  1. Lopez has pitched like a # 1 in a number of big moments. He is a # 1. Paddack was a highly regarded prospect that just may be finding himself after numerous setbacks. He could be a # 2 - and with Ryan and Ober being more than solid the Twins have 4/5 of a rotation. Possibly, they could complete it internally with a number of decent prospects in the system, but I lean towards a solid vet free agent - why. not bring back Maeda if affordable? Twins have done a great job building a sound rotation that could hold up for a few years.
  2. Enjoyed the season and especially the emergence and development of some talented young players who knowing there are almost no sure things, hopefully will continue to progress. I have been a Twins fan since 1966, and yes its been a long stretch without a World Series, but I see the WS as possible with a few key additions and the returning core, which have some excellent pieces Lopez, Duran, Correa, Lewis, Jeffers etc. The spirit, will and grit were there for our Twins, but in the end the Astros are a proven winner and a tough out for sure. Easier said than done, but the Twins need to add a true middle of the order bat, a legit SP and get Buxton back in the OF for at least 80-100 games. I look forward to sharing the off-season and all the back and forth with the Twins Daily Community. Win Twins!
  3. I get the disappointment with the loss, but perspective helps. The Twins knocked out the Blue Jays and are still in the series with the Astros. The same Twins team that many totally discounted not so long ago because they play in the weak AL Central and would have no chance in the playoffs if they even made it to the postseason. My take: this Twins team is certainly capable of winning today and Friday.
  4. Pablo Lopez's performance given the circumstances ranks in the same discussion with the greatest Twins pitching efforts in the postseason all-time. Absolutely dominating against one of the elite lineups in MLB.
  5. Buxton is capable of hitting we assume? So is Stevenson's speed and defense more likely to be a factor than Buck pinch hitting/batting? I am not convinced that is the case. Plus, Buxton is a team leader and a long term asset of some value to the Twins future. I don't think you can really say that about Stevenson.
  6. Correa is certainly worth what the Twins are paying him given the market for top-end SS. I don't quite understand all the angst about his salary - the Twins paying big money for a player is a positive step especially given the franchise's track record of let's be gentle, frugality. He has delivered leadership, a rock-solid competitive mindset and great attitude despite a sub-par year at the plate partly due to injury. He also seems committed to leading the Twins to a championship. I think that the Twins could well be contenders for a good stretch and Correa will be in the middle of all that.
  7. The Twins out-competed a talented Blue Jays team. That takes heart and grit, which was evident in a number of big moments over the two, tense, hard-fought games.
  8. Interesting. Maeda does have a good track record of pitching out of the bullpen in the postseason. His recent comments about the possibility were team-need centered so this seems like a solid move.
  9. By my quick count this is the 13th division title for the Twins since the playoff era began in 1969. (50+ seasons) So as a fan, I always try to really enjoy these moments. Win Twins!
  10. 26 assuming Stewart and Paddack pitch in a MLB game or two before season concludes. And Buxton, Correa and Lewis are all good to go.) PITCHERS (11) Gray, Lopez, Maeda, Ryan, Duran, Jax, Stewart, Paddack, Theilbar, Pagan, Funderburk POSITION PLAYERS (15) Kirilloff, Julien, Correa, Lewis, Polanco, Farmer, Castro, Wallner, Taylor, Kepler, Stephenson, Buxton, Jeffers, Vasquez, Solano GM 1 Gray GM 2 Lopez GM 3 Maeda (If needed) Ryan available if a SP falters early in a game.
  11. Nice article. Most Twins fans held and still hold Arraez in high regard. But I think we can probably conclude something similar about Pablo Lopez.
  12. This team more and more is finding ways to stay in games and win many of them. Their collective confidence is growing. Self-belief is a powerful asset.
  13. Really nice article - speaks to the strong reasons for optimism for the present and next 5+ years if things progress as is suggested.
  14. Early or not everyone has to concede that Lewis has the traits of a special player.
  15. Bullpen issues continue. If the Twins can secure a RP on waivers and if Stewart returns to the form of pre-injury perhaps the pen can still be solid enough for the postseason?
  16. If the Twins can add a RP like Moore at this point they have to do it. Makes up for standing still at the trade deadline in a way.
  17. Strong series win for the Twins. Others have suggested, and I agree that Martin should be considered for the MLB roster. He provides a RH bat and strong positional flexibility. Luplow had a few nice games, but seems that Martin is a better option. Buxton's return complcates the timing, but Martin seems ready to help.
  18. In a season with so many ups and downs the ups like tonight's win seem all the more enjoyable.
  19. Lopez is proving to be a good addition now and likely for a number of seasons. He is solid.
  20. The inconsistency of the current Twins bullpen is exactly why they should have added another BP arm at the deadline. The cost wouldn't be great for a pretty good RP. This was a recognized issue at the time. Now. the Twins are stuck with internal options which are at best shaky.
  21. Lee's readiness for MLB may still be in development. But players with his tools and approach sometimes jump directly to MLB from AA. The 30 or so AB's at AAA are not enough to scuttle the possibility. The Twins need offense especially dudes who can put the ball in play consistently.
  22. It was this sort of thinking that propelled anxiety with Arraez. Where do the Twins play him? The Marlins have played him at 2B regularly - something the Twins wouldn't do. (Yes, Polanco was the 2B for some of Arraez's time here.) When a rookie hits and shows the plate discipline such as Julien - you do the most obvious thing; You work with him to get better at his most logical position. The Twins clearly have thought about this - that is why Julien played a lot of 2B in the minors. Getting Lewis back and Lee in the future are total positives even though they create "Who's on first?" type questions. Having surplus talent isn't a bad thing - ever.
