    That's the beauty of all of it. Solano takes over for Julien, which is actually a step down defensively. And yet, the moves made some sense. Kepler, the man who has been discussed often as a player to drop, has a big game. The first to third was huge, setting up the lead run. Interesting game and the Twins really worked hard against Castillo, a very tough pitcher.

    Is Brooks Lee getting very comfortable with professional baseball? When should he expect to be pushed to AAA? Could Lee handle MLB pitching? Or do the Twins wait for Lewis to return?

    In another odd twist, it is Solano at second base and he does not have the range of Julien. Yet, he was the correct choice to pinch hit for Gallo. Right?

    Two walks tonight on strikes. Those passed balls/ wild pitches are why it is so important to move runners to third base every chance it is possible.

    Not for a team struggling to score, but it always is for a team struggling to get above .500. So that actually applies to both teams tonight. The sentiment is that Taylor coming to the plate in a key situation will not be favorable. I'm not going to second guess Baldelli for that decision, but I can see a possible objection.

    Hopefully he pitches the remainder of the year like his first ten starts. You make a good point about early speculation but I'm not wanting to sign Gray for market value even if he does finish the year strong.

    This would have sounded way off a month ago, but Brooks Lee looks like he has figured out his swing. I mean the hesitancy seems gone and he is attacking now. 30 doubles and 10 home runs already and solid defense makes him a guy to advance soon. Can he handle MLB pitching yet? I never would have thought a month ago.

    I was thinking that three years and about $57 million sounds good for Sonny Gray. I do not think the Twins should be in on him.

    Unless I hear an interview or read a quote from Kepler, I do not believe that Kepler has a stance that he will not play centerfield.

    Does the scouting department choose which players the Twins pick in their drafts or is there some general guidance for types of players? I have no idea about how the Twins make their choices. Players like Rooker, Larnach, Wallner, and Sabato are fine as a part of an organization. The problem arises when the balance of types tips too heavily away from athleticism. The future of the Twins will largely depend on guys like Lewis, Lee (who dropped in lat year's draft), and Jenkins (ping pong luck) along with how the pitcher's develop. Walker Jenkins needs to reach his potential but it was the only sane choice in a year where two high school bats were identified a year ago as among the top five players to be drafted. Skenes had a big year and replaced Dollander who lost his slider among the top group, who were seen as quite separate from the rest. As always, time will tell who can make it in pro ball.

    .... and he looks so goofy too. But the Twins need his bat right now. Maybe he can be a DH?

    Nobody is giving Julien credit for a great glove but he hasn't been hurting the team in the field. There have been three plays by my count. The errors actually did not hurt. Julien has not had the number of innings on defense as others and I agree he isn't a good defender. Julien also has not been given any credit for showing better range than the other second basemen, which isn't saying he has good range. When Polanco returns, does Eddie go back to St. Paul? The Twins need to make some decisions. The have been putting off hard calls for quite a while now.

    I cannot understand what is happening with Buxton. He looks hurt. Buck is a special athlete, but baseball requires some health. I guess we actually just don't know and he gets put in the three hole every game, yet he looks like a guy that belongs on the IL.

    FWIW, Julien is only playing because of injuries or he would be playing for St. Paul. He has been the Twins best player when he gets to play. Julien gets ripped for his defense despite only two errors and a couple of misplays and constantly is mentioned as a player to trade. Performance wins games and I'll take the guys who perform. Julien has shown value. Wallner deserves some at bats because he has shown that he can take a pitch, has cut his K-rate, and has generally handled the pitching he has faced whether it was at AAA or MLB. I have not been a big fan of Wallner but he has a low bar to clear to show better than Gallo.

    This is a big series for the Twins. Seattle is looking to make a move now and they see a chance to assess their team before the trade deadline and the seven contests with Minnesota are their best shots. I would say the Twins are in the same position but I have zero idea what Falvey and Levine think about the team. This should be a big series for Byron Buxton as well but maybe nothing that happens is important to the eyes in the front office. The poor guy has been so totally out of whack that it seems unlikely for Buck to turn things around in a meaningful way. Then again .... in the immortal words of Joaquin Anduhar, "There is one word in America that says it all, and that one word is, 'You never know'." The Twins should just give Wallner his outright release and allow him to get an opportunity with another team. It would be the decent thing to do if they are dead set on giving him any real playing time. The quote by Baldelli was pretty egregious, but then it is unclear if Baldelli even makes out the lineups. It is a cloudy situation.

    Jenkins has superstar potential, which I'm excited to see. The Twins could use a perennial All Star.

    What is the offer? I would take a top ten global prospect for Gray right now. The bar should be pretty high for the Twins to consider trading Sonny Gray.

    If a team wants to offer a top 25 global prospect for Gray, the Twins should listen. Who knows if San Diego, Arizona, Baltimore, or another team is thinking about winning this year and willing to lose their top prospect(s) to acquire Gray? No team will be thinking about any comments Gray has made recently. They just will want a pitcher now. Gray will be a free agent unless a team puts forth a number (years and dollars) that easily meet his goals. The Twins should not be in that conversation unless they are going to spend like the Padres, so no. I expect Gray to finish the year as a Twins and receive a QO, which he turns down. The Twins get a solid draft pick and Gray gets a good contract.

    Unless the Twins plan on putting Buxton in the outfield full time or on the IL, the Twins are not a match in a trade for Ohtani. That doesn't even consider that the players the Angels would receive in return would be much more than has thus far been offered for the superstar P/DH.
