  1. This FO has a "love affair" with Cave that has been disasterous through the years. Like any disasterous "love affair" it keeps us from finding and losing (ex. Baddoo & Wade) more desirable suiters, and the best way to solve this mess is a clean cut. This FO has failed in this aspect again by not making a clean cut this offseason with Cave. Now they left the door wide open for this temptation to resume in this disasterous relationship that leaves us wanting in CF back up. Cave, Garlick and Rooker are terrible as 4th OFs. If Celestino isn't ready (which is fine) quit fooling around! go out and find a viable short term MLB CF sub, FINALLY! If they are serious about winning, this is the absolute move to make. Otherwise it's all noise.
  2. Why is Cave still around and playing CF yet!? When will they wake up? Cave isn't a CF, can him and get a for real CF to back up Buxton!
  3. I agree w/ you Mike that we can't let this FO off of the hook. They have a very hard time to commit and go for it, it's in their nature to punt. I think they wanted to trade Buxton from the start until they were pressured to sign him. Seem like they only do the right thing only when pressured. But your attitude toward Bundy & Archer, frankly stinks. We have only Gray that can give us regularily 5+ innings throughout the season and he is very doubtful that he can starting the season. That leaves us with openers and potentially strong long relief corp that can rotate young pitchers which we can effeciently evalute. I'm not a fan of Bundy, I think he has a low ceiling and floor, I'm very different with Archer which has a very high ceiling. But if they are used correctly they can man a very successful pitching corp. If they blow up the whole system blows up, that will put a lot of extra pressure on the young inexperienced pitchers & prospect, which some may never recover. That will hurt not only Bundy & Archer but the team and set back whole pitching pipeline which is already behind. So if you want our prospects to succeeed you better cheer for both Bundy and Archer.
  4. Nice analyst Ted, tough choice. My choice is if possible is to send Sanchez down to work on his catching and hitting. Arraez is my regular 3B/DH and #1 Godoy is my back up catcher. #2 Gordon's glove and versatility is our safety net, #3&4 , I'd give Miranda and Larnach a chance to prove that they belong here until they prove otherwise. Rooker is a butcher in the OF, him being RH not enough. Celestino is my 1st call up. Sanchez needs a lot of help but who knows he regains and improve on his past form.
  5. I suggested also back when Rosario was in LF to switch with Kepler. I posted that question to Seth, he mentioned that Kepler had stated that LF was his best position and that Rosario had played some RF when he was coming up. After Kepler came up they never made that switch, maybe too late now? LF seems a little shaky, our best option right now is Kiriloff but he's better off at 1B. I suggested to bolster our OF by approaching TB with a trade for either CFs last year arbritration Margot or salary dump Kiermaier. TB has a nice crop of CFers coming up & they need power bats, they might be interested in a Rooker/ Margot or Sano/ Kiermaier trade, seems like a win/win to me. Playing Martin at SS seems like waste of time, when the jury says he won't stick at SS and he's needed in the OF especially CF. It looks to me that they purposely have the OF so bad to have an excuse to bring back Cave.
  6. Thanks Nick for your work. We've got the best plan A in Buxton in the whole MLB at CF for many years. But we've got the worst plan B which would be plan F on many teams in Cave. I give an A to Gordon for effort but still he's no CFer. Here's a novel idea if we actually get and use a viable MLB CFer to sub CF. Here's to hope that Buxton stays healthy, not targeted or needs rest. Until Celestino, Martin or Lewis is able step up and man the position. Why does this FO constantly take these stupid odds?
  7. This acquition of Correa only enhances Lewis future due to his mentorship and taking off the pressure of having to right away step up and produce. Now he can progress on his own time. I agree with Correa that Lewis is a special talent, not only the tangible 5 tool talents but also the intangible talents he has to succeed. Right now we pretty shallow in depth behind the starting key positions SS, CF and catching. We need Lewis, Martin, Celestino and Godoy to add to the quality MLB ready depth and we shouldn't even think about trading them but look at ways to increase our depth there. We have an over abundance at the corner fielders and 2B, that's where we need look to trade from. Even at pitching we could look at other than.
