  1. I know Bob Nightengale wrote this, so I definitely take it with a grain of salt. That said, I wouldn't HATE the idea of preparing for Buxton (if healthy) to move to a corner outfield spot. Maybe that's even in 2024. The first part of that quote wrote how the Twins plan to use their position player depth to acquire pitching (also, water is wet) but if Buxton is moving to right field (for example) that makes sense. Longer term, Walker Jenkins will look really good in center field as well, right?
  2. Trading makes the most sense in my opinion, and it’s certainly something the front office has a lot of experience with
  3. Cue December 12th, when the Twins haven't made any noteworthy deals, and many commenters (both here and on social media) complaining how the offseason is a wash and they NEVER do anything to improve the team. Falvine should absolutely be fired for being Pohlad pocket protectors at that point am I right? :)
  4. Came here to throw out another name who MIGHT be available; Vlad Guerrero Jr. I don't know if Toronto would trade him, and I also don't know if he will ever be a superstar, but he is younger than all of the guys you listed and is starting to get expensive (relative to his production) in arbitration. Would be team controlled through 2025 (his age 25 and 26 seasons.) Curious if this would interest anyone, and also what it could take to acquire him IF he were available.
  5. Agreed in the sense that buying him out and just moving on is not an option. Not at all. If they do actually get real value for him, then I can get behind that.
  6. I'm as excited for Lee as any prospect the Twins have had in many years. But by no means am I giving away Polanco. Unless you are 100% certain that Lee can outproduce Polanco even on opening day, then there is no rush to have to make a change this offseason right? I mean, if you get a GREAT offer for Polanco via trade, then you take it (as you would for any player.) But buying out Polanco, that should not be ANY part of the thought process for a team that wants to win.
  7. Yes, his stuff plays up better in the bullpen than in the rotation. Excited to see how it translates to 2024 ongoing.
  8. If we are talking potential minor league contract options, I'd prefer Brad Keller, formerly of KC. He is coming off injury, but he is just 28. His stuff was always pretty decent. Otherwise, a trade for Mitch Keller would be at or near the top of any list I was going to make. And I THINK Varland is going fully to the pen, which I am also ok with. His stuff REALLY plays up there.
  9. I'm surprised you didn't list Kyle Gibson, or even Mitch Garver (as a dh/3rd catcher?) But this is a fun talker :)
  10. I've always really felt Keller could be a great change of scenery type, and I forget how young he is. I'm surprised you didn't mention someone like Michael Kopech. Not certain the White Sox move on, but his stuff is super intriguing as well with good coaching around him. Very much same with Lucas Giolito and Frankie Montas. Otherwise, I do agree that a focus should be on bringing in at least one starter who is healthy and we can anticipate can give 160+ innings. I don't know if that means via trade or free agency, but the need is there. I am enthused on the young pitching that will be at AA and AAA to start next year, but I'd prefer to have the rotation be Lopez/Ryan/Ober/Paddack and an outside addition without HAVING to use the depth right away. I'm firmly in the camp that has Varland in the bullpen with his stuff playing up.
  11. Someone's got to watch out for how to save all those pretty pennies. It's funny though that it wasn't anyone being called Pohlad pocket protectors :)
  12. And then what happened? :)
  13. I fully expect a starting pitcher addition, probably via trade, this offseason. Can never have too much pitching, right?
  14. 100% they pick up the option. No doubt in my mind. And frankly I think he is the best option for 2b (over Julien at least) up until a real decision has to be made with Brooks Lee. But Polanco can play, he is a really solid hitter and his defense is good. Worry a bit about his knees, but when he is right, he is really good.
  15. I don't see them selling low on him. He has options, and frankly, IF his shoulder is healthy, he can certainly take on the Solano role (in terms of playing time and which positions to cover.) I hope his shoulder is right, because he has a good bat that will play if his shoulder is healthy.
  16. Ryan should start one of the first 3 games if he is healthy, probably game 3 starter. Just my opinion.
  17. If he is one of their best 9 hitters, I absolutely say bring him up. HAVE to have your best lineup healthy and ready to go come playoff time. He wouldn't have to be called up tomorrow, but in September, I love this idea.
  18. Cart. Horse. Something of that nature :)
  19. I'm surprised you didn't mention Austin Martin. Otherwise it's a good list.
  20. Jenkins also stole 2nd and 3rd after his single. Thought that was cool.
  21. I never heard him saying that at all.
  22. What if, and hear me out, Royce Lewis is a right handed hitting outfielder next year? Also, to just add to the point of this thread; I am very happy Kepler is playing so well lately. It's fun to see.
  23. Imagine saying no to this. Ugh. Yes, the contract was worth it and I am glad we all got to watch Mauer stay a Twin for his career.
