    They indeed said they would. As they continue to bomb at acquiring these I suspect that Odorizzi and Pineda will go from stabilizers to the impacts that they promised.

    I am fine if they sign either Ryu or Bumgarner even if it is a big overpay, I'm just saying there are and were other guys I would have preferred for an overpay over them. But its not my decision, I'm just an onlooking fan. The chances of signing any of these FA's gets slimmer everyday anyway.

    Houston had 2 years to extend Cole and so would we have. If they had swung a deal there very possibly may never have been a 9/324. Pirates wanted Gordon in a deal for Cole and Falvine wouldn't do it. That's the bottom line. But yes I'm in the camp of not overpaying for Ryu or Bumgarner as they are a clear drop from the guys at the top, too many ????? with both imo. If I would have overpaid for someone it would have been Wheeler.

    Tanner Roark signing with Toronto. This is good as the Jays have been rumored to be in on these remaining SP's and Roark was one guy I was concerned could become a Twin against my wishes.

    In the 2010 off season Jayson Werth was an FA. One of the top ones. Washington gave him a 7/122 deal. It was considered at the time a quite hefty overpay and the last 3 years of the deal Werth really wasn't that good. certainly not warranting 21mil per. But the Nat's at that time needed to overpay to draw any elite players. No one wanted to play for Washington. But the saw their oppurtunity to contend was coming and the need to overpay to take advantage of it. I'm not saying to overpay on madbum or Ryu, I see issues with both and am leery of both. Of the guys that are left Rendon would be the one that I would do as the Nats did with Werth. Wheeler is the guy this season that I would have also overpaid on, who the Twins would have actually been able to compete for. Rendon might get another Cole or Stras deal in the end.

    Actually May and June are pretty nice here too. I more prefer that time of year since the weather is nice and we don't have much for bugs yet.

    I see Bumgarner resigning with the Giants before its over. Rendon to LAD. Ryu to LAA. Donaldson to Texas. Last and certainly least is Keuchal to CWS. Twins will resign the next Rickey Nolasco and trade for the next Delmon Young. But hey, we'll maintain that good old financial flexibility and a top 5 farm ranking.

    You are very much right on. We could have had Cole 2 years ago, but they wouldn't give up a return headlined by Gordon. Syndegaard should have been acquired for whoever it took. In the meantime we continue to watch prospects crash and burn. Gordon has went no where. Javier is now Rule 5 eligible and Gonsalves is now a Met. We seem to be obsessed here in Twins country of keeping a Top 5 Farm system instead of using some of them to get the needed piece. At this point I could care less if we get Bumgarner or Ryu. Neither are true difference makers anyway, so why pay 40% more than they should? Rendon is the only difference maker FA left and he will be a LAD or resign with the Nat's is my guess. Look for Michael Boyd to be our big off season get. Or maybe Rickey Nolasco, aka Julio Tehran.

    yep, 40mil AAV for 7 years and Cole works for a paltry 22mil that last season if he accepts the extra season. I'm more than happy to spend Jimmy's money. But it looks like tomj14 is willing to go past my offer.

    I'll up my offers. Ryu, 3/66 Bumgarner 4/80 I have Ryu getting the higher AAV as I'm more comfrotable with the shorter deal. I'm not going with longer deals for either. Cole I'll up to a 7/280 instead of an 8/280. On an 8 year I'll go 8/302. Here's the signings I actually predict we do: Tehran 2/25 and Wood 1/7 If our FO was really serious about a front end SP they would have went 5/125 on Wheeler. They knew full well that the 5/100 wasn't even close. You aren't getting the guy you want with less money and a lack of preference of where the player wants to play at.

    I think it all depends on not getting Ryu or Bumgarner. I don't think we get either. I agree with you that Keuchel is not an impact arm. I would be fine with him but he's not a whole lot better than Happ either at this point. Roark and Tehran are at the same level as Happ and I suspect will be signed for 12-14 mil per for 2 seasons. So if we could get a top prospect out of NYY that could be a possible chip to acquire a front end arm in the future then why not? Its not about helping NY its about helping us. We're not getting Cole regardless. I don't see this forthcoming until if or when NYY was to sign Cole.

    Yes. He is as good imo as the tier 3 guys that are on the market. His salary is going to be higher than those likely. I propose we pay all of Happ's salary, which is what NYY would most need. In return we get prospects. I'm asking for Deivi Garcia. If not Garcia work something out for one of their top 3 prospects or Clint Frazier. Since I doubt we get one of the top FA's we can get Happ and still be able to sign someone like Tehran or Wood.

    I could well see Wheeler's deal being called a major steal in 3-4 years.

    Interesting thoughts. I wonder what the cost is to take a prospect from draft day to the ML's? Royce Lewis for example. Bonus, training, coaching, etc. Not to mention lost revenue the team had by being bad so they could draft him in the first place. I'm not saying he cost along the lines of a mega Strasburg deal, but the costs all add up.

    I concur that I don't think we get either Bumgarner or Ryu. As for the best of the rest, Keuchel is a slight step back. If the Twins had a better infield D I would suggest turning our sights towards him. After him I would say that Tehran, Miley and Roark are the next tier. I have been predicting Tehran as our signing. Alex Wood is a guy I would like for our bounce back sign. imo the Phillies signing of Wheeler is going to turn out to be an utter bargain. The Twins own signing of Pineda might be the best signing of the off season thus far and Odo has to be second guessing his own decision. Giants are also in on Madbum now too.

    I think he is our only chance left. The 5/100 they made for Wheeler shows just how unserious they really are about opening Pohlad's vault.

    Ha, I hit the AAV right when I said we should go 6/210. I missed on the length though. My 8/280 for Cole looks like it will be on the light side. I have less and less confidence that we will get any of these remaining front end guys. 1 Cole and 2 second tiers to be divided by no less than 12-13 teams. Ryu will likely end up back with one of the LA's.

    Tyler Kinley claimed by the Rockies. Oh yeah, and that Strasburg deal. That means the Twins are set up to go after Cole then.

    Simba, one of the dominant catchers of his time. Along with Pudge Fisk, Thurman Munson and Johnny Bench. This was an era where a catcher was relied on to be able to hit above his weight. Congrats to Ted. I enjoyed him
