I'm overseas in the UK and was excited to be able to watch a game that started at a reasonable time for me. Then the delay happened and it got to about midnight after the Larnach homer and I decided I had to go to sleep and just hope the bullpen could hold on in what I assumed would be a tight game. This is a very pleasant box score to wake up to!

These kinds of trade proposals are always funny to me, because it's predicated on the fact that his recent success is probably smoke and mirrors as the underlying numbers don't back it up, so we should hurry up and trade him before he turns back into a pumpkin. But this entire argument assumes other teams can't also see those underlying numbers and draw the exact same conclusion. Why would a team give up a meaningfully good position player (which is the only thing the Twins should be interested in with a Paddack trade) for a pitcher who is very likely to regress?

Twins 6, Orioles 3: Nine. Times.

Was at this game for my first ever time at Camden, and it was great to see that even though it was an incredibly sparse crowd, it had to be at least half Twins fans. Great pair of games on a chilly, soggy day.- 21 replies

No, not even in the slightest. Dude has 77 major league innings. Let's give him a little runway before declaring him done.

Twins Calling up Top 100 Prospect Luke Keaschall
JDubs replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Let's gooooooooo! I know we're all generally down on the team right now, but it's also nice to sit back and think about how in the Terry Ryan era this move would have been to have Bride fill in because of his "veteran leadership." Screw that, let's see the kids play! -
I dunno, I just finished listening to this Twins podcast by these two guys who kept reminding everyone that it's only a small handful of games and it's silly to draw any conclusions from what has happened so far. Can't remember the name, but whoever wrote this should check it out, might help them calm down a bit.

I mean, sure they did use all their worst guys, but that's because they used everyone. Obviously I wasn't seriously saying they should just intentionally lose today, but look at that usage chart -- Jax, Varland, Sands, and Theirlbar have all pitched 2 days in a row so are presumably down today, and Duran didn't exactly have a short outing. Hope Pablo goes really deep this afternoon, because it looks like only the dregs of the bullpen are even going to be available.

I know no one on the actual club would ever think like this, but after having used basically every pitcher on the roster yesterday, you could almost make an argument they should just punt today. Make the starter eat innings no matter how it's going, use the worst guys out the bp and make them go length, etc. Then everyone is rested up for tomorrow, you take 2/3 from Boston, then you get the final off day to reset everyone for the final push. It was great they came away with the win, but given how already stretched thin they are, taking that many wins to do it hurts.

On the one hand, I absolutely want someone to sign Hill so there's still at least one professional athlete older than me. On the other hand, it's probably best for the Twins to let the young guys get a run and see what we have -- even if we signed Hill, would anyone think he's in line to start a playoff game? It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to have someone to eat the many innings we still need to fill to get through the season, but I'm just not sure he's any better than the young guys right now, and he obviously doesn't have the long term upside.

Whoever had "late season offensive explosion for Christian Vasquez" in the betting pool needs to get to a casino asap! What a delightfully unexpected development, especially with Jeffers scuffling.

Twins 6, Guardians 3: Matt Wallner Conquers Apple TV+
JDubs replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Not sure if you had access to the game live or not, but during an in-game interview, Rocco noted that was 100% Willie doing that on his own. In the kind of tone that implied he wasn't super happy in the moment, but since it worked he wasn't going to complain.- 93 replies

These articles always feel a bit like talking out of both sides of the mouth. Why should the Twins trade Kepler? Because he's not hitting that well and his great second half last year seems to be a mirage. Why would teams trade for Kepler? He's a great hitter -- just look at his second half last year! If someone offered an impact bullpen arm for Kepler, I think we'd all make that trade in a second. Which means it would be a lopsided trade in our favor, so I'm not really sure why any other team would do it.

Come on, nearly every part of this sentence is wrong. The "mandate" to platoon is not a Rocco thing alone, it's clearly an organizational philosophy from the top to bottom. Also, the reason they platoon is because it works -- look at any left-handed hitter, unless they're a superstar, a league-average right-handed hitter is better than them against lefties. There is no evidence letting a lefty flail away against lefties leads to some magical development where they can suddenly hit left-handed pitching. Gleeman had a great article about this a few weeks back you should check out, platooning just makes the most sense.

What’s Left For Emmanuel Rodriguez at Wichita?
JDubs replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I love Jorge, but hopefully people can finally see that the trade made some serious sense. It was so frustrating in the early going to have so many idiots saying some variation of "they traded Jorge for an injured pitcher?!?" No, they traded him for a stud prospect, a decent reliever, and some guys, one of whom was an injury plagued 5th starter. It's obviously too early to call the trade a win, but considering that Jorge has so far produced -0.1 WAR and Emma is climbing up the prospect ranks (not to mention Julien holding down 2B pretty well), it certainly seems like Falvine might have known what they were doing.- 49 replies

It's weird how people discount pitchers traded for as part of the pipeline. Look at what Cleveland has done to get all of their great line of pitchers -- a bunch of them were not drafted by the organization. Pitching is pitching, it doesn't matter if it came via the draft or trade, both of them involve identifying arms you think are good and can work with and then getting them to new heights. Lopez is a great example of the pitching pipeline working exactly as it's supposed to -- identify a guy who's good but not great, work with him on a few tweaks, and now he's a damn ace. It's just bizarre to discount that as success since they didn't draft him.

Coming in to this series I joked the Twins should just keep rolling, sweep the Sox, and make it 10 in a row. Guess it was less a joke and more some prognostication.

Yup, it's against terrible teams, but 6 straight is 6 straight. I'm looking at it as them buying time -- Duran is due back soon, Correa not too long after that, and from all reports Royce is coming along nicely. If you can tread water around .500 until those guys come back, things should be a lot better with 3 of your best players back in the lineup.
