    Aren't they saying that Kirilloff is just 1B now? I don't think moving him back to the outfield is part of any plan at this point?

    Thank you for bringing back the memory of that Mauer play. I remember it fondly too. :) I can't say I was really sad about not having Lugo. I think he has decent stuff, but he is 34 and last year he threw the most innings of his career in a season BY FAR (by almost 50 innings.) I hope he does well with the Royals. I want us to aim a step above for this offseason. Lee, I think, lands in a really good spot with the Giants. He certainly will be interesting to follow.

    I do agree, I wouldn’t sell him for a minimal return. I do think both Polanco and Kepler have actual trade value right now that can help in 2024. That would be my goal for either of them in a trade, to get something back that would help for 2024

    I just, imagine writing this article any time from like 2020 through about June of 2023. I know he was great the 2nd half of 2023, but I’m almost in the camp of, be grateful he was good so he actually has trade value now. 97% of us wanted him dfa’d mid season, so that he has value now isn’t a bad thing

    I also REALLY like how the pitching pipeline is looking. Wichita is going to be stacked starting in 2024, and some of that will matriculate up to St. Paul as the year goes on. I just want to make a deal for someone who can step in early in the 2024 mlb regular season rotation.

    Through June 2023 Joe Ryan 96 2/3 innings, 79 hits, 105 k's, 15 walks, era of 3.44, FIP of 3.36 Sonny Gray 87 2/3 innings, 80 hits, 89 k's, 33 walks, era of 2.67, FIP of 2.80. Pablo Lopez 102 innings, 87 hits, 126 k's, 30 walks, era of 4.24, FIP of 3.37 Gray threw the least amount of innings of the 3, and his homerun rate (I'd argue) was unsustainable, but all 3 were legit at that point. Ryan injured himself and tried to pitch through it to poor results, but his FIP was every bit as good as Lopez at that time. Ryan's homerun rate is still closer to league average. Gray's homerun rate in 2023 is unsustainable/lucky ongoing, or at least that's what I'd argue.

    When healthy, through the end of June, Ryan was pitching every bit as well as Lopez or Gray. His fastball/splitter combo is pretty elite.

    I’d imagine Hoskins gets a 1 year deal, or a 1 year deal with an option. Things like that work itself out

    I don’t know that I see both in the same trade either. But Kepler in one trade, and Polanco, or Polanco with prospect(s) makes sense to me

    I mean, maybe. Their websites certainly like the idea of Polanco and Kepler for 2024.

    I don't at all think Hoskins would displace a healthy Kirilloff. Hoskins, to me, would be replacing the at bats that Solano had in 2023. If Kirilloff is healthy, he would be in the lineup, and probably at 1B. Hoskins could play 1B (against tough lefties for sure) as well as DH, but they could plop him in LF occasionally too. And of course, IF Kirilloff is not healthy at points, then we have very good insurance right?

    His walk rate offsets that, and he is cheap for a number of years. It's just a thought. He has power and he takes walks, as well as has a huge arm in the outfield. I certainly take him over any of the players they traded away for 2024.

    I don't know. If you pair Polanco with a prospect or two (say, David Festa and someone else) then the difference is only adding 4 million right? I'd imagine another of Farmer or Kepler will be traded, which will also lower the payroll. I don't see Hoskins getting 20 million per year, more like 14-16 in 2024. Anyway, that's not CRAZY, and certainly would fall in line with what we are all guessing would be the drop in their payroll right?

    100% in favor of adding Burnes somehow. And I do think a healthy Kirilloff (with help, maybe that's a healthy Miranda and/or another outside addition like Rhys Hoskins) can cover 1B. Buxton being health-ish feels like a pipedream, but if he is, then that solves that too right?

    We will see if he ever gets to that level again. I have a hard time saying 2024 Gray will pitch to the level of 2023 Gray. Not betting against it, I just don’t know that I see it is all

    Ryan was injured and tried to fight through it in 2023. He should be fine, and certainly has been durable. He and Pablo are the two guys right now who clearly have the trust to go a 3rd time through the order. Ober was great last year, and I hope he can take a next step. I hope he can get to the point that 3rd time through the order can be his. We will see. Paddack, yes, he has had a couple of tommy John’s, but he has a year removed now and showed he is fully healthy 2 months ago. I won’t argue about Varland in the rotation or not. He will be on the pitching staff, but he certainly hasn’t show durability issues. I want someone coming in who is coming off a healthy year, who won’t be on an innings limit, and will be ok with going a 3rd time through the order

    I don’t think a playoff level start equals a mid rotation starter. that said; I do think the Twins coaching staff, their infrastructure if you will, along with their defense, can bring a guy in now who some would believe is a mid rotation guy, and get him to the point that he is a playoff game level starter. For example, Sonny Gray, Kenta Maeda, Jake Odorizzi, Michael Pineda, Pablo Lopez, Joe Ryan. I still think Tyler Mahle was in that mold. I’d still love to bring him back this offseason.

    I think Woo has all of the stuff and command that he can be a high level guy. I don’t know if he is that December 2023, but I think he could show that by June 2024.

    I agree with all of this, and I think the focus should be to acquire a starter (instead of labels of 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5) go with, would you be comfortable with that starter starting a playoff game or not? I guess that's my baseline for what they need to do. I am comfortable with Ryan and Ober in that role, behind Lopez. IF Paddack looks anything like he did in October, I might actually put him ahead of Ryan or Ober. That said, I want to get someone who can be a step ahead of them. And I really like those 3. Doesn't have to be a #2 or #3. I just want to feel confident at playoff time that the starters we have are playoff caliber.

    And I think they will get to 7 by opening day. I fully expect a good trade for a starter, and I expect 1-2 minor league signings that would start in the rotation in St. Paul. Along with Festa and Woods Richardson and others who will probably make appearances over the course of the year. But yeah... Lopez, Ryan, Ober, Paddack and who they trade for (who they trade for, I'm hoping, could be a step above Ryan/Ober.) Then St. Paul will have Festa, Winder, Woods Richardson and I'd imagine at least 2 other additions. Incentive laden minor league contracts. Off the top of my head, think of it like Eric Lauer (formerly of the Brewers and Padres) and Brad Keller (formerly of the Royals.) But maybe they instead trade for a guy to have at AAA too? I fully expect arms to be added this offseason, and St. Paul to have a lot of depth that is of mlb quality. Does that help?

    Jeffers is a good thought, with 3 years control remaining. I would love to get him to sign a 5 year deal. What are you thinking with Duran? The Twins have 4 more years team control, so I’d want at least 6 years. I could see both happening though. Good point.
