  1. Sanchez needs to be turned into a reliever, I'm not against pursuing him with that in mind. In our rotation? No way.
  2. I tend to agree. If you don't go for it now then when will we? Berrios, Odo and say Graterol will make about 23mil this season. The time is now to offer Cole 35mil and Wheeler 23mil. Higher if need be. Yes the payroll will be at 150mil. Next year 40mil can come off for Cruz, Rosario, Marwin and Odo. In a year a number of the prospects will be ready.
  3. Yes, I want to see Wheeler or someone comparable or better even signed. Then sign a Keuchel type or someone like Tehran for our #4 spot. I was responding to mikes comment about not much quality on non contenders. Means was one of the few that stood out to me. otherwise he's right on. I'd prefer we go the FA market first, then we have our farm kids for insurance against injury and or a poor performer, and for when Rosario and maybe Cron move on as replacements.
  4. Seems like Jake should have been able to do 4/64, or more. I'm hoping that these signings work to the Twins advantage. We still have our budget and some have used up a good chunk of theirs and the difference makers are still on the board.
  5. 4/64 I'm glad its not the Twins. Moose is a nice player but he's not a game changer. I'd like someone extraordinary, lets sign Gerrit Cole.
  6. The Orioles seem intent on tanking for the next 3 seasons or so. How about John Means? Make it a blockbuster and get Givens for the pen and Mancini to replace Cron. Or is Means too big of a risk in not being established enough yet?
  7. The FA environment is always the same. If not now at this point where our need is the greatest its ever been, then when?
  8. It will be interesting to see how he responds in 2020 after his recent ankle surgery.
  9. In regard to the three 3B listed in the original article, No No and No.
  10. Vogt is signing with Arizona. I would have liked him for the Twins. Maybe it will be Astudillo.
  11. See if Cron will play for his 2019 salary. Otherwise the FA market isn't great either. Thames and Moreland look like a couple of the better options. But would either be better than Cron? I don't see our own prospects as quite being ready yet so Cron might be our best option. As for Sano, I agree with another poster that said he is really a negative no matter where he is on the field. I for one don't like the thought of him being given 1B out of spring.
  12. I would agree on Chalmers. He doesn't get better with fewer reps. Keep him as an SP for now.
  13. A guy who is improving his defense. Rich Hill, undergoing surgery. Will miss opening day. A flyer sure. But we need to sign better and reliable ahead of him.
  14. Sounds like the Mariners could be shopping Omar Narvaez. Falvine should give him some due thought. One of the best sticks at C and bats LH. Defense isn't great but is improving. Narvaez would be a huge upgrade over the available FA's imo.
  15. All things being the same, I'd far rather have Kendrick. More versatile, far better hitter. Obvious power difference. But I read on traderumors that the Twins are looking into 3B. That would for sure rule out Kendrick as Sano would move to 1B.
  16. Rich Hill, sure. If we've already signed both Wheeler and Ryu. Otherwise we shouldn't even be discussing him. We need a backup C. Best ones would appear to be Avilla and Maldonando. Either way more time should be given to Garver. I don't expect Castro back since the role is backup and I suspect he may have higher aspirations than that. Clippard could be a solid uninspiring addition. If Cron is let go Kendrick would be very useful to add too.
  17. My point is you don't do a drastic overpay like Arraez, Kiriloff and Graterol for Bryant. You might consider Duran, Cellestino and Alcala. Guys we got in those deals. We weren't contending when we made those trades. So I can understand trading them for future use, which is why I thought we acquired those prospects. Not to sit on them and have a pretty farm ranking. As for Darvish, he has virtually no trade value right now. A Darvish for Blayne Enlow trade straight up would basically be an overpay on our part. If the Cubs were wanting to deal him they need to see if he can regain some value first if they were looking for any return back. The guy has done almost nothing since 2014 tbh.
  18. Ted, you failed to mention the Nick Anderson for Brian Schales trade of a year ago. How is that one working out for the Twins?
  19. I'm with what darius said earlier. Pressley and Escobar would have looked very good on the 2019 and 2020 open window Twins. The Dozier trade? They shot for the moon the year they were hired and missed and ended up with a maybe bench guy and Smeltzer. Smeltzer looked good to start with but was getting hit pretty hard at the end. Chalmers? He reminds me of the guy they Rule5 drafted from Miami a couple years back. I'm not too excited. I'm not saying these guys have done a bad job. They've been here 3 years now, it will take a couple more imo to see if what they are doing has worked. What Terry Ryan did must have worked since the present roster is mostly his.
  20. Hmmm, then maybe Rooker, Jax and Blankenhorn is plenty to offer........
  21. That's a solid proposal and I think you are correct on the quality. I don't think we're getting Gray for bench guys and a flamed out prospect like Romero. Pittsburgh got hosed. With Archer as well. That helps explain why they have a new GM.
  22. Why would Archer cost more than Gray? If I had a choice I'd easily go Gray. As I said Archer is intriguing. But the truth is lately he has flat out stunk.Just cuz the Pirates paid too much for him does not make him a better get. Pirates better keep Archer I guess and hope he's a world beater. If the Twins give up much more for him than they did for Odo there should be some major outrage.
  23. Archer intrigues me. What would he cost prospect wise? Would say Edwar Colina get it done? Or is that too much? Another off year for Archer and he'll make 9mil. It sounds like the Pirates might be in for a fire sale. It'd be interesting to see if a deal for Archer and Josh Bell could be reached.
  24. Us fans want to see some major moves the worst way, but this teams history would point otherwise. I also want to see a major splurge. But my hunch says it will be a resigning of Pineda, and internal for spot 5 and internal for Pineda while he serves the suspension. I could see them signing a guy for depth and insurance. Someone along the lines of Teheran or Roark if their markets are a little cold. Innings eaters. Falvey's biggest splurge was Castro at 3/24 and Addison Reed at 2/17 and the extensions to Polanco and Kepler. I'd love to see Cole or Wheeler or Ryu. But call me a skeptic until proven otherwise.
