  1. Not yet but it appears that they expect to pay it out to him since they haven’t wasted that amount on resigning Gallo.
  2. There are a couple FO’s that could/would have gotten cute and skipped over Jenkins at 5.
  3. This year will be telling if he can get the 21-24yo advanced hitters to bite. He gets in their head and messes up their timing, he might get a fast track to the show.
  4. I believe our pitching staff has been ranked as #4 in WAR in all of MLB. Do power rankings mean much before any games have been played?
  5. I don’t understand the lack of respect for our starting 5 plus disco. We are going to get starts from probably 8 different guys and none of them have massive concerns. Issues yes, but there are enough arms to cover 950 innings and get above average results! That means we win games with pitching especially considering that our bullpen could be lights out and shut down any rally. We do need to figure out playoff stuff but we got awhile until then. There are always guys that step up and take on a bigger role. There will be some that regress. If mgmnt can figure out that the guys that are hot, play more innings. We will win the central easy. Again.
  6. They upgrade in CF and SS substantially if those two guys produce equivalent to their contracts. 1st base has been upgraded over gallo ‘23. Remember ‘23 opened up with big questions at SP. at this point we may not beat ‘23 but we have more viable options to start with. Our bullpen has been upgraded. Hands down. Much better.
  7. Since his parents are both top notch athletes, he has pedigree. If he can get picky about the strike zone, reduce the K rate and hit a breaking ball, the sky is the limit because the defensive home will find him.
  8. I don’t think he gets an extension. He might have a monster year in which case he will turn down the QO offer and sign elsewhere for 3 yr 60M with a 4/5 yr option. Twins move on to Erod/Rosario ‘25, Jenkins/GG ‘26. Pohlands homegrown moneyball team.
  9. Kep is worth alot and more to us because no one will want to give up his real worth ($18M.) 2.5-3.WAR The FO wont give up that kind of WAR value/salary and other teams wont over pay. Kep likely stays, has an allstar year and gets a QO offer and turns it down.
  10. This reminds me of the black knight in monty python losing his arms…. The twins are just stock piling arms. It sounds like the banko court ruling may not happen until as late as June so don’t expect a blockbuster deal any time soon.
  11. Is there any question about the availability of the 8-9 guys that will likely start games in ‘24. Just saying 9 guys means that wear and tear will obviously happen but if its a day off here and there, the twins will be just fine throughout the first 162. The first 6 guys, will get their 130-190 innings. I like the idea of Festa or SWR or both taking on a bigger role later in the season. It’s always a possibility that someone steps up and becomes a true #2 but in reality, we know what we have and we don’t have that guy yet.
  12. Its a long time until October and a lot will have to go wrong for the twins to not be in the thick of the playoffs. Im not sure if ownership is all in yet to make the investment in a complete team. They may just continue to lag behind teams like Baltimore that act on their open window. I hear that Montgomery wants to return to Texas but MN is just a few miles north and has better lakes. Someone convince him to sign a decent 4 yr contract with us please!
  13. @chpettit19 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👀
  14. Burnes is making $15M in ‘24. Even the Pohlads could afford him.
  15. I believe our ‘23 MLB roster was ranked #6 after the season and will likely be top 10 entering ‘24.
  16. Just imagine how good we can be if everyone is healthy for a vast majority of ‘24. We have depth like ‘23, healthy vets, young developing stars and talented prospects on the way. Im a fan of the roster changes in the last week!
  17. Several great points. I will add that the 2nd half of ‘23 had better hitting than the first half when the young guys got more opportunities. Thats a trend that the FO is leaning on to continue.
  18. Im going to reserve judgement until the end of ‘24. There are quality parts to the trade but could be overshadowed by failure to launch a championship run.
  19. It seems like a plausible way to replace the best onfield asset of Polanco. His bat and possible platoon at 1B. If Santana flames out tho, it will only be looked at as wasting half of what we did on Gallo.
  20. Don’t leave out the $8M cash to pay 2/3 of a salary and 5M in salary room to go sign Santana who immediately replaces Polancos bat.
  21. So, if CS would have been signed by Seattle a month ago for $5M and came to us via the trade, what would people think of the trade because that is essentially what happened.
  22. When young guys go to instructs, is there a large amount of data that is cataloged on every pitch a guy like Soto would throw? I picture him in a lab with a coach 🥼interpreting the data to refine delivery and build the skills to add a pitch and sequence the whole arsenal. I would imagine the whole process means more than a game situation where he threw 63 pitches got 7Ks, 3 pop outs, 4 ground balls. Gave up 2 singles and a double…. Hard data probably means more than game experience at this point?