  8. The 1st thing I'd have done this off-season is to drop Cave and get the best CF back up available and quit fooling around. We really need a 4th OF that can actually play CF Buxton and Kepler are elite and Kiriloff is solid enough but Rooker and Garlick are sub par gloves plus Larnach, Martin and Celestino should see more time in AAA. Until Martin or Celestino are ready to step up we still have a chasm at CF back up to give Buxton time to rest. Please don't even think Cave. We are still finding ourselves in a delemna that was a big part of our demise last year. Last year I hated the addition of Happ and Shoemaker, this year I like the addition of Gray and Archer, a step in the right direction. Hoping that Gray can give us at least 5 quality innings but to begin with the season he'd be lucky to give us 4. Even more importance to begin the season with this rotation, Id like to have a 6 strong long relief corp, Smeltzer, Duran, Jax, Alcala, Cotton and Winder, With a strong long relief corp we keep everyone healthy and fresh when post seson come around. INF is still our strong suit although being down graded at 3B and catching. Hoping Correa can stay healthy and Lewis, Martin, Celestino and Godoy step up and fill much needed back up roles at the premium positions CF, SS and catching. Our line up is where we shine IMO debatably the best. #1 Buxton #2 Correa #3 Polanco #4 Kiriloff #5 Arraez #6 Sano etc. I'm really excited about the addition of Correa, Gray and Archer and what each can bring to the game. Go Twins!
  9. I stated that I really like Larnach's hitting future, not crazy about his fielding but it's good enough to play the corner. With all the infielders they brought in and Lewis need to step up at SS together the lack of depth at viable true MLB ready CF that where we need Martin. He's a prospect he can never have enough playing time where he needs to be playing CF. What gets me especially worried is that Cave is getting some soft ABs playing CF. In the past Cave had a 40 man spot and monopolized the position as Buxton sub. Due to this we lost many games and prevented other more qualified in house players like Wade and Baddoo a spot on the 40 man or anyone else from outside to better man that position because of their "love affair" with Cave. If Martin is qualified to play CF, please play him there and quit fooling around with Cave. Saying that Martin is good enough so he doesn't need ST time doesn't fly with me. So why does Buxton need time there?
  10. We agree on Larnach pretty much. If Martin is ready to play OF especially CF that's where we really need him not INF. Because we have plenty of infielders and at SS which where we could use him, many don't think he'd good enough stick there. Why aren't they playing him there? makes no sense.
  11. I would not bat Arraez ahead of #1 Buxton #2 Polanco and #3 Correa I see these top 3 take an extra base or steal. Arraez painfully never steals or takes an extra base so he'd just clog the base path for anyone who would do so.
  12. There's no doubt in my mind that Larnach is and will develope into a pretty good hitter. Just a matter of time for him to adjust and readjust to MLB pitching. I think it's a matter of time we move on from Sanchez from DH and Sano' at 1B. But my greatest worry is not our OF bats but our OF gloves. Not only of not having a true MLB ready CF to sub Buxton but lack of defense in replacing Kepler in RF and depth at LF with Rooker and Garlic well below par, Larnach not much better and Kiriloff at best avg.. I get frustated by this FO lack of concern for this area of much need, It's like they purposely not seek out anyone to leave the door open for Cave to walk in & unconsciencely help us lose more games. Let's just just get rid of Cave so this is no longer a temptation and make a conscience effort for once and get a true MLB ready CF sub before Celestino and Martin are MLB ready.
  13. I agree with you Cody. Winder shouldn't be considered as starting the season as #5 SP. It wouldn't be fair to the team to give up the chance to compete in 2022 by slating Winder in, w/o no real back-up plan. Just throw Winder in there and see if he swims if not oh well I don't care if we compete, I don't like that attitude. Not only that, it wouldn't be fair to put Winder in that situation and pressure. We need another veteran front line SP as plan A. Later have Winder put into a controlled rotating long reief corp. That gives Winder a chance to get used to the waters before he's thrown into the deep end. Last season they experimented with poor or inexperienced 3/4 OFers with no real plan B and that helped sink the Twins. Lets have better options this season and compete and even win a post season game. Let's not give up on that!
  14. Thanks again Seth for your updates. Yes Lewis & Martin makes a great team hate to break them up. I was curious of the 3 non roster OFers, are there any true CFers in the bunch? Haven't heard anything about them. And we really need a MLB ready CFer to back up Buxton. How well is Celestino coming along to fill that spot?
