  1. As far as position players go the core of Correa, Buxton, and Lewis can definitely carry the team if they are all healthy and playing in peak form. That is a really big if. That being said the potential is there. The Twins even have a nice supporting cast similar to the Braves but without the team friendly extensions (hint front office.... Hint) of Wallner, Jeffers, Killeroff, Polanco, Kepler, and Julien. On the pitching side we have a core of Lopez and Duran with a nice supporting cast of Ryan, Ober, and maybe / likely Paddack (health pending) and a bullpen support cast of Thielbar, Jax, Stewart, and possibly Varland if in the pen and the jury will be out on Funderburk, Alcala, and Winder (Winder did seem to settle in down the stretch run) So yes, we have the core for a really good team. As long as there is no real regression or too many injuries. That is why I think the key to the offseason is to find a 2-3 starter, a 6th/7th starter maybe a bullpen arm and depth around the diamond. nothing too major outside the one rotation arm. This is why I am not too concerned about the payroll drop especially now that resigning Gray is no longer an option. what we need shouldn't cost too much.
  2. The point was we already have most of what we lost in house already. So instead of replacing 350 innings from Gray Maeda and Pagan to maybe needing 150 innings from an outside source. I didn’t say it was easy or we could just that is what is likely needed to replace what we lost. These loses were planned as last year the three made under 21 million. Next year the 3 will make 47 million. That’s a big jump for our payroll so good for Falvey and Levine for have contingencies in place in advance of these loses. And the contingencies cost 2.535 million and league minimum. I’m going to trust that there is a good chance we find that pitcher as long as we are not to handcuffed by finances to acquire the pitcher needed.
  3. I think I said this in a different post but Paddack should be able to pitch 100-120 innings this season of low to mid 3 ERA. Put Varland in the pen / 6th or 7th starter and watch him get 5-8 starts with 40-50 relief appearances and 90-110 innings at a low 3. ERA and If you think Caneterino can step in. He will need some time in the minors after the injury maybe by the All Star break we get 30-35 innings of 2.5 - 3.25 ERA we now have 220-265 of the 325 innings replaced internally. Alcala could step up and a full season of Brock and Theilbar gets us closer yet. We should still try to find another starter who can provide 100-130 maybe 150-160 innings of low 3 ERA as well so we have extra insurance in case of injuries.
  4. 30 million per WAR is not too bad. There are much worse contracts out there. Free Agent contracts are typically solid at 10 million per WAR and a value when a team gets more WAR than that. At lease Vazquez is good defensively. same with Correa. Most of Correa's slide in value is in batting average. the rest of his numbers were similar to past numbers. Buxton was injured so lets see what happens next season now that he is likely to be healthy. Dobnak was a head scratcher to me. I think they planned on him being a bullpen / 6th man type of pitcher and he could be that 6th/ 7th starter next year. I wouldn't be surprised if he got 5 starts for Minnesota next year or several weeks in the pen or both. On another note. These contracts are not Heyward bad or Phill Hughes extension or Ricky Nolasco contract bad.
  5. Here is another thought son the subject. Paddack is likely to replace and pitch better than Maeda in 100-120 innings next year. Put Varland in the pen and as an emergency starter and he pitches 70-90 innings of under 3.00 ERA and you now have about 180 innings of the 288 innings of Maeda and Gray already replaced internally. We just need to replace another 100-120 innings at an ERA of just over 3.00 and we likely come out ahead and at a much lower cost. Paddack 2.535 million and Varland under 750 k and ? Vs 47 million for the three mentioned earlier. Surely we can replace this last innings at a reasonable price.
  6. The pen needs very little at this point. A free agent depth signing or reclamation project maybe two if Varland is in the rotation. Would Raya be an option at some point next season? He is only pitching 3-4 innings a start.
  7. Last season Gray, Maeda and Pagan cost the Twins close to 21 million. Next season they would cost over 47 million. We can get an Ohtani with that kind of money. But I think that is why the Twins have decided to move on.
  8. I think the Twins made their big moves for the winter meetings. They signed Moran to a 2 year minor league deal and Rodriguez to a 1 year minor league deal.
  9. The Farmer for Carlson trade has merit. If we get Carson why are we signing Bader? We have Castro and Gordon already as players who can backup OF and play CF. Carlson and Bader is an either or kinda of move. pittsburg is not trading Keller see my post above. Hoskins is a good idea but I think a platoon of Miranda and Killeroff makes more sense and they can be part of DH rotation for more AB. I figure the top 2 holes on the team are #2 starter replacement for Gray which also would fill the depth in rotation as well and CF defense. Buxton may be ready to go and Castro and Gordon could be the fillins which could work. But if not there are 3 CF on the market. Bader, Kiermaier and Taylor. Any of these three will do. If we need additional payroll then trading Vázquez and Polanco make the most sense. I like the idea of getting Devin Williams but if Milwaukee is trading him they are in tear down/ rebuild mode and want prospects only.. Why not just trade Polanco for prospects?
