  1. Hughes and Santana will be here, live with it. Duffy is making a case for a starting role, leaving the Twins with a very unusual and pleasant dilemma, too much starting pitching. I would still eat money to rid us of the Nolasco contract and go with Hughes, Santana, Milone, May and Duffey to start next year or leave May in the pen as your 8th inning guy and have Berrios be another starter.
  2. I would do the deal in a heartbeat, before other agents and players start getting to him. If you go to an average of $12 million a year it could still (and probably will) be a bargain.
  3. Twins are close. I see some bullpen signings with many of this years pen being gone. Expect they may try and sell one of their pitchers on a long term contract and bring up Berrios. Twins have too many starters and moving one of them will not be a bad thing.
  4. Bottom line to the problem is that the bullpen guys with stuff were starting in AA and expected to be here by now. This has not happened, and will not happen this year. Year has been a surprise and I am happy to be watching meaningful games at this time. If it falls apart, there will be one last high draft pick next June(Twins are only about 5-6 games from the worst record in the American league). Also best minor league pitchers will be a year closer to being here. TR expected to have at least one of the bullpen guys be here by now(overevaluation, yes, big error, no). Calm down and give it another year. Other issue is that other teams know the Twins system and are asking for guys that would be in their teams top 10. Ryan may have to pull one big trade, but looks like the time is this winter. Would expect a catcher to be teams biggest need. And yes Twins may have to eat money to get some of the bad contracts off the books.
  5. It would have to be a worse contract than that.
  6. Depends on the cost and if any have a tag on them. Would rather have younger than older. Bullpen and catcher needs to be addressed in the offseason. Would also like to see in September if any of the Twins relievers in Chattanooga are ready for the big time.
  7. I tend to be more tolerant because I see the ups and downs of people. Everyone has bad days and weeks. To quote the person who was the best player in the world in my hobby for 20-30 years "The good players play bad and the bad players play worse"
  8. You missed the sarcasm in the prior post. All I was pointing out was how fickle these posters are. And how players go up; and down during a season. All I was pointing out also was that by this logic Twins would need 2 closers, so if one went bad you could use the other one.
  9. I suppose by this logic we should DFA Perkins After 4 homeruns in 4 outings. Relief pitchers have their ups and downs during the season. Boyer has just had a longer one than most
  10. Thanks for saying this. May probably will turn into the 8th inning guy we were hoping for with Meyers.
  11. You are also assuming some of these players do not get old. Also Price and others are rentals, so Toronto gave up quite a bit for about a 2-3 year window. Good shot given the rest of the division, but could backfire in a few years. And yes Batista and others only have a few years left.
  12. Toronto figures with Yankee's pitching problems, they are likely to catch NY. Catching the Twins rates to be a small victory.
  13. Looks to me like 2 lottery tickets for a 7th to 8th inning guy. Probably will work, Hu looks like a #4 or 5 starter if he makes it. Other guy is a lottery ticket. Calm down. Only proves 1 thing. Those who hate TR think its a bad trade, those who like TR say wait and see
  14. Lots of things could go down in the next couple of hours. See what the Twins do, would not be happy if nothing happens, but that could be the case. Twins have 2 negatives going. 1. No GM wants to be looked at as being fleeced by TR(and several have) 2. Twins are regarded as having a great farm system, so other GMs expect more or the same number prospect as from a weaker organization. Twins may have over played their hand and overvalued their prospects.
  15. According to MLBtraderumors.com Twins are looking for controllable arms, not rentals. Given the bullpen situation, I can see why. Twins may or may not make a one game playoff, but to play meaningful games in August and hopefully September is worthwhile. Find the needed pieces(catcher and bullpen) in the offseason) and do not overpay with prospects now.
  16. Relief pitchers will only need minor prospects. Major talent needs more.
  17. Gomez is a big upgrade over Rosario. The rest is just sending extra prospects to snag Gomez(need to sign to extension as part of the deal)
  18. Maybe the Twins should offer Meyer, Rosario and Arcia for Gomez(assuming we can sign him to an extension)
  19. Depth is much better than most other systems. Next year will tell. Kepler should finish the outfield and Twins still have a number of pitching prospects just further away. They need to move some (Rogers, Duffy) to the bullpen to help. Others are wait and see. Longer term prospect A+ and lower are hard to project, but some will help. It is more wait and see.
  20. Just a note, which seems to be taking hold. 32-33 is the new 36. After the steroid era things are returning to normal and your average major league(no superstar) is done between 32-34. Taking on players over 30 is dicey. Pitchers are a different sort, but this is close to true. Some pitchers with better stuff and pinpoint control will be very good longer. I hope we will see 1-2 new relievers in here this week, but don't want to give top level prospects for them. Younger players with control are more important as Twins window is coming in the next 6 years. A bad trade could haunt us for a long time.
  21. Cueto is the KC "all in" move and with the chance they have it looks right for them. Price was hign, but ace types do not come all that often and he is their first option for an ace. It will probably hurt KC 2-3 years down the road, but you only get so many chances to win the big one, and with their core hitting FA in 2-3 years the time is now.
  22. Would trade for a bullpen arm or 3 depending on price, Clippard, O'Day, Ziegler among others, Chapman can be had, but would probably be too expensive. Expect Arcia to be main trade bait, Twins have enough outfielders to replace him. Catcher needs to be filled, but may have to wait for other options this offseason. Do not mind trading Polanco, he projects more as a 2nd baseman.
  23. Problem with trading Perkins is the message it sends. You have issues signing players you want to keep and the Twins then become a team that needs to overpay to hang onto young talent and most agents just have their clients play out the string and sign elsewhere after 6 years or the players contract is up.
  24. Pitching game is all about numbers. Like the Twins numbers at this time and agree that some of these young pitchers will be here in 2-3 years. A couple or more have already had TJ surgery, so will see how they come back and which ones will dominate at AA and AAA in the next couple of years.
  25. Kenny Vargas for one, no easy DH with Sano and Arcia now in front of him. Levi Micheal for another. Oliveros is another. Rest are too far away of the top prospects to count at this time.
