  1. What has made Astudillo popular? Could it be his .355 BA? This from a career .306 milb player. Could it be from the amazing plays he made as a C and a 3B? Could it be because he plays every play hard and with grit and determination? Could it be from his 0.8 WAR in a very short time of season for him? I'll take Astudillo for the reasons I mentioned over Adrianza, Cave, Gonzalez, Austin and Cron any day. Perhaps he's only a flash in the pan. But perhaps he is better than a number of other players vying for a spot on the team and playing time. I don't think he should be denied a spot just because he is "popular" either.
  2. Except that Adrianza is far better with the glove at SS.
  3. As someone mentioned in the other thread, what does this mean for Nick Gordon? How does the FO even feel about him at this point? Gordon is a prospect that I still have the highest hopes for.
  4. Left with a choice of those two I would keep Adrianza. Defense at SS should not be taken for granted. I also hope that Astudillo gets a fair shot and makes the team. I would keep him over one of Cron or Austin or Cave. Rosario Buxton Kepler Schoop Polanco Sano Castro Garver Cruz Gonzalez Astudillo Adrianza Cron or Austin
  5. Cron has the inside track for sure. He has cost 1.2 mil already and he is one of the FO's headline moves of the off season. Right along with Schoop behind Cruz. To me the FO does not look good at all if he is cut out of camp.
  6. 24 more guys like Willians and we'd be popping champaigne bottles in October. I have no doubt. What he adds to chemistry cannot be measured.
  7. Willians Astudillo should be on the team that goes north at the end of March. No doubt in my mind, he proved so last season. I don't care what Cron is getting paid or the loss of a mil if he doesn't make the team. Or that Austin is out of options. Willians makes the team better. Period.
  8. If Berrios would agree to either deal, I prefer option 2 from the teams standpoint, do it now. This is just under a 9M AAV. If he does put up a season like Nova or Severino that AAV would likely go to 12M AAV. Even if all he is is the Berrios of 17 and 18 then 9M is still a good deal for the team. There are some pretty bad SP who are making 8-10M. While they are at it get Gibson extended for 3/30. Again, some pretty bad SP who are making 10M per year. I would be OK with signing Odorizzi to a similar 3/30 deal, though I'm less excited about him. That would leave us needing only 2 SP for next season. That's however is doable.
  9. Either deal, roll the dice and do it. Just do it. Stands to reason Berrios would have a lower AAV than both Severino and Nola.
  10. Actually "wait and see" in regard to Sano and Buxton was what I read in a LEN III article in regard to Twins extensions. Do Hyoung Park also is saying close to the same thing in a present article about a Kyle Gibson possible extension on twinsdotcom. I may well be confused but I am merely going by what I have read.
  11. I have no desire to see a Harper,Cave, Garver OF. Buxton, Rosario, Harper, Yes. Let Max know that he will need a 1B's glove this year. Dump Cron instead. I value D too much. Kepler has a fair bit of 1B play in the minors. But I agree. A Harper or Machado under the present circumstance might be a long time before it is seen again.
  12. With both of these extensions the Twins essentially have most all of these players prime years. Keep them coming Falvine.
  13. I can't go back to the 60's to opine. But imo Hrbek was our best 1B since then. Hrbek was like a cat in stretching for low throws and no one in MLB was better at running down a foul pop down the line. My order would be: 1.Hrbek 2.Carew 3. Morneau 4. Mientkiewicz 5. Mauer I can't list Mauer higher since he transitioned from C and tbh the 1st half of his time at 1B he wasn't very good. But he did work at it I will give him that.
  14. I have no complaint on this extension, or the one to Polanco. I want to see more. Rosario and Berrios. I think the wait and see stance on Buxton and Sano is a mistake. Show the players you are willing to take a risk. If both received similiar deals to Kepler and Polanco it would hardly handcuff the team even if the players don't pan out. But if Sano and Buxton come through which we all hope then the extension prices will greatly increase. I don't see Kepler as being any less of a risk.
  15. Yeah, Polanco is not going to 3B. If Gordon pushes his way through as I think he will then Polanco at 5mil per is a very attractive trade piece.
  16. As far as Buxton goes, lets take a look at 2016-17. He played in 232 games. He amassed 7 WAR in that season and a half. So thats about a 4.5WAR per season. Even if he's the 2016 Buxton, a 3WAR player, if we had a 3WAR player for 5-6mil per season that is pure bargain. I say sign him and don't bat an eye. It's a risk well worth taking. If he can stay healthy he is still an STL player. Yes there will be times he's not hitting, it's the org's job to surround him with players that make up for those times.
  17. I see Gibson as either he is extended at somewhere around a 3/30-35 or he moves on. I don't see a QO in his future. QO is around 18 mil. He is set to make 8.125 in 2019, so I don't see why the team would QO him for 18mil unless he won 20 games and was a Cy finalist, maybe. But if he was the 2018 Gibson, no QO.
  18. For a guy who might be an AS 2B it would be a very good deal.
  19. But its great to wrap up Polanco longterm. And now Kepler. This is what should be happening. No way are we ever going to contend if the revolving door of the past isn't slammed shut. Lets sink or swim with these guys. Get Berrios down too and a couple of Rosario's FA years while we are at it. Don't stop there either, Gibson, Buxton and Sano too.
  20. Having Polanco signed long term can also make him a more valuable trade chip down the line too. Also you can't have too many good players and I for one still believe that Gordon is a good player and will be a good player in the future. We are now discarding Nick b/c of a bad stretch in AAA yet we herald Kiriloff as the next Votto b/c of one great season in A ball. Lets not forget that Nick already tore up AA last season.
  21. Is a .333/.381/.525 two month slash line good enough? Or are those go to AAA numbers?
  22. What made Nolan Ryan Nolan Ryan? What made him Great? It was his tremendous use of his lower half and the amazing strength that he had below the waist.Yes he had a great arm too. But he would have blown his arm out years before retirement had it not been for the strength of his lower body. Keep working on the lower body Brusdar.
  23. "Last year’s club was a good example of why one-year deals don’t typically work. There were a bunch of players with no connection to the club and very little team chemistry. Minnesota is never going to outspend other teams and I doubt many big-name free agents are identifying the Twins as an ideal destination for their talents." But yet they are repeating the same thing over again this season. We could be looking at 9-10 players on the OD roster who weren't on it last opening day. With all of the 1 year deals we have on hand now we could potentially be looking at the same scenario next season. When we won our WS's all those so many years ago it was due in large part b/c those guys knew each other like the back of their own hand. When does Falvine learn?
  24. The emphasis is on Berrios and Rosario with indications that Sano and Buxton are on the wait and see list.
  25. According to LEN 3: "The Twins are working to sign some of their young players to multiyear contracts and could announce some of those deals by the end of the week."