  10. If I am Pittsburg and trading Keller, I want pitching prospects coming back. Teams only trade pitching when they are about to loose pitcher or when they have too much pitching. A Frank Viola type return. Winder, Festa, Lewis and Sands might do the trick. 5/6 years of 2 swing man as the floor and 2 potential starters too.
  11. I think Pagan would be an option for the Twins for at most 5 million per season more likely 4. But good for him to get the score. He has a longer track record of giving up HRs than last year’s stingy mark. Odds are he regresses some. If he figured something out and can keep it up…..Nah…..
  12. If the Twins have to trade Polanco, Vázquez and Farmer to free up the cash to trade for a starter it may make more sense to sign a Keuchel or Odorizzi for depth//5th starter and roll with what we have. Though I suspect they also want to sign a CF too I guess trading Vázquez helps lower payroll and probably more importantly lowers 2025 commitments. A low cost backup with Camargo waiting in AAA and Jeffers starting 100 games +-10 will not be a huge drop off except a downgrade on defense. Savings around 8-9 million per season if they can trade the whole contract. I’m of the opinion Vázquez will hit in the .240-.260 range next season with similar power and an OPS near but below .700. If trading Vázquez allows us to keep others I’m on board. If we have to trade others to creating more holes…. I guess it comes down to which holes would you prefer. A downgraded rotation and CF or downgraded C, IF depth, and…
  13. Satire. There is no link to an article or request to do so. so……. But it does make sense that there is a good match no matter how I titled the blog post.
  14. When I wrote this, I was saying there is a match. I didn’t mean literally Seattle is targeting Polanco as I am not a reporter just a blogger. But Polanco is one of the best players available at 2B. I think the Orioles have lots of talent to trade as well. But our biggest need is a #2 starter and Seattle needs a good 2B and 3B. So a Lee Polanco package or Farmer and Polanco package could lead to us getting that pitcher. Both teams do have other options. But the matchup is there now. I’m just pointing that out and watching every thing happen as the Twins will move slowly this winter.
  15. I think the big reason the Twins didn’t want to go 2 years with Maeda was the commitments we already have for 2025 season. Maeda on a 2 year deal is fine. We just didn’t have the money in the budget for either as Gray signed a reasonable contract as well. I think the Twins would be a place for Gray as Minnesota did check off a lot of boxes for him and isn’t too far from home. Probably 2-4 on his list. But that darn budget.
  16. Winder and Sands were usable as 7th and 8th members of the bullpen last year and make near league minimum. The others will also make league minimum. Balazovich is the only one I see and I can see the Twins offering a nice enough split contract to be able to keep him if he doesn’t make the team.
  17. Seattle just traded their 3B to AZ for a back up C and pitching prospect. They were looking for a second base upgrade before but this makes it even more important for them to trade a starting Pitcher to Minnesota for a package around Polanco. The pitcher acquired may not replace the starter we acquire but will help give them more depth. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/11/dbacks-trade-seby-zavala-mariners-catcher.html A deal with trader Dipoto in Seattle will get done.
  18. What about 2025 team payroll. You would have to trade that starter if we don’t get to the 7th game of the World Series and we would need to replace the TV revenue too.
  19. Brock mentioned Peralta from Milwaukee. He is on a great team friendly contract for 5.75, 8, 8 with 875k incentives for all three years and one or two of the last years of the contract are team options. I would trade for him. A half step below Gray at a 1/3 the cost or less…. Probably expensive to trade. But we should have what they want in a trade. Julien or Lee and Larnarch or Wallner and maybe Winder with Milwaukee entering a tear down rebuild they may want more prospects at a lower level or a mixture of both low and high level players

  21. The 2025 budget says this is a bad idea.
  22. The last time they tried this the Pohlads were called greedy because people would have to pay for the channel. They can’t catch a break from the fans.
  23. It could be worse we cou Be facing a San Diego size 50 million from payroll cut. And they probably need to do more. Or they will probably need to cut more in the future. I’m curious to see how many other teams cut payroll over this. At least the Pohlads are transparent with what is going on. I do think the cut will be closer to 135-140 million than the 125 low point. Saying 125 makes them look like less of a bad guy when they hit the higher range. We actually have plenty of depth just not the CF per se. but we have Gordon, Vazquez, Farmer (for now) and Castro. We will also have platoons where the players are looking for time at other positions. Polanco/ Julien and Killeroff and likely Miranda if healthy and producing. And we have minor leaguers ready to step in. Martin and Severino to name a few. Like I said signing a back up CF and getting a top of the rotation starting pitcher and maybe dumpster diving for a reliever to compete in spring training is all we need. Other than wanting to resign Gray. Limiting us to a reclamation project or trade is our only options for the rotation otherwise. Let’s see how the offseason plays out before we get all 😡 mad.
  24. Noah says 👋. He is the SS prospect who won the minor league gold glove this year.
