  1. I prefer patience, let's see what our young kids can do ...
  2. With so much uncertainty about 2021 season from both the virus and the union I would use next year to bring up all the minor leaguers I could to find out who can play and who can't with the aim of filling any gaps for the 2022 season with money saved from the 2021 season. If you get lucky you might be able to pick up a bargain deal just before the 2021 season. NO way I would sign anyone until just before training camp. Watching all our promising players next year regardless of our record would be very entertaining and we watch baseball for it's entertainment value. It would be like watching Herbek, Gaettie and the crew when they came up to the majors many years ago ..
  3. Time for a youth movement. You can't underestimate the value of their low salary's. I'm fine with disposing of: Gonzalez, Rosie, Sano, Cave, Odorizzi, Romo .. As much as Cruz means to us if he insists on a two year deal I'm fine with replacing him with Rooker. I would trade Donaldson in a heartbeat if we could find a taker but I doubt anyone would. Vikings are going to have to tear down and rebuild. Will take 3 years. Twins can rebuild in 1 year. I'm ready to do that ..
  4. I think this article is littell about nothing. We should be talking about how they never gave Nick Anderson a bonafide shot in the majors with such a stellar minor league career. Not sure why anyone would trade for Littell when they wouldn't take him off waivers and as for Jake Reed, why is he even still here ..
  5. I agree with Top Gunn's assessment and that he added Rosario to the mix. It's more about not being able to afford Rosario in the future so might as well work that out now. Sano and Rosario are very stubborn, undisciplined players. I get irritated every time they do something stupid, particularly plate discipline. The signing of Donaldson has put a hamper on spending for quite a few years. he's beginning to look like damaged goods. I would trade him in a heartbeat but I doubt there would be any takers.
  6. We should have the best hitting catcher tandem in the league next year. Jeffers displayed raw power in his years in the minors so I expect him to hit a decent amount of HR's next year. Garver has been to consistent at the plate throughout his career not to think his bat won't return although I think 2019 was probably an anomaly in regards to home runs. Should be an exciting rookie of the year contest next year with all the talent coming up. A few have the potential to put in a bid for American League Rookie of the Year, not just the Twin ROTY.
  7. It takes mental discipline to succeed in the playoffs which Rosario and Sano do not have. Donaldson's salary along with low revenues in baseball suggest the Twins will not be able to afford them going forward anyway. Bring up the young guys, Jeffers, Krilloff, Lewis, Larnach and Rooker. This will solve the salary issues. Just put them on the team and trim accordingly. I'm fine with not signing Gonzalez, trading Rosario, Sano and possibly even Buxton if we can get a kings ransom for someone that could be an MVP if he could stay healthy. I believe Donaldson signing might go down as one of our worst signings ever if his chronic calf injury's get worse. Even if they don't I'm not sure he can give us the performance we need based on his aging. Need the young guys in there to push the veterans.
  8. I thought this article was going to be about which 2 catchers make the playoff roster.
  9. Rosario definity has his strengths but I do not enjoy his game. Whether throwing to the wrong base, lack of discipline at the plate or not taking directions on the base paths. It's just bad baseball. I wouldn't want my grandkid to watch his game and then go play little league. You can call it bad decisions but I call it lack of discipline but most of all, selfishness. Everything is about what's in it for Eddie. With Krilloff, Laurnich, Lewis and Rooker knocking at the door I say, let them in and show Eddie the way out .. Sorry, I have had enough ..
  10. Need to get our bats going
  11. Duffey looks the most confident when he takes the mound. As far as his hard hit percentage, you aren't hitting it hard when he strikes you out ..
  12. Got to admit I was wrong. As much as I like and have been following Jeffers in the minors I really didn't think he would get the call, but am thrilled he did. And what a start?
  13. The Twins will be very reluctant to start the arbitration clock on any of our quality young players in such a short season. But many will break the door down next year, second half of next year, if not sooner.
  14. I guess I applaud the fact you didn't do an article on how great Dobnik is and that he will become the ace of the staff, but come on. The guy proved everyone wrong as he moved through single A, AA, AAA before making the big league club last year pitching outstanding baseball the whole way. Now he has a phenomenal start to 2020. Keeps the ball down with incredible accuracy and movement on the ball resulting in ground balls and has the confidence to attack the hitters. Sounds like a recipe for success to me. As for pitching against the Yankees who doesn't have problems. But I prefer this to a puff piece.
  15. I have no problem adding a proven arm to the pen and a strong backup in the event Taylor doesn't snap out of it but what would it take in a trade and is this a rental as I'm sure there will be a hefty price put on the Boston pitcher next year. I'm not worried about starters because with the emergence of Dobnak and Pineda coming back August 31st and the fact you only need 3 or 4 starters max in the play-offs I think we are in good shape now.
  16. Question. Is the DL list different if it's before the season. In other words, Can Odorman come back when ready instead of waiting 15 days?
  17. Look, the players have refused to acknowledge that there will be no revenue from ticket sales and food sales for the owners. Their demands to get paid in full each game while the owners take it on the chin is ridiculous. The owners offered a 50/50 revenue share that would have shared the pain. If it's good for football why isn't it good for about half a baseball season. Besides, I'm sick and tired of the Twins making it to the playoffs only to get beat by a Yankee team that can spend twice the money on players. I think the owners should go ahead and close the facilities until baseball get's a salary cap just like other leagues. But make no mistake about it, once the players realize they are about to not get paid a penny, sometime next week they will scurry back to the table and accept the last offer realizing that 80% is better than nothing at all. If not, time to start getting ready for the Vikings season ..
  18. So now the owners say there will be no season. Once it sinks in that 80% was better than nothing the players are going to run back to the table. Just watch. And if they don't then that's fine, I'll just start preparing for the Vikings season. The players remind me of the monkey that tried to get nuts out of an old fashioned milk bottle. He wanted a full hand full but couldn't get his hand out of the bottle. Had he not been so greedy he could have taken a few out at a time and not starve but ... he starved.
  19. You are correct with your assessments but that's where using some of these players as trade bait comes in even it means trading some players ready for the majors or a selective one or two in the majors for high upside minor leaguers deeper in the minors.
  20. Everyone keeps saying we only have 4 draft picks but aren't the rest of the players up for free agency contracts. Who knows, we could have 40 players when it's all said and done ..
  21. Looks like we selected our DH of the future in the 1st round.
  22. The whole affair turns me off. As big a fan as I am pretty soon I'll have golf back, basketball back, college football and the NFL. And if the players don't get more realistic they will get paid nothing, zero, nada. Sorry, I never feel sorry for someone that shoots themselves in the foot. Major League players have way over valued their barganing hand. If they lose their entire salary this year they will, never, never get it back. Just like an emply airline seat when a plane takes off this season is close to taking off (flying away} and I'm not going to shed one tear .. Besides, I might never feel safe enough to go to a Minnesota sporting event again.
  23. I love the NFL draft and put together a sheet pre draft that lists the players I want and what round. There is a significant amount of study on my part but in baseball I just leave it up to the team. But once the pick is taken I follow all the Twins players through their mlb carrers, looking at every mlb (Twins) states every night before I go to bed. As for strategy you have done a good job of laying out the alternate strategies but I don't believe you go into the draft with one of these strategy's unless you are pick at the top of the draft and have a pretty good idea of the top players. Only until you know the players at your disposal at 27 will you have the opportunity to chose a strategy. At 27 if one player you really like slips too you simply take him. If mulitple players then the strategy begins. What I'm as much interested this year is picking up quality free agents and I would prefer we spent our money on quality over quantity as are minor league is already stacked. The sad part is we will not be able to follow their progress until next year ...
