    I get the complaint about strike 2. Strike 3 was borderline and you can’t take that chance. Now Gallo effed with the lineup because he doesn’t feel like doing what’s right for the team.

    Hard disagree at this stage in the season. Buxton's bat is practically useless, and I'm not swapping his bat in to replace Taylor's right now. With Buck's, everything below his hips always seems to be ready to succumb to injury, so maybe place him in LF where he (in theory) has less ground to cover and let Taylor stay in CF. This removes Gallo's whiffle ball bat from the lineup but right now that's a wash with Buck's, and it improves the defense in the OF.

    I had the regular ability to watch Taylor when he came up with the Nats and he flashed some of this power from time to time. This isn’t necessarily a surprise to see that he’s doing this, but it a little surprising to see the resurgence. What is not shocking are the stats that make him pretty consistent with a lot of the roster - a disproportionally high K rate. With the exception of Wallner, I would love to just see some contact hitting and gappers when the bases are loaded instead of swinging for the fences all the time.

    I firmly believe our pitchers wake up every morning and flip a coin to determine if they are going to be an asset or a liability.

    If we're desperate for some added power, and I mean extreme levels of desperate, then it could be used in a pinch. But the current catcher rotation is fine defensively, and Jeffers needs those off days.

    Its guys like these two that put a team in serious contention for the playoffs when supplementing the team's stars - they stay relatively healthy and are consistent in their performance. In the case of this year's team - they are part of the core reason why we're still in the hunt. If three players - Correa, Buxton, and Gallo (throw-in Kepler's first-half performance if you want, too)- had played up to their potential, we would be in a significantly different position than we are right now. I think I counted 27 losses this year where we lost by 1-2 runs. Assuming those players played to their potential I'm easily willing to bet half of those loses (lets round down to 13) become wins, and we're looking at a record of 73-43 today... which would be the best record in baseball.

    In hindsight the team should have put Buxton on the shelf early this season when it was apparent that whatever was bothering him was hampering performance at the plate. I don’t fault the team’s decision to give DH a try, but when that started to yield limited results over long stretches they should have called it a lost season. It was pointed out earlier in the thread that the team seems to be playing better without him, and at least since the all-star break I would have to agree with that assessment.

    So I step away for 4 hours and I come to back to see that the Twins have done... nothing... I know there's still ~90 minutes left, but this is disappointing. The FO will probably come out and say something like "well we feel we can win with the guys we have and we have confidence blah blah blah"... well, they've said that repeatedly since they showed up, and we still haven't won a playoff series.

    The last 2 decades haven't been kind to us, but what is different about this year is that we are statistically improbable to run into the Yankees this year. It would take a division-wide collapse in the East for NY to get in, and that alone should give everyone hope.

    This move doesn't make us buyers or sellers. I would like to know the Miami side of this trade - why were they OK with shipping Floro and acquiring Lopez. Regardless, what I'm excited about is that Floro doesn't seem to be prone to giving up HRs - he's allowed 2 all season in almost 40 innings of work. Given how the last few games have gone with our bullpen I feel that this is a significant concern that has just been addressed.

    Agree re: Pagan and Ortega, mostly. Disagree on Rocco - he had to have had input into the F/O either from himself and his staff. He wasn't the one making the signings but he's still an accomplice in this.

    I hate being negative but thats all I've got for Rocco after last night. For as much as this management loves to rely on stats I'm absolutely floored as to why Ortega was called in to take the 9th. He's a career ~4.0+ ERA guy... basically he's liable to give up a run every other inning of work. In his last appearance against CWS he pitched two scoreless innings... meaning he was statistically overdue to give up runs. Duran should have taken the mound, and if he had we're probably talking happily about how it would be nice to run away with a game soon instead of the walk-offs, just to have a night to relax.

    Hader would be interesting especially with the way the last couple games have gone in the 9th. If Duran can't be an every day closer then someone else with a resume of closing experience will be a huge get. Whether or not SD is going to be selling is the question to be answered this week. They are one bad week away from being buried in the WC hunt in the NL and it would take a miracle for them + calamities for every other franchise for them to make up enough ground to make the playoffs.

    If our 1-4 spots in the batting order stay the same (Correa, Julien, Kirilloff, Kepler) then I think the top half of the order can finally stay consistent for more than a week. Correa's 6-26 doesn't exactly scream success until you factor in the 4 BBs. As long as he can continue to get on base then that should hopefully setup success in the 2-4 spots in the order. Looking further down, I dont know how anyone but Jeffers could be in the 5-spot when he's behind the plate.

    Based on everything I’ve complained about this season I shouldn’t have anything to complain about for last night. The pitching staff had one bad inning and that made a huge difference. We scored 6 runs which should be enough to win most games at any point in the season. No complaints from me… However… with Julien hitting and Buxton not, there needs to be some switching. Buck needs to sit for a couple games, Julien needs to be in at DH, and keep switching Solano and Farmer between 3B/2B, and spell an outfielder a night and insert Wallner as a replacement. if the front office needs any better advice than that I’ll settle for a $400k salary through the remainder of the season as I audition for the role in ‘24.
