  1. 7. No matter what it takes go after FA Wilson Ramos. He belongs here. THAT would take care of catching problem long-term. He's only about 4 years older than Murphy.
  2. What intrigues me about Kranson is that he also played 3B and 2B. A possible backup C and utility guy? I think about a Brandon Inge type.
  3. I knew that - I meant to say hired back by the A's. His previous experience in international operations, statistical analysis and scouting for the draft gives him an outstanding background. And working for the Cardinals organization is always a plus.
  4. Two years ago I said we needed to bring in Kantrovitz. He was great with St. Louis and now has 2 years with the A's under his belt. (I said this BEFORE he was hired by the A's.) He's blocked by Billy Beane and would be a major upgrade from either St. Peter or Ryan.
  5. At a minimum, relegate Jepsen to mop up guy. I'd rather give Meyer a legit chance in the bullpen. PS I hear Deunsing may be available mid May - just kidding, I'm not that desperate (yet).
  6. Has Nolasco done enough for someone to have an interest in trading for him? You know he will fall apart in the AL at some point this season.
  7. Personally I'd consider moving Mauer to RF (he's much more athletic and coming into the season had more experience in RF (1 game) than Sano, and move Sano to 1B. Getting rid of Fien is a must. He was pretty crummy the second half last year as well. I would also swap out JR Murphy for Hicks (John not Aaron, although undoing the swap has crossed my mind). O'Rourke will be gone when Perkins comes back.
  8. This year he's at best the 8th best option, maybe 9th best if Meyer would step up. By next year, he might be 13th best option behind the pitchers we already mentioned plus Jay, Gonsalves, and Stewart. Who's he trying to kid. When TR made this deal I felt it was a bust. He jumped in way too quick. NL pitchers always scare me. I still wish we had signed Kazmir and/or Garza instead.
  9. Let's add a few more to the list of guys that switched positions. Cuddy as mentioned drafted as a SS, but also played 3B, 2B and 1B before shifting to RF. How about Chuck Knoblauch who moved from SS to 2B to LF; Harmon who started out at 2B, moved to LF to 3B and 1B, Sir Rodney from 2B to 1B, Ernie Banks SS to 1B, Jackie Robinson played all through the infield. And let's not forget that Sano's manager knows a little about switching positions. He played SS with the Gophers, and with the Brewers went from 2B to 3B to LF to 1B before becoming a fulltime DH. Sano will be fine there for a couple of years before he moves back to 3B and eventually 1B.
  10. I prefer this "duller" red with the blue piping. This jersey would look good with the TC from the new alternate replacing the Minnie and Paul logo. Move the Minnie and Paul logo to the sleeve. If you want to add some gold that would be fine.
  11. I'm all on board with moving failed starters to the pen. See Hawkins, Aguilera, Guardado, Perkins, not to mention someone like Wade Davis. Maybe it doesn't always work, but it can't hurt to try.
  12. Sounds like the same size as Ryan O'Rourke - with about 4-5 MPH faster fast ball. At a minimum an upgrade there and probably Darnell as well. We still need to look for bullpen upgrades.
  13. If Weiters goes to the Nats as predicted in MLB Trade Rumors, add Ramos as a potential reunion.
  14. If you're thinking of trading Dozier, think out of the box - Plouffe to 2B. With Polonco as a backup option.
  15. How were years calculated? Why does Al Newman show only 1 season. He's one of 7 guys to play on the 2 world champions. He played 5 years for the Twins. Nick Punto played for 7 years with the Twinks, not 3. Eddie G played with the Twins for over a decade, not 3 years. Maybe we need to recalculate. I'm sure there are other errors as well. That was just a brief browsing.
  16. My question is how many Aces have the Twins had in their history? With a tip of the hat to franchise #1 Ace - Walter Johnson, in the MINNESOTA Twins 50+ year history I would say 1, Johan Santana. Frankie V was very close, he was certainly a #1, which I differentiate from an Ace. Radke, Kaat, Blyleven, Pascual, Perry, even Morris were good to very good pitchers, but none, yes none, were true Aces. I also don't see an Ace in the pipeline. If Barrios could turn into Pedro Martinez, that would be great. I do see some good to very good pitchers, and one could have an Ace-type season. I would say Kaat had that type of season in '66 and Viola in '88 and Perry in '70, so good pitchers can have great seasons. Consistent Aces are difficult to find. Gray is not yet an Ace in my opinion.
  17. According to both Mike Berardino and MLB Trade Rumors, Twins have signed 24 YO Joe Maloney from the independent Rockland Boulders of the CanAm League. The versatile Maloney plays 1B, OF and C. He is compared to Chris Colabello. He hit 17 and 14 HR's in '14 and '15. His slash lines the last 2 years were .271/.347/.498 and .337/.432/.559. Could this be a right-handed replacement for Chris Herrmann with more power? He's expected to start at AA Chattanooga. Colabello strikes out less, but Maloney is a better athlete.
  18. Now Gardy is interviewing with the Pads in SD. PS if he takes Vavra with him, it opens the door for Dougy Baseball to get to the bigs as a coach or maybe even a way to open the door for Torii to stay with the team in a capacity other than player.
  19. NOW he's a free agent, and Texas isn't on the hook for his salary. He IS controllable through next season.
  20. I'd take a flyer on him. He's only 27, controllable through next year. Maybe Allen and Guardado can find his flaws and straighten him out. He's a low risk, high reward kind of guy and we would only have to pay him major league minimum, because Texas is on the hook for his salary for this season.
  21. He certainly stays over Schafer and in my opinion over Robinson. OF should be Rosario, Buxton, Hunter and Hicks. And when we go to a 12 man pitching staff, Arcia (when healthy and hitting) as a fifth OF'er.
  22. Don't be silly. In that lineup, obviously Mauer is catching, Escobar at short, Vargas at 1B and Nunez the DH.
  23. The AL playoffs as of the morning of June 5 Wildcard: Tampa Bay at KC Wildcard winner at Houston Damn Yankees at Minnesota Just our luck. Let's hope that the Red Sox turn things around and leap into first place so the curse of the Yankees ends!
  24. He hasn't pitched since April. The starters are going deep enough into games so we don't need 13 pitchers. The only pitchers not used since Stauffer came off the DL are Stauffer and Graham, and Molly has already said that Graham is going nowhere. When Fien is ready to come back, we need to DFA Stauffer and Duensing to get back to a 12-man staff.
