  1. Now trade either Martin or Lewis for Montas.
  2. I guess their grade goes from D+ to A. Totally unexpected.
  3. At this point, I would have to give the front office a D+ grade. And they only get the plus for getting Gray. No shortstop, no pitching depth, no reliable backup catcher, and no prospects for improvement. I never thought I’d say this, but bring back Terry Ryan.
  4. Sorry to say that with so many teams in on the A’s pitchers, we won’t have a shot there. With Big Mike out we’d better just bring up all the kids - Winder, SWR, Balazovic, etc.
  5. What’s the status here? Could we please get Big Mike signed before nothing’s left out there? Everyone in baseball is in the hunt for the A’s pitchers, which probably means we won’t get either. If Chi Chi Gonzolez is the best we can do, I’d feel safer with Pineda. We also need a shortstop ASAP.
  6. With all the money we’ve got available, why not sign Wilson Ramos. He’s the best catching option left and would be more valuable as a veteran catcher than Godoy.
  7. Okay here’s my dream for Twins moves to improve: First, sign Trevor Story for SS Trade: Kepler, Lewis, Varland, Enlow to Reds for Luis Castillo Trade: Arraez, Larnach, Dobnak, Stotman to A’s for Frankie Montas Trade: Sanchez, Woods-Richardson, Winder to TB for Tyler Glasnow (out for another year) Sign Wilson Ramos as backup catcher Sign OF’s Joc Pederson and Kevin Pillar Sign RP Collin McHugh That gives us our SS, an Ace in Castillo, a solid starter in Montas, a pair of OF’s to surround Buxton (who can also back him up replacing Kepler and Larnach), a reliable backup catcher, another nice piece for the bullpen, another potential ace in Glasnow for 2023. I would then use mostly Miranda at 3B, UTL INF in Gordon and Urshela, move Sano to DH and Kitilloff to 1B. Yes it’s a pipe dream, yes we give up a lot, but we get back a lot as well. Don’t know how it balances out on value. We might as well use some trade chips so we can take advantage of having signed Buxton and acquiring Gray and shedding payroll.
  8. The only thing that comes to mind is Kevin Costner in Draft Day. “Give me 5 minutes while I work things out.” There’s got to be a lot more to come. I like the idea of Story, but why not Correa instead? Arraez and Kepler or Sanchez and minor league prospect (maybe Lewis) to Reds for Castillo?
  9. He’ll be cut by June. Worse pickup than Happ was last year.
  10. Stotman is already on the 40-man.
  11. Watching tonight’s game on FS1 and the sound is fluctuating. That to me says it’s a problem with the Target Field sound system that should be looked into.
  12. Next three starters for the Saints are Shepard, Burrows and Ryan.
  13. True. 40 man spot open with DFA of Vincent.
  14. How about Stotman? He’s on the 40 man, Albers and Ryan are not. Duran is on IL.
  15. My provider is Comcast in St. Paul.
  16. Has anyone else noticed that the sound on Bally Sports constantly fades in and out. It’s not my tv, no other channels fade like this. It drives me crazy. I use my remote to change the sound levels, but it goes from way too loud to so quiet you can’t hear. I tried emailing them, but got no response. I’m hoping someone from the channel sees this and fixes the problem.
  17. Who came up with the ugly uniforms for tonight’s game? One of the things I always loved was having everyone in their team’s regular uniforms. It was unique to baseball. These uniforms are terrible. Go back to tradition.
  18. You have to remember that beyond the 26 man roster, teams will have a five man taxi squad for road games this season. These players will be able to work out with the team and go on the road as well. One must be a catcher and that’s where the turtle will start the season, probably along with a 14th pitcher. This squad will likely have veterans who don’t need to play regularly. Saw the Twins are interested in Danny Santana, he could be another choice for the squad. He’s got versatility.
  19. Does anyone remember when the Chicago White Sox under Tony LaRussa went long stretches in the eighties with an 8-man pitching staff? Not an 8-man rotation, but a pitching staff of 8 and 17 position players. 4-5 starters and 3-4 relievers (maybe one swing-guy). My how things have changed. Not that long ago that a 10-man pitching staff was the norm. That's the way Bert liked it.
  20. I proposed this a couple of years ago: Regular schedule to 154 games; expand to 32 teams, total 8 playoff teams from each league; 4 4-team divisions each league, 2 conferences each league - 2 divisions each; 2 wild cards each conference; wild card teams may come from same division, based on record (so possible for 3 teams from one division); Conference semi-finals, best of 3; division winners 2 home games; best record division winner plays worst record wild card; Conference Finals, best of 5; Division winners always take first priority for home field advantage, best records second priority (if division winners both eliminated); Championship series, best of 7, conference winner vs conference winner; World series as normal, best record has home field advantage.
  21. I was always a Ryan Lefebvre fan. He did a great job before leaving for KC. Start mixing him in and give Dick some time off. Ryan would be a great replacement down the line. We need a Halsey Hall type as well. Now those were the days - Ray Scott, Herb Carneal and Halsey Hall. (in their prime, of course).
  22. Shane Robinson signed with the Braves on a minor league deal. Wilson Ramos is a Met, not TB Ray
  23. The big question is will Rosy give his uniform number to Josh? Can't have two guys with the number 20.
  24. My guess is that our next starter will come via trade. The positive news about the reacquisitions of Odo, Pineda and Romo is that when we do acquire players, they love the clubhouse atmosphere, the coaching staff and front office and the metropolitan area (so much so that many move here when their career is over). These should be great tools for recruitment of free agents.
  25. One of my favorite trees was Chuck Knoblauch's. Knoblauch begat Eric Milton, Cristian Guzman, Brian Buchanan, and Danny Mota Milton begat Carlos Silva, Nick Punto and Bobby Korecky Buchanan begat Jason Bartlett Bartlett (w/Matt Garza) begat Delmon Young, Brendan Harris and Jason Pridie Young begat Lester Oliveros Harris (w/JJ Hardy) begat Jim Hoey So the total haul for Knoblauch included 2 starting pitchers - Milton (6 seasons), Silva (4 seasons); 2 starting shortstops - Guzman (6 seasons), Bartlett (4 seasons); Super Utility and starting 3rd Base - Punto (7 seasons); Utility IF - Harris (3 seasons); Starting Left Fielder - Young (4 seasons); 3 relief pitchers - Oliveros (2 seasons), Hoey and Korecky (1 season each) and 2 backup outfielders - Buchanan (2 seasons) and Pridie (1 season). Not a bad deal - it lasted almost 20 years.
