  1. Twins placed Scott Diamond on wavers this PM according to Mike Bernadino
  2. The quote from MLB TradeRumors is: The Pirates have acquired Vance Worley from the Twins in exchange for cash considerations, the club announced. Are we sure that the that the Twins got money and didn't PAY the Pirates to take Worley off our hands? It's unclear from this statement. (I'm just kidding - okay?)
  3. Time has come and gone, I'm assuming he cleared and will be sent to Rochester.
  4. Please let this be the case. I just don't trust Duensing. The runs charged to Diamond last night belong to Duensing.
  5. I hope he has great success and we extend him beyond the three years. I would love to have a starting rotation in four years of Hughes, Meyer, Gibson, Stewart and one of our other young guns.
  6. What are we talking here as far as power goes? Last year Hicks couldn't hit a lick and still put 8 balls into the seats. He reminds me of a young Torii Hunter. I think he will turn it around, just as Torii did and be able to average 20-30 dingers a year while playing outstanding defense. Besides, they both have double vowels in their names.
  7. Ruesse, who's down in Ft. Meyers right now mentioned on his show that his front office sources would like to try to move Burton and Duensing. Anyone else hear this from any other sources?
  8. Gee I miss Bobby Darwin, Danny Ford and dare I say - Willie Norwood. We could really use a guy like Cesar Tovar again.
  9. Thank you!
  10. I'd like to watch the ST game tonight and I see it's on FSN+. Does anyone know the proper channel number in St. Paul on Comcast Basic Plus. When I do a search it doesn't come up except for HD. I'll be at work tonight but we don't get HD there Thanks to anyone who knows.
  11. If they go with 12 pitchers and they keep both Pinto and Herrmann, I'd be okay with 3 catchers as Herrmann can back up in the OF as well. I see he got some reps at 1B today. I'd love it if they gave him some time at 3B as well. If Herrmann as a bench guy could play C, OF, 1B and 3B as well as pinch hit, I'd be just fine with 3 options.
  12. Minor league deal ONLY. Besides, what would Gardy call him - Saundersy?
  13. You are correct sir. So he passed by Houston, Miami and the Chisox.
  14. Bonifacio has cleared waivers
  15. Twins today claimed Brooks Raley, a 26 YO lefty from the Cubs. I'm assuming he has to be put on the 40-man. He's done some starting and relieving, but I've never heard of the guy. Anyone have a scouting report? Did Rob Antony decide to make a move while TR is out?
  16. From the scouting report and video, he looks to be a JJ Hardy type of shortstop. He may not have elite range, but smart placement by the coaches (and I have every confidence that Molitor and Vavra can place him properly) should extend that range and with a plus arm, he should be fine at short. IMO he's a much better option than Drew. A shortstop with power would be a great addition, even next to another limited range player next to him at 3B (Sano). He's only 23 - about the same age as Santana, 1 year older than Goodrum and 2 years older than Polanco, none of whom are major league ready. If he is, in fact, major league ready you have to go all in to get him. Even if we do draft a shortstop like Trea Turner, Diaz would be great trade bait. But it would allow the Twins to not draft a shortstop, but a high upside HS pitcher in the draft. The only question would be, would Diaz have any interest in joining a rebuilding program, likely to lose 90+ games once again this season. My guess is if the Yankees want him to replace Jeter, they can out-muscle everyone to get him. The appeal of the Yankees, unfortunately, means that much.
  17. The contract was not received via arbitration, it was agreed to, to avoid arbitration. If a player is claimed through waivers, the claiming team is responsible for the player's contract. If the player clears waivers, and no one signs him, then KC pays a pro-rated amount. If he signs with another team as a free agent, they are free to renegotiate a contract for a lesser or greater amount and KC would be off the hook. Any way you slice it, the claiming or signing team would end up paying the bulk (if not all) of the contract.
  18. See http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/02/royals-designate-emilio-bonifacio-for-assignment.html Per MLBTraderumors - "Any team can now claim Bonifacio if they are willing to take on the entirety of his $3.5MM salary."
  19. Waiver & draft order - Houston, Miami, Chisox, Cubs & Twins. Bonifacio would have to get Albers' spot on the 40-man. If there is no claim, he becomes a free agent, can sign with anyone and they are free to negotiate a new contract (likely for less money). Which probably means if the Twins want him, he would have to be claimed by the Twins. Otherwise there could be a bidding war against guys like the Dodgers and Yanks.
  20. Bonifacio is now officially available to everyone. He's on unconditional release waivers as of today (the 10th). Anyone can claim him and just pay his salary of $3.5M. Claims will be resolved by reverse standings (in essence this year's draft order). No trade is necessary - just a claim.
  21. It hasn't happened because the Twins don't want to give up the 2nd round draft pick or pay his demands for a backup 1B and part-time DH. Oh, and for those questioning $3M for Bonifacio, that's Nick Punto money.
  22. He's seen very limited time at SS, mostly 2009-2011. Fewer than 100 games, and not a great fielder. Better at CF and 2B. I'd keep both him and Escobar.
  23. Not to mention 30 and 28 SB's the last 2 years in pretty limited action and 40 the year before in a full season.
  24. Joel Zumaya, late of the Tigers. And the flamethrower didn't get into a game, he blew out his arm warming up in the bullpen after having had two surgeries. He'd been out of baseball all of 2011 and was attempting to come back with the Twins in 2012.
  25. Bonifacio was DFA'd on Saturday by the Royals. As I recall his name was brought up before, but now that he's available I think we should take a look at him seriously. I think he's a much better alternative as a fourth outfielder (who can play all 3 spots and has the ability to play 2B, 3B and even SS in a pinch), than Mastro. He's got more versatility and probably better speed and the ability to steal a base and disrupt on the basepaths the way Mastro did two years ago. Mastro wasn't the ballplayer last year that he was before injury. I like Bonifacio's versatility and with a shallow bench having another switch hitter who is capable of filling in for long stretches is critical. He's a little spendy at a little over $3M, but we have the cash to spend and could pick him up cheap.
