  1. We can't do that. You see the FO sucks because we didn't sign [insert player here] so we need to complain about signing [insert potential useful player here].
  2. Wow... lots of comments on a MiLB signing. Everybody must be bored...
  3. Buxton... Sure. Anybody else, nope. Maeda will have his innings monitored too much to be in the conversation. Gray would have to pitch out of his mind. No rookies will get enough time to warrant consideration. Lewis would have the smallest of chances (80 or 90 games could do it if the impact was great enough), but it would depend on when he returns to action.
  4. Really good article here talking about the potential long term impacts of Correa's health and what might be going on. https://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/ny-carlos-correa-ankle-contract-physical-20221229-2sldlmrspjbrznzpc4cuzgjlsy-story.html Another plausible explanation as to why the Twins are holding firm on their 10 years
  5. Kepler has more value to the Twins and more value than most people think. Look beyond bWAR and fWAR. His contract is not overbearing, he is consistent, there is a huge potential for an offensive improvement. People have been questioning the Gallo signing since day one. Gallo can easily be summed up in the following paragraph: If Kirilloff... If Wallner... If Larnach... If Gordon... If Buxton... That is a whole heck of a lot of "ifs". That is why Gallo is here. He covers all of those ifs, not to mention his ability to play corner infield spots. Also, an outfield of Gallo, Buxton, and Kepler is the best defensive outfield in baseball. Gallo in does not mean Kepler out. I am expecting Kepler to be on the Twins roster to start 2023.
  6. I will bet my left shoe that one of the main reasons the Twins have held fast at their current numbers is due to the fact that this was a line for insurance purposes. The Twins (and Astros) have the best medical information on Correa. This has not changed.
  7. Of course (don't bring logic to an emotional discussion...). But you can't deny that the tone of the comments has changed considerably.
  8. The complete 180 being done in these comments just cracks me up... Two weeks ago the Twins were too cheap to sign Correa. Now they would be stupid to sign him to the contract they offered. Absolutely nothing has changed in the Twins knowledge of Correa's health.
  9. Forget the game sims... Strat-o-Matic. Cards and dice baby!
  10. If these are your top three that need to step up, we are much better off than anybody thinks. Miranda - I can agree with Lopez - probably 10th on the "step up" list Jeffers - was mitigated by the Vazquez signing, not even on the "step up" list Mahle, Maeda, Kepler, Buxton, Polanco all deserve a place on this list ahead of the three you mentioned (except possibly Miranda, who would be in the mix somewhere)
  11. Even rebuilding teams need veteran leadership. Gray is also reasonably priced, no need to move him just yet. I hope everyone sees that this "rebuilding" team that you are describing is pretty close to what we have.
  12. You all are a bunch of wimps... -11 degrees with -35 degree windchill? Come talk to me when it is -30/-50. I didn't even zip up my coat... There is a reason rich people are rich. It doesn't happen by throwing money out the window. That is why it is such big deal when one decides to make it rain.
  13. I agree with your assessments, though Escobar has a team friendly contract, brings intangible values, and lifts the bench floor. He would be a fit here.
  14. Apologies... I feel appropriately chastised.

  17. I posted this elsewhere and am posting it here as well. Taken from a Buster Olney paywall article: Early in the offseason, the Twins made it clear they wanted Correa back, and according to industry sources, they offered $285 million over 10 years. When you factor in state taxes and the length of the proposals, rival evaluators note that Correa is actually making markedly less annually in his deal with the Mets than he would've gotten with the Twins, let alone the Giants. But Correa has always been a big-stage personality, someone who gravitates toward the brightest lights -- in this case, Cohen's lights, in New York. Correa's final decision was not about money.
  18. Buster Olney doing the dirty work... I am going to pull a quote from his paywall article today: Early in the offseason, the Twins made it clear they wanted Correa back, and according to industry sources, they offered $285 million over 10 years. I have said this in other places. Correa's final decision was not about money.
  19. Don't be so sure they didn't. Could be that the term and dollars that were offered were capped there for a reason, be it insurability or otherwise.
  20. Wait... You mean we can't blame the FO anymore? Doggone it. What are we going to talk about NOW?
  21. Here is another question for debate: If the Mets happen to fail him (which I 99% doubt), should the Twins still sign him? Even at their last offer? That would be two teams to pass on him physically.
  22. Maybe nobody. Maybe it was tactical. Maybe they made decent runs at 5-6 guys and none of them panned out. We don't know. Stop looking to blame because you don't like the tack they took.
  23. Ok... First of all, people need to stop throwing numbers around like monopoly. Nobody here has skin in the game. You are talking about 10-20-35 million dollars like it is nothing. Like it or not, baseball is a business. The Twins are a business. This ownership group has acted this way for years, they make no bones about it. To continue to complain about it is asinine. Come talk to me when you are willing to front $35 million of your own money. The Twins knew what their number was on Correa, they weren't willing to move on it. As fans, just accept it and move on. Second, everybody needs to stop talking about direct correlation. A does not lead to B. It was not Vazquez/Gallo or Correa. The signings/situations were totally independent of each other. If you think signing Correa would have stopped this team that had 1 catcher on the 40 man roster from signing Vazquez, you are wrong. Same with Gallo. Everybody is mad because the Twins had basically two routes they could go. Spend tons of money on FA or see what the young guys bring to the table. Personally I was hoping it would be closer to spending, but they chose option B. Everybody that has been complaining about not giving the younger guys the chance... now you are getting your wish. Deal with it.
  24. Actually it's not skimping, that is sound business. You do you your cost/benefit analysis and figure out how much you are willing to pay. Once you reach your threshold, that's it. The Giants offer was insanely high. The Mets offer was insanely high when you factor in the luxury tax. If the Mets weren't crazy, what are the chances Correa would be a Twin right now with their offer? Probably pretty good.
  25. This article feels like trolling... Assumptions everywhere that the Twins did nothing and watched the world go by while praying to the church of Correa. Salary was not the ultimate hurdle in Correa going to the Mets. He went to the Mets to play in a bigger market with more revenue opportunities and to play on a team that has a very strong chance to win for years to come. Nowhere has there been any comments made that even if the Twins had matched the insane Giants offer, that he would choose MN. The same can be said about his deal with the Mets. We seriously need to stop putting the lack of Correa coming here squarely on the shoulders of the FO. Sure, the FO decisions may be part of it, but stop this "failure" blame game.
