  1. Should we start a drinking game today? So far Bert called Ellsbury Girardi and Dick called Dozier Jeter. Let's see if anyone can stay sober based on errors by these guys
  2. When a team can go over their allotment by over 500% and get a minor slap on the wrist, it's time to re-write the rule. The rules only account for overages over 25% and the infraction only punishes a team to no spending over $300K for two years. The allocation should be $0 spending for three years for each time you go over 100%, so 500% would be a 15 year penalty with no spending plus a major fine.
  3. Here's what they've spent so far: Nelson Gomez, IF $2.25MM (#2 Prospect) Wilkerman Garcia, SS $1.35MM (#14 Prospect) Dermis Garcia, SS $3.2MM (#1 Prospect) Miguel Flames, C $1MM (#25 Prospect) Juan De Leon, OF $??? (#5 Prospect) Hyo-Jun Park, SS $1.1MM (#13 Prospect) Jonathan Amundary, OF $1.5MM (#7 Prospect) Antonio Arias, OF $.8MM (#8 Prospect) That's 8 of the top 25 prospects (5 of the top 10) at over $11MM so far. Clearly the penalties are not nearly enough. The Yankees are expected to spend over $30MM with the 100% overage tax. It makes me sick. Maybe if the overage tax was 10,000% it would be fairer.
  4. Guess TR was wrong about the Yankees blowing by their $2.1931MM allocation. 5. Davis didn't want to come here, but we could have had Emilio Bonofacio for nothing (although he's out right now with a right oblique strain.) What sets Santana apart is that he is an ignitor. He was an excellent leadoff guy. The main talents that set him apart are his arm as a fielder, his lightning speed, and both his ability and willingness to steal bases (which Escobar lacks).
  6. Sorry, I was looking at last year's stats. I'd have no problem adding Rosario. He certainly couldn't hit worse than Hicks, could play CF and could spell Dozier at 2B as well. I like that idea. Then when Santana is ready to come back, you start him at SS.
  7. If I'm going off the 40-man (likely designating Florimon), I wouldn't go with Reimold, he's having a terrible year - there's a reason the Orioles DFA'd him. I would consider bringing up Wilkin Ramierez, at least he has CF experience. I would also consider Daniel Ortiz, although he looks a little overmatched so far at AAA.
  8. Phil Miller speculates that Mauer will be put on the DL today and wonders who will take his place. He said it could be an outfielder, mentioning an injured Max Kepler, Chris Colabello, who's been better of late, a hobbled Chris Herrmann and Aaron Hicks (batting .190 at NB). He then wonders if slugger Kennys Vargas could be brought up for a trial, on the heels of the Polanco recall. I'd give it a shot and if he does well, we'd be able to trade Kendrys at the trade deadline.
  9. A bone bruise is tough. I would make sure he can play before activating him, sending him for rehab first. That way, if he isn't quite ready, you can continue him on the DL without re-setting the clock. Let him rest during the ASG break, after a short rehab.
  10. Here's a listing of the unsigned: Round 18 - T J White; 3B; U of Nevada Round 20 - McCarthy Tatum; 3B; HS Round 25 - Taylor Hearn; LHP; JC Round 29 - Cameron Avila-Leeper; LHP HS Round 31 - Sam Hilliard; LHP; JC Round 32 - Orynn Veillon; RHP; HS Round 34 - Mike Baumann; RHP; HS (MN) Round 35 - Brad Mathiowetz; C; HS (MN) Round 36 - Kirvin Moesquit; SS; HS Round 39 - John Jones; C; HS Round 40 - Dalton Guthrie; SS; HS
  11. The bench looks a little better tonight as well - Escobar, Arcia and Fryer.
  12. Anyone else notice that in one weekend Polanco matched Florimon in doubles, triples and tripled his RBI total while spending most of the time on the bench?
  13. Sorry - It's Florimon once again.
  14. Anything on Curtiss yet?
  15. I say DFA him and activate Smalley or Carew. Either one would be more useful than him.
  16. I was the one who mentioned Polanco's one game and one catch in CF, but a little research has found another gem. I found another CF'er at a higher level on the Twins. Pedro Florimon also played a game at AA in CF and caught 2 balls in one game!!! I guess he can play another position besides SS. There's your backup.
  17. Sorry to see Florimon is starting over Polanco. If we're lucky Florimon will play his way off the 40-man this weekend.
  18. Now Polanco leads the team in OPS!!!! Edit: And I just made it to the big leagues - same day a Jorge!!
  19. Then maybe time to either lock or merge this thread?
  20. That is correct. They called him up from Visalia in 1981 and he never looked back.
  21. I guess Polanco is our backup CF'er as well. After all, he played one game there in 2011 and caught a ball.
  22. What's the injury to Pino? Is Polanco in California? Polanco will probably hit better than Florimon anyway.
  23. According to Twins site, they signed Tanner English on the 24th
