Ranking the Twins Offseason Moves
Fire Dan Gladden replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree with the way you rated these transactions. I think we need to make sure we don't downplay the importance of #4 and #5 (and #6 really as well). The days of every position playing 150+ games are over. Having solid depth guys come in and play multiple positions is a huge gain for this team. Raising the floor does matter.- 44 replies

Give Joey Gallo a Chance

That, ladies and gentlemen, is the fantastic level of analysis and depth we have come to know and love from our Twins Daily staff! 🙂 -

Well if you don't like an OPS+ of 116, which is what he did in Texas, I can't help you. -

Many players have performed poorly in those cities and excelled elsewhere. New York and Los Angeles are totally different monsters when it comes to baseball atmosphere and pressure -
Give Joey Gallo a Chance
Fire Dan Gladden replied to Hunter McCall's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Stop bringing logic to an emotional argument. -
I have to admit, I laughed and laughed when I saw this. More because of the expected responses than the seeing Gallo at the top. My first thought was how would Jim Thome look batting leadoff. Classic... I agree that OBP and pitches seen are important in a leadoff hitter, there is more to it than that. Statistics show that for every slot you move down the order, you lose about 20 PA over the course of the year. I subscribe to the theory you put your best hitter up there. The top of the lineup should go: 1) Buxton 2) Correa 3) Polanco Followed up probably by Miranda, then it is fairly interchangeable.

The Twins Need to be Realistic With Max Kepler
Fire Dan Gladden replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Where have you seen Kepler getting little benefit from the shift ban? Basically every article out there has Kepler among the top five or so that were negatively impacted by the shift. It stands to reason that he could see a pretty healthy spike with the shift gone. FWIW - Joey Gallo saw a higher negative impact than Kepler. Another reason why Gallo is a reasonable flyer to take here.- 69 replies

The Twins Need to be Realistic With Max Kepler
Fire Dan Gladden replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Kepler still a Twin on opening day? Gallo playing 1B? Where have I heard that before... I don't think anybody has said that he is a long term piece of the puzzle or a "core" piece. But he does have value, more than people think. He should benefit from the shift ban and he is a very reasonably priced piece batting 7th. Let the "We have to trade Kepler!" screaming commence.- 69 replies

Still complaining about pitching depth I see... I think they are looking for another relatively big move, but I don't see it being a pitcher. I see them moving a SS prospect and some pitching prospects (both current areas of depth) and some other players if need be (Gordon, Kepler levels) to get a corner IF or corner OF RH bat.

Puckett was elected because everybody loved him (off field issues aside). BBWAA will vote for guys they like and not vote for guys they don't like (Curt Schilling anyone). Many do not use any common sense. Why else would Bronson Arroyo get a vote? They are petty that way.

Yeah... Don't get me started on relievers and Cooperstown. Compare Joe Nathan and Billy Wagner.

Santana's 5 year stretch is up there with any 5year stretch by a pitcher in modern history. Unfortunately his counting numbers were not strong. Granted Drysdale pitched in the 4 man rotation era, but his counting numbers were considerably higher than Santana. Santana needed to pitch another 5 healthy successful years to get a good look. I love him, but he will ultimately end up in the Hall of Very-Good.

I have seen a lot of discussion regarding Torii Hunter. There seems to be a belief that he won't get in by the BBWAA, but he will get voted in by the player's committee at some point in the future. He is by no means a lock, he didn't have that torrid peak most HOFers but, but he was very, very good for an extended period of time.

I must be missing something here... They have traded very little in the way of top pitching prospects to acquire these current pitchers. If they were clearing the cupboard to acquire these assets I would see the argument, but that is not the case. Keeping your top 3-5 prospects in the system and trading everything else is very sustainable IMO. Especially when you receive assets that are not rentals. There are only so many pitching spots to be had on the 40-man roster...

Mauer will get in. If the high-horse BBWAA doesn't vote him in, he will be be put in by the players committee. There really is no argument here. Taking out all homer opinions, it is really hard to debate he is not statistically among the top catchers to ever play the game.

Totally fine with this trade. I continue to watch with interest... The Twins have a glut of: - Strong glove, "prove-it" bat outfielders - #3 SP - high end SS prospects stuck behind one of the better SS in baseball It feels like there is a big move coming. Any 1B/3B guys on the market that might fit this trade scenario?

Keeping the Rolls Royce in the Garage
Fire Dan Gladden replied to Alex Boxwell's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Nobody wants to hear this Ash. Ever since the Falvey FO and Rocco were hired, the mob has been screaming robots and spreadsheets. The blame for every wrong decision... well... for every decision that people don't agree with goes back to this mantra. In a perfect world Buxton plays every day. This isn't perfect. Decisions are being made to mitigate risk and injuries. That doesn't mean they will always work out. Buxton is a pro. He should understand what is going on and should work to mentally prepare for those days when he is DHing -
Who Will Be the Twins' Opening Day DH?
Fire Dan Gladden replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Last year Correa was a rental, this year he is a long term asset. He has missed substantial time over in 4 of the last 6 years. There is a good chance Correa will get more DH days this year. I agree with your optimization point, but the Twins (like a lot of teams today) will use the DH as a quasi day off. With the DH as a revolving door, you are really talking about improving the bench. The only name from your list that I think would be a realistic option here is Profar. Everybody else really falls into that AAAA category.- 60 replies

Who Will Be the Twins' Opening Day DH?
Fire Dan Gladden replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It doesn't really matter who the Opening Day DH is. Everybody will DH, the days of Nelson Cruz are over. That being said, Buxton and Correa will DH at least 1 day per week each. I would not be surprised to see Vasquez there occasionally as well- 60 replies

They had a surplus of high-end SS prospects before Correa signed. You can never have too much talent.
