  1. No draft choice lost
  2. I also saw these items in MLBTR. One of them also mentioned Revere AND Howard. I think it's just Phillie beat writers trying to drum up a place to pawn them off. Just say NO!
  3. I haven't trusted Duensing with inherited runners in like 3 years. I'm not saying any of these will be better, but they can't be worse and will probably be cheaper. Theilbar, Olivaros, Achter, Dean, Z. Jones all from the organization. And from the outside Soriano (not cheap), Nick Masset, Bruce Chen, Stolmy Pimentel, Kevin Gregg, A Swarzak, (all available) scan the waiver wire.
  4. Now THIS is optimism! How refreshing.
  5. Now I'm not saying that Hunter is the end-all, be-all here, but if it was up to me, I'd ditch Schafer long before ditching Hunter. He's about as useful as an injured Mastroianni. Besides, yes the team could stand to make roster changes but we should also realize that after the first week of the season, this team is playing .640+ baseball. I'm not saying they will sustain that, but I also see positives from this team. We don't have players who can't play because of injury clogging up the roster. They're making changes quicker this year.
  6. Probably not at 5 and not available post second round, but looks like he's got good potential. Also may move to 1B, so catching skills in question.
  7. If he could hit a little better he could be the ultimate utility guy. You have to respect anyone who can play all the positions up the middle. It would also solve the problem of keeping a third catcher on the roster, just as Herrmann could this year (especially if they would play him a little at 3rd as well as 1B, OF and C). These are the kind of player who could make a good 25th man.
  8. What a shock, another ex-Twin signs with the Orioles! They just love our cast-offs.
  9. Per MLB Traderumors per Doogie Any speculation? Pitching? Centerfield?
  10. Sounds good - kinda like Garza for Young. In other words - mistake, mistake, mistake. Let's just keep Schafer for now. Average OF'ers can always be found on the waiver wire (see Fuld, Mastroianni and Schafer). Average or better pitching - not so much.
  11. May one ask by whom?
  12. Are we going to swing a trade with Houston for Deduno and why?
  13. Don't forget Chris Herrmann.
  14. Apparently Parmelee has now been outrighted to AAA. I assume this means he has once again cleared waivers and not chosen free agency, but I might be wrong.
  15. Twins signed RHP Tim Stauffer for $2.2M and outrighted Eric Fryer.
  16. Actually, they kept 3 LH relievers last year - Perkins, Duensing and Theilbar. All 3 are likely to be back, unless they trade Duensing. It's also unknown what they'll do with Milone.
  17. Yeah, weren't Nishi's numbers similar? I know he had just won a batting title. I think more due dillgence is needed before jumping in. I think we can run with Santana-Escobar-Dozier and save the money for something else.
  18. Ervin makes 41 on the roster. Time to guess who leaves?
  19. Who says he even makes the team? He's not on the 40-man roster and when you say other guys can do what he could do for less money - IF he's good enough to make the team he makes $22K over minimum otherwise it's a minor league deal.. He could pan out to be someone like Burton was when we first signed him.
  20. And considering he would cost a draft choice, I too would pass.
  21. Two guys I would take a chance on are Medlen and Beachy. Both are coming off TJ surgery and won't be ready until about June, but have great upside. Give a 2-year deal, with lots of incentives and back-loaded with an additional option year and they're young enough to bounce back. They would be a good risk and investment for the future. Maybe we could trade Nolasco when they are ready.
  22. Make Torii Hicks roommate starting in spring training. Strap him to Hicks, Buxton, Arcia,Kesler and Rosario so he can mentor them like Puck mentored him and like he mentored Denard and Revere. Yes, he can't play like he did at 28, but if he can light a fire in Hicks alone, it'll be worth at least $5M. Throw in 15 homers and 70 RBI's and the deal is worth it. I think he can still teach these kids a thing or two. Torii will be our first clubhouse leader since Cuddy left. It won't mean many wins this season, but look at him like Crash Davis, he's a $10M teacher.
  23. After the Donaldson trade, does Plouffe's value become any clearer? Gotta say this about Beane - he's not afraid to make a move, no matter how unpopular with the fans.
  24. I'm all-in - Happy Thanksgiving to one and all
  25. My biggest disappointment about this is not bringing Vavra back - I also expected him somewhere in the organization, It's that I expected an additional Hispanic/Latino presence. It would have been nice especially with Dave Martinez officially available. For bench coach I would have gone for him or Sandy Alomar, Jr. or one of the Hispanic/Latino managers from he WBC - Luis Sojo, Edwin Rodriguez, Eddie Perez, Roberto Kelly, Dennis Martinez or Tony Pena. To me, Rudy Hernandez alone just doesn't cut it. It does feel pretty 'old boys club' to me.
