  1. Yes when we brought up Pino
  2. You mean Escobar back to short. Bernier makes sense, but either way who comes off the 40-man?
  3. Thought I'd start a thread to track this. What the heck do we do if he has to go on the DL? With Nunez and Plouffe out, that leaves only infielders Florimon and Escobar (and of course Dozier) and no backup in center. Losing Danny for 2 weeks would be disasterous.
  4. I'm hopin' May stays in the Twin Cities after the game (on the MLB roster). PS - TK will be happy, when he was filling in for Bert, he said he was hoping May and/or Meyer would be on his team. If May is ready, TK will know and advise the team.
  5. Correction: He's no longer a Buscher at third
  6. Before I just let Deduno go, I'd check with the Yankees. They are desperate for starters. They gave us Nunez for Sulbaran. Maybe we could get the rights to A-roid (LOL). They might have a useful piece in the minors for Deduno.
  7. They were bench guys 1B; corner OF; DH; PH, not utility guys, and my statement stands. Tovar: 8 years (as a Twin); 76 games SS; 178 - 3B; 185 - 2B; 281 - LF; 370 - CF; 127 - RF WAR 21.7; SB's - 35 - 1968, 45 - 1969, 30 - 1970; BA - .281; OPB - .335; OPS - .703; OPS+ - 100; Led League in Games Played 1967 - 164, Plate Appearances 1967 - 726, AB's 1967 - 649, Hits 1971 - 204, Doubles 1970 - 36, Triples 1970 - 13; 5 times in the top 25 in League MVP voting. He was an everyday player, but you could plug him in anywhere and count on good to excellent defense and ability to hit. He wasn't a power guy, but he was a spark plug. That my friend is the definition of utility. On my all-time Twins team, he is definitely at the head of the class as my utility player. By the way in 7 and 12 years as Twins, Larkin and Bush each had a total WAR of 1.6 each. I'll take Tovar over Larkin and Bush any time (even with their rings).
  8. I can't believe I'm going to say this, but it wouldn't surprise me if when Hicks is done rehabbing that they bring him up and send Arcia down instead of optioning Hicks.
  9. The bench is really weak right now - Florimon (who can't hit and plays only 1 position), Fryer (an adequate backup catcher), and an improving Parmelee. I miss Plouffe and Nunez.
  10. Before today's game (Sunday 6/22) Phil Miller indicated that the Twins were looking at cutting the bullpen down to 7 to add an extra bench player for this trip. Anyone hear anything about any changes?
  11. Yeah, at this point I'm just hoping their building up his value as trade bait.
  12. What about Matt Tolbert - 4 years, 103 2B, 64 3B, 51 SS, .230 BA, 3 HR, 17 SB, .607 OPS, 65 OPS+ (between Punto and Carroll). Best utility guy ever for the Twinks was Cesar Tovar IMHO, but he started quite a bit - CF, 2B and 3B. And of course the game where he played all 9 positions (and struck out Reggie Jackson!)
  13. Not that I want to claim him, but as a Scott, I have to stand up for the name - Scott Diamond, not Pat.
  14. The 3 guys I wanted to sign were Hughes, Kazmir and Garza. I never trusted Nolasco. How good a rotation would we have with those 3 plus Gibson and Coreia (and next year Meyer). Oh well maybe we can trade Nolasco at some point.
  15. Let's trade Santana will he's at his peak! LOL
  16. What ever happened to that video clip - I miss it
  17. I would propose a hybrid international draft, based on the Rule 4 draft. I would set up a 15 round draft using the draft order for Rule 4. I wouldn't use slot amounts, but amounts equal to the total similar to amounts for the Rule 4 draft. The difference would be that up to 5 teams could draft an individual allowing the international free agents to negotiate a contract with one of the 5 teams who drafted him. Then it would be impossible for a team like the Yankees to bid on 11 of the top 30 prospects. I would also allow teams to trade these picks for major or minor league players. I would consider allowing teams who didn't spend their entire allotment, to carry the unspent amount forward for up to three years. If unspent after 3 years, they would lose the money. (unlikely to happen as it would be the first amount spent the next year). It would allow you to follow a player when they were 14, trade up to acquire an earlier choice, and spend extra money to acquire them when they are of age. Just another option to the one that mike presented earlier.
  18. I was watching the game with the sound off and it said on the screen that Theilbar and Coreia were warming up. Is that right - is Coreia in the Bullpen?
  19. Here's MLB.Com's list of teams leading for the top 30 prospects by team and ranking: Yankees: 1,2,5,7,9,13,14,16,18,25,29 Rays: 3 Brewers: 4 Red Sox: 6,10 Mariners, 8 Blue Jays: 11 Rockies: 12,22 Phillies: 15 Twins: 17 Tigers: 19 Astros: 20,21,23 Royals: 24 White Sox: 26,28 Mets: 27 Padres: 30 Just a bit uneven. If Yankees sign 1/2 of those guys, they should be banned from signing any more for 10 years. I don't know what the penalty is for going over allotment, but it's not enough.
  20. We definitely need to sign him to a 2-year $12M deal - with at least 3 option years. The man is the definition of versatility.
  21. Nunez to DL - Pelfrey to 60-day answers the question just announced
  22. Have the Twins announced who is coming off the 25-man to make room for Pino? Also I assume Pelfrey to the 60-day DL. Or will they wait because it looks to be raining all day tomorrow?
  23. Or we could offer them Fryer - he's batting .600
  24. How about Dylan Bundy for starters?
  25. I assume that Pelfrey goes to the 60-Day, but who comes off the 25-man?
