Has Nick Gordon Proven His Worth to the Twins?
4twinsJA replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Like Gordon's versatility, can play any position but 1B and C, maybe he can work at that. He can hold his own at the plate, good speed, late inning pinch runner. According to Baseball Reference does not get arbitration until 2025 so Twins have him under their control for another 5 years after this year. Don't know if Gordon ever progresses to point he is a fulltime starter, but definitely has good value for Twins as utility player. -
Nice job Matt, I am not much of a Coulombe fan. I would put him #7 in the 8 man BP. His margin for error is just too small. Has been getting it done by keeping batters off balance but don't see that as being sustainable in the long term.

How Long of a Leash Should Dylan Bundy Get?
4twinsJA replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Bundy was signed to give time for Winder to be ready for MLB. Winder is ready and pitching well, Paddack has looked good as well. Archer seems to have higher upside than Bundy as well. Bundy does not fit in BP. Maybe a couple more starts.- 46 replies

Is It Time to Start Worrying About Austin Martin?
4twinsJA replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Not overly worried, one thing I have noticed, Martin is not very big. May not have alot of power potential, he needs to be who he is- high BA, high OBP guy and not worry so much about power. Don't like pointing the bat towards infield when hitting, needs to simplify swing. -
Is the Twins Rotation for Real?
4twinsJA replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Luck may not be the correct word to use. Yes, teams use all sorts of analytics, injury history, age of pitcher to help predict future success. But even with that, maybe a pitcher is deemed twice as likely to succeed than fail, that just means of 3 pitchers that fit that profile 2 will succeed and 1 will fail, will a team be have enough luck to pick one of the 2 that will succeed or be unlucky and pick the one that fails. That is an over simplification of the process, but my point is that there is no way to be 100% accurate, best hope is to put the odds in your favor, always a chance of being unlucky.- 44 replies

Is the Twins Rotation for Real?
4twinsJA replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think there is some degree of luck when it comes to acquiring experienced pitchers hoping for a rebound. Last year it did not work out, this year-so far, has been good. I look at Bundy and Archer as short term help, I mean 2-3 month place holders until Winder, Paddack and/or someone else is ready. If Twins get a full year of effective pitching from either Bundy or Archer is somewhat unexpected. Looks like rotation could be Gray, Ryan, Ober, Paddack, and Winder, but still need 1-2 possibly 3 more SPs to handle injuries. Should be plenty of innings for all 7 of these SPs over the year.- 44 replies

Prospect Retrospective: Cole Sands
4twinsJA replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Great for Sands to get callup and get first game jitters out of the way. Game played out perfectly for him to get opportunity. Sure he will get another chance this year, hopefully got some of the nerves out of the way. -
What the Twins Can Expect from Jose Miranda
4twinsJA replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree Kirilloff long term answer at !B, but would like to see him spend a month or so at St. Paul to get healthy and get some confidence back. I don't see a need to rush him back.- 29 replies

What the Twins Can Expect from Jose Miranda
4twinsJA replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Miranda off to slow start this year, but what else could he have done last year, at least hitting wise. Would have liked to have seen Miranda get a week or two with Twins last year, but did not happen. Hope Twins bring him up soon even if just for a week or two. Maybe he comes up and makes it hard to send him back down.- 29 replies

Paddack, Ryan, and Ober look like a great core to build on for the rotation for the next few years. Winder looks ready, with others on the way. Does not look like Twins will need to look at cast offs for rotation for next couple of years.

Kirilloff, Smeltzer Hope to Rejoin Twins Soon
4twinsJA replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Being off 40 man roster is a big hurdle for Smeltzer, but he should get an opportunity at some point this summer. I really like the pitch clock, good for the game, will probably be difficult for some experienced pitchers to adjust but they will have to and batter also- get in the box and be ready.- 18 replies

When healthy the first 11 are pretty set- Jeffers, Sanchez at C, Sano, Polanco, Correa, Ursela in IF, Kirilloff, Buxton, Kepler in OF, Arraez at DH, Gordon at Utility. Some of these can move around some like Kirilloff at 1B, Arraez at 3B or 2B so there is some flexibility. If Twins go with 14 pitchers, I go with Garlick for RH bat in OF for 12th position player, although he has not been very productive yet. 3rd catcher is only a phone call away if needed. I really like Urshela addition, great defensively and getting on base. To me he is fulltime 3B with Arraez at 3B occassionally to give day off.

Are the Twins Playing It Too Safe with April Rest Days?

Twins have won 5 in a row, so seems to not be hurting them too much. It's good to keep everyone involved and fresh.- 30 replies

Don't see Twins promoting anyone until at least June, not their philosophy and not most teams philosophy. No guarantee when get promotion has success at least initially- look at Witt for Royals, mashed AAA last year- struggling at MLB this year. As fan would love to see Lewis, Martin, and Miranda with Twins this year but realistically Martin unlikely-not on 40 man, Lewis really needs consistent playing time and success- may be best for his development to spend most of the year at AAA, Miranda most likely- an injury or two away from callup.

3 Takeaways from Friday's Win Over the White Sox
4twinsJA replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree with Sano, he has to lead the league in borderline strike calls. Bring on the robo umpire, at least there would be consistency. -
In Appreciation Of Dick Bremer
4twinsJA replied to Dave Overlund's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I like Bremer, he is a homer but so am I. Enjoyed his book as well. -
If Twins looking for 2 inning RP, why not Smeltzer. Pitch him every 3-4 days, left handed and good change of pace from power pitchers. Watched Henriquez pitch, looks good, may be another piece for bulllpen when he is ready.

Week in Review: Scare Factory
4twinsJA replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
To me, FO does not value relief pitching enough. Sure you can pick up some cast offs and piece together some of the bullpen but in today's game need 3-4 solid setup/closer types. Twins have Pagan-who has looked good, Duran-very inexperienced, Duffy- may never get back to 2020 form, Theilbar- a good story, but hasn't looked good this year. -
What is the bar for Sano? 40 HRs, .240 BA, K rate 33% (MLB ave. was 24% last year). Is a 2 run HR, 2 Ks, and a walk a good game?

Has Luis Arraez Earned a Starting Role?
4twinsJA replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Last night, why DH Urshela and play Arraez at 3B. Urshela far superior at 3B. I agree with Arraez at DH with a few starts in field a week. -
Like that Duran got to pitch 9th in a non-closing, low leverage opportunity. He has the ability to be the best closer on the Twins staff this year. Duran may not be able to go back to back games. And due to only pitching 15 innings the past 2 years, maybe 60-70 IP out of the bullpen this year would be a good goal for him. Would like to see Duran and Alcala get opportunity to get majority of save opportunities this year.

Twins Daily Community Awards: 2022 Offseason
4twinsJA replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Thanks for award. Enjoy TD, I am daily visitor. Twins had put Cave on the tee for me and had to take a full cut. Snarky comments do seem to be the most popular. -
I remember being excited for Happ and Shoe after their first starts last year. I am reserving judgement on Bundy.