  15. This is like an insurance policy for Correa, Like any insurance co. the Twins have to look at the odds and the rewards against the risk. I'm sure the Twins saw the odds and the rewards (both tangible and intangible) out weighed the risk and I fully agree. This Correa deal was no master plan by the FO. With the Donaldson, Garver and Rortvedt/ Ursela and Sanchez deal, the FO had painted themselves in a corner. While the Story negociations were going south, Correa, through Boras (as I suspected) contacted Flavey. Like so many deals that people accredit this FO, they were approached, I also believe that the Reds saw something in Chase Petty that they could develop, much like Castillo, and approach this FO. Otherwise I don't see it happening. PIT also approached this FO with a Musgrove/ Larnach deal, it only needed one small counter offer that didn't happen. SD instead stole Musgrove away and MN signed Happ and Shoemaker. Instead of holding the bag on the Story deal and lose face, this FO came out smelling like a rose with the Correa deal. This Correa deal is a Win/Win, we get a top of the line SS and Correa gets a chance to prove himself again and try to lose that cheating stigma linked w/ him in Houston. Together with seeing the ball so well in Target Field and our health phyloshophy in dealing w/ Cruz, Donaldson, Buxton and Garver might of also had some bearing on the decision. I hope that if the Twins stumble a little mid-season that they won't punt and trade Correa. I hope they devote themselves to the success of this team.
  16. I think it unwise to expect more from Ober than what he can give us in his big sophmore year. We have burned out too many SPs & RPs and have them limp across the finish line if they even finish. Again I stress a strong piggy-back system to keep everyone fresh.
  17. Polanco will improve w/ or w/o Correa as Polanco refamilars himself to 2B. But w/ Correa, Correa will bring greater aspiration. Polanco will be able to mesh with Correa, much like he did with Simmons because they are veterans and professional.
  18. I watched the press conference. I picked up a great vib from Correa and have come to really like him. He has a lot to give to the Twins tangibily and untangibily. I'm sure Falvey convinced him that we can become winners, So let's go out there and trade for Montas or his equivalent and a back up CF.
  19. Thank you Seth for drawing me back in a little, I agree that In general spring training are not important. It's for locked in veterans to hone their skills, I know that, Yet in the battle for LF last season, IMO if (prospect) Kiriloff had better ST stats he should have been awarded LF over (vet 4th OF) Cave and Broxton (vet, 5 tool player) had shown he was far superior over Cave in every category should have been selected at least 4th OF. Cave should not have been considered as a locked in, has been my point.
  20. Great article Cody. I liked the importance you put on "up the middle defense" for pitchers. Especially now with inexperienced pitchers, a flub or a bleeding infield could really pay the toll. Until you included catching I'd say we have a slightly better middle defensively than last season but with the changes at catching I'd rate us slightly less. Because Jeffers is too obvious w/ his stealing strikes and his poor arm. Of course his stance doesn't help either. Especially comparing with other clubs we need to look at depth in correspondence to susceptility to injury where we lack very much for years. Catching is a very demanding position which depth is very important. #1 back up Sanchez (very bad). SS #1 back - slight improvement with Lewis's inclusion, yet is iffy, still not solid. CF #1 back - Celestino should've been ready but has taken a step back, maybe Martin will become the one? yet not solid. 2B our lesser position and Polanco good health, is less important yet we here we have over abundant depth. With questions of Correa and Buxton playing not much over 100 games and the demand at catching, I'd like more viable, truer MLB ready replacements.
  21. Unlike I was once told that ST performances don't count (in relationship to the battle of the LH job last season). Evidently related to that, Baldelli thought he was right because he brought Cave w/ him after breaking camp (Cave had an horrendous ST) at the same time lying that he was taking the best. I still beg to differ, ST performances do count. I hope Winder continue to improve and make the active roster.
  22. 1 yr. removed from SS and his ankles recovered. I expect great prodction throughout this season with 3 players vieing for MVP.
  23. I'd really like to see Sanchez turn it around and maybe with a positive surroundings he can. I'd like to see what he can do in ST. I'm a firm believer of 2nd chances, last ST we were in a desperate need of a viable back up to Buxton. Broxton excelled in every aspect at CF and Cave sucked again there. Instead of a no brainer call up of Broxton, giving him a vote of confidence and recognition which he needed, they broke camp w/ Cave. Sending the message that we don't care how hard you tried we are bringing up this bum. This is one of the reasons that we had a losing record last season.
  24. I will grant you that this FO has shown flexibility in seizing Correa when the Story negociations were going south fast. They were heading to where there was no options left, to getting the best option, But I disagree with you about 2017 that after they obtained Jamie Garcia instead of 2X down they turned around and punted by selling off several players. We advanced not because those moves but inspite of them. Players really turn it on when the FO is behind them much Atlanta did last year. At the deadline the Braves had less than impressive record chosed to improve and not punt. Now that the Twins signed Correa and traded for Gray and making an attempt at another SP. Especially if we shore up our weak points, the players will pick up on it and perform accordingly.
