    I think they all will get innings this year. You want to play for 9 starters at minimum through a year, and probably will use 11. The more good pitching, the better

    I’ll take that bet and say that a starting pitcher addition, one that would comfortably start a playoff game, will 100% be added before the season. This front office, for everything that has happened, has always been transparent to the point that they have done what they say they will. 2019 was Odorizzi. 2020 was Maeda, 2022 was Gray and Correa, 2023 was Lopez and Correa a 2nd time. 2021 didn’t work out that way but they still signed Donaldson. When they say their goal and plan for this offseason is to add a high impact starting pitcher, I believe them. That is more than what a minor league signing constitutes.

    That’s exactly why I can’t get mad about the post trade results though. Have to go with what you have at the time. I’m glad we have a front office that adds talent. They don’t have the power to see into the future (I don’t think) so why get mad about the Mahle and Lopez trades when the process to acquire them at the time was solid. This is certainly better than always hoarding prospects and never making deals to try to better yourselves, right?

    New and shiny are always fun. But these guys are both very good in their own right :)

    I still do that Mahle trade every single time. But yeah, they need more innings at minimum added to the rotation to start the year. Once they add, we will all quibble on how good that player is. I do like the potential of SWR, I will add, but still.

    Doing nothing isn’t really an option though. They’ve said it before too, if the initial path of what they hoped for isn’t there, they can pivot. Lots of ways to build a baseball team. For example, when Zach Wheeler went with the Phillies, the Twins at that time pivoted to Josh Donaldson. It happens. Obviously he wasn’t great here, but it was still a big move at the time. I just, Falvey has never been one to do nothing. I expect a playoff level starter. But even with that, they still do arguably have a few too many position players for spots right now. I guess all I am trying to say is, nothing is something that won’t happen.

    If Buxton is healthy and Martin is ready, you have cf covered. If Miranda’s shoulder is back, you have a good platoon with Kirilloff at 1b no? They do need to trade for a playoff level starter. I believe they will.

    Lewis is healthy and comfortable at 3b. I want him to be up and in the majors all year. No reason to move him. I don’t love Julien’s defense. Frankly I’d throw him out in left or at 1b or even keep him at dh to make room for Lee. I like Montgomery. I LOVE Luzardo.

    Have to say, with how they revived Carlos Rodon's career, the Giants are about the only team that I could see making a move like this work. But yeah, I wouldn't exactly bet on it working out great either. We'll see.

    Imagine thinking that losing Eduardo Rodriguez and bringing in Jack Flaherty and Kenta Maeda jumps your team up and above to the top of a division. And KC, seriously?

    That is a good point. Gordon has played CF and LF. Martin's experience really points a LOT to CF usage (I know he can play in the corners too.) But you are right, with a 26 man roster, there isn't room for all 3.

    Yeah, I would put him over Gordon with what he brings, at minimum. He makes contact, he gets on base, he doesn't strike out, he is athletic and can play CF and 2B (Gordon is only a left fielder, right?) and he is REALLY good at stealing bases.

    I keep coming back to; the things that Austin Martin can do will really benefit the team. I don't see a good reason why he isn't on the team opening day

    The Twins transaction page says they signed catcher Matthew Clayton to a minor league deal and assigned him to Fort Myers. As far as I can tell, he played college ball at the University of Nevada Reno, and played in the independent Pioneer league this past season.     Wichita is going to be REALLY fun to watch this year. No doubt. I truly don't know a TON about Morris or Matthews either. Is there a 2nd part of the article coming with a breakdown on their stuff? Thanks Jamie!

    I'm kind of with you on the expectations. It's hard to count on a guy being a 10 year regular, with some all star appearances possibly sprinkled in, and not be excited about that. I guess that's what I see, generally. Glad we have him too.

    I mean, betting on the under for any prospect is the safe bet, right? I don't know that he will ever be a 7 win type player. But I can totally see him fairly easily bringing at least what Polanco brought in good years, probably with more pop. The kind of guy you want in a lineup.

    He only had about 100 plate appearances against lefties last year in the minors. That's not a HUGE sample, but you are right. He does need more at bats against left handed pitching ongoing to show a bigger picture. I don't see any way he comes up and is JUST a platoon option.

    Agreed, no doubt. I think he shows a LOT in spring training, and I could see him being up VERY EARLY. He is very good, and I'm excited to have him in the lineup. If he is hitting .160 after the first month of him being up (whenever that is) he'll go down. I just don't expect his bat to perform that way.
