He also is only 23, and was VERY good the 2nd half of 2023. I have to think, someone like him, who was drafted and put in AA VERY quickly after being traded from the Mets to the Blue Jays, to then deal with the covid season only to then get on a 3rd team a year and a half later, if he is someone who is FINALLY having some consistency with coaching and see if that has helped. I'm not saying he is a SURE thing. But I do think he is close to truly earning a shot. I know he debuted last year, and if his stuff+ numbers are good AND he has added a tick or two to his fastball, then we may have something here. Seeing how he looks this spring will go a long ways.

I'd absolutely take Burnes over Gray, but you are right, maybe it is subjective to rank in this way.

Burnes best year, by far, was 2021. His strikeouts per game, and fastball velocity, have dipped a little bit since then. I think Milwaukee's development/organization are outstanding. He clearly isn't thrilled with how they treated him last year in the arbitration process. Maybe there is a way that the Twins could work with him and get his velocity bumped up just a smidge during his contract year? I'm probably being naive in still thinking he is available. But there is definitely a top of the rotation arm in there, even if he isn't what 2021 brought.

My expectation is they add a playoff level starter to the rotation. That would probably make SWR 7th, so that's what I'm going with.

That works for me, and it tracks with what they've done before. They pivoted after not getting Zach Wheeler and brought in Josh Donaldson. I'd imagine they have a few options and know what the cost will be and are just waiting. IF one of the moves they are waiting on doesn't work out, contingency plans are important too. Something will happen, I'm more certain than ever.

I'd love that too. Julien is going to be a great player, I agree. I more just meant, getting a pitcher the caliber of Burnes is going to hurt. That's all.

I'd be interested in knowing what Milwaukee would be open to trading him for. That's all. If they would take what you listed out, I'd do that too.

Burnes is a top of the rotation type ace. There truly aren't that many guys like him in mlb. How many pitchers would you truly rate above him in terms of aces? 5 maybe?

I can see the thinking, based on other moves that the team has made in the past. For me, getting someone similar to Pablo (maybe an extra year of team control, probably another tier to get to) would be someone like Mitch Keller or Dylan Cease. I could very much be swayed into trying for Nestor Cortes as well, and he MIGHT be available if the Yankees do end up signing someone like Blake Snell. That said, I'd be all over adding Burnes for 2024 if he is attainable. Is there someone more in that range that you like?

I could see extensions for a number of young guys if they are open to it. Julien comes to mind, as does Lewis and possibly Duran.

If Milwaukee were to trade someone like Burnes, what do you think they would actually listen on?

To each their own. Id prefer a minor league signing, like Jake Odorizzi, to add depth compared to Clevinger. And I am a fan of SWR

I like the idea of SWR being our 7th starter a lot more than Clevinger being a part of the rotation

If I had to vote/guess today, I could absolutely see Canterino and Staumont playing major parts. The rest are all more hope to me (not that Canterino and Staumont aren’t). If any of the others contribute, great! But I could see most of them in another organization at some point too

I love Julien. But getting a pitcher like Burnes would arguably give the Twins the best rotation in the American League, no? You take that opportunity once in a while right? Not saying I want to get rid of Julien. But if the twins can get Burnes, you do it

I like Hoskins too. I can’t say I hate missing out on Stroman. His 2nd half from last year scares me a bit. Always liked him though

I’d be open to Montgomery too, it just seems that the trade route is the way they are headed. And if it isn’t Burnes, they will get something done. The only part that sucks is that, as a fan, we are all so used to what the offseason used to be like even 5 years ago, so it FEELS like they have run out of time already. That just isn’t the case.
