  1. Not for Keller because it seems quite unlikely that Pittsburgh would trade any pitcher. They were 22nd in runs scored for their offense but have some young guys. Likewise the Pirates pitchers are 22nd (from best) in giving up runs. So they need to improve. I also am greedy and want someone that is possibly better. There are a couple of things I look for: 1) WHIP 2) BAA 3) BB:K 4) years and 5) availability. Of course, we do not know who exactly is available. We can guess that Seattle and Miami are a couple of teams worth calling. Alas, we are off topic here because this thread is about whether Pagan will get a good contract and perhaps some speculation whether the Twins would pay a reliever. To those questions I'm guessing Pagan gets a decent deal and the Twins do not spend for big for a relief pitcher.
  2. The one thing I would add which makes me think Emmanuel Rodriguez can be a star is that he has a lightning quick bat. Falvey and the boys get paid megabucks to make the decisions.
  3. Along with that .... is Kepler younger athletically than one might think? Who would replace Kepler?
  4. Not that I necessarily disagree with the idea, but what makes you believe that the Twins will be signing a noteworthy free agent starter? Does the reduced experience and depth weaken the team?
  5. Sometimes it is time to move on to a different job or to a new location. I'm thinking Costa Rica or Panama. Moving and switching jobs is a pain in the ass. The nervousness and excitement can be a good thing too. There are as everyone knows, so many unknowns. Maybe Sonny Gray is tired of that routine. Perhaps Gray would like to repeat another year with the same basic collection of teammates, trainers, manager, and location. If Sonny feels like he wants to pitch one more year, someone will offer more than $20.5 million for the year and if he thinks he is just hitting a groove he should seek 4/$90 million. Gray gets to determine where he goes .... finally. The money is not an issue because he will get paid in any event.
  6. Ok. Isn't that what every team does though? I have no objection to how you define "pitching pipeline". I'm too sure how predictive that is for ensuring continuity but it sure can be as Tampa Bay has shown over the last decade. Some may have different views on what constitutes a "pitching pipeline". Either way, I hope the Twins swing another trade this winter to bring in a good arm.
  7. Roster payroll is not an issue right now. The Twins can easily cut 10% from their last season's payroll and still fit everyone. Now, many folks have suggested adding a high priced free agent starting pitcher or re-signing Sonny Gray. I would like that too. However, the Twins have not previously been players in that market. If they are it means that they will keep or exceed the payroll numbers from last year. So, currently there is really zero concern with payroll.
  8. Sure, this could happen. Athletes bet on themselves all the time. The unknown is how long Sonny Gray sees himself as an effective starting pitcher. There is an enormous time commitment put into the conditioning work and mental preparation for the season, not to mention the physical and mental grind of the actual season itself. Gray has suggested that he is still improving as a pitcher. Another unknown is how other teams view Gray. His age may seem like a barrier for some but a few guys have shown that experience and knowing how to pitch remains more predictive of success that youth or power. I like the "Hey, we're just riffing here" comment. Sonny returns -nice.
  9. This is a good explanation. Just a couple of points worth considering. BTV? it is interesting, but does anyone really believe that Griffin Jax, who we like, is a close match for Juan Soto? There are dozens of examples of insane trades possible using the numbers from that site. Emmanuel Rodriguez may be among the top ten prospects in baseball and yet his value is more than 50 points less than many other equal prospects and similar to Griffin Jax. Again, I like the idea of thinking who can be acquired and Keller (from Cedar Rapids, Iowa) would be a strong addition to any team. The other piece of any trade is to think like a fan of both teams in hopes of finding a transaction that fills needs for each of the squads. Bednar may be a possible idea if the Twins send back a starting pitcher or add a good prospect to Polanco. Some people hate the idea of suggested trades but others of us like playing around for fun. It's just a goofy guessing game by all of us and about the same as the national "experts" who make money writing up their ideas. We are not GMs or PBOs, just fans. We have to keep the ideas moving.
  10. I'm not sure how you came up with this trade and put this combination together. Did the thought of Pagan leaving or the contract for Jimenez spark the thoughts of adding pitching? Bednar has three years left and Keller two years left of salary control. Decent. Both are excellent pitchers that would help any team. Julien was essentially the player that got the Twins going this year. Maybe he has peaked. Emmanuel Rodriguez is right there with (in talent) Walker Jenkins, but prospects can always fail. I like the idea of thinking about pitching but I'm going to ask that Pittsburgh throw in Skenes if Erod goes the other way. The Pirates are looking for a second baseman, but trading those two would lengthen their rebuild as well. Who knows though? Don't see a match with this trade. I do like how bold it is, but too bold for me.
  11. Good luck to Emilio Pagan. He finished his Twins career with a solid year.
  12. You are correct - I can't play hockey, especially in Mexico. Haven't played a game of hockey since switching to basketball after Bantoms. I remember it was fun flying around the ice.
  13. That's a wrap. Five long cold months ahead ......
  14. True. Trades, prospects, free agents, and the waiver wire.
  15. Well, the Rangers have seen Sewald a ton from his days in Seattle and .... well, Semien is just outstanding.
  16. What a year for Semien. All time leader in PA in a season, closes it out with a bomb. Just wow.
  17. Man, I really feel for Thomas. He has been so good in CF.
  18. Nope. Confidence in Sborz.
  19. Oh I love how Royce plays so happy, almost like he has recovered from two ACL surgeries and is now in the major leagues. Still, Erod has a swagger that jumps off the screen and he seeks the moment. They are Twins.
  20. Does Texas go for the six out save?
  21. Carter takes similar at bats to Julien. He lays off of pitches he doesn't think are good for hits ... and he has some swing and miss in his game too.
  22. The work by the umpires has been really outstanding in this series.
  23. Take a look at the Splits for Emmanuel sometime. When he learns to concentrate throughout every at bat, Erod is going to be a beast.
  24. not happening He is out now.
  25. D Backs wiggled out of that inning. Don't understand why Texas did not send Carter. He is fast and Thomas does not have much of an arm. Great game.
