  1. It seems to me we should should trade Kepler and Polanco for some high upside 16-18 year olds and then reinvest that money via free agency for pitching. I'd be swift and shrewd about doing it sooner than later.
  2. I really like this pitcher. If he is healthy the stuff was nasty. I like this signing. 1M with huge upside. Contrast that with Buxton's 100 Million Army Reserve contract where he plays 1 weekend per month. The Staumont signing seems like a reasonable risk. I'd also like them to offer 2 years to Brandon Woodruff and use year 1 as rehab and hope he would be ready for the playoffs. 2 years 20 million type of signing.
  3. How would trading for this kid help us win in the playoffs? Answer = It wouldn't. A big waste of prospect capital. If you are going to make a trade it has to be a guy that could win in the playoffs otherwise lets roll with the 6 or 7 guys that could be 4th or 5th starters we already have in our system. Is he better than Bailey Ober who got crushed. No!
  4. I have two gripes about Mauer. #1) He did not maximize his talent. He should have been working with strength trainers to develop his power. He was the King of Warning Track Fly Balls. #2) I don't think he ever won even one playoff game. Yes on Kirby Puckett for HOF but no on Joe Mauer. The only reason you would let him in the HOF is because he was a catcher and he stood out at that position. But points 1 and 2 and very valid.
  5. Yes, yes and yes. Give Severino the DH job. I'd also like to see Martin in CF.
  6. The only player I'd like to trade is Buxton. I'd trade him and his personal nurse to anyone who believes they could keep him on the field.
  7. So fun to watch tonight. Pablo was fantastic. This is the most complete team we have had since the 87 and 91 teams. Two front line starters and a really good closer. And more than that, but you get my point. I hope Sunny is ready to pitch and gem and then Joe Ryan will prove why he should of started game 1. Let's go Twins.
  8. Pablo Lopez will then be pitching on his normal four days rest for game 2
  9. I like the decision but I would not let the Astros lineup see him more than once. Maybe two or three innings and then move onto Paddock or Maeda. We have a lot of depth with those extra starters and I'd keep them guessing and not get locked in. In fact I would say two innings and onto the next guy.
  10. Royce Lewis is the top rookie all the way. He reminds me of Kirby Puckett in that he is just clutch and you expect him to do something awesome. On the opposite side, Jorge Polanco looked terrible and not ready for the moment. I'd go with Kyle Farmer in game 2 at 3rd base. Pablo Lopez was fantastic and let's hope Sonny Gray is ready to be lights out. We pitched well today. Nice game by Taylor in Center field as well.
  11. Bummer today. I’d still DFA Luplow and Gallo in favor of Austin Martin and Andrew Stevenson. Let’s at least add speed and athleticism to our lineup.
  12. The obvious would be to replace Luplow. There are two right handed hitting outfielders that would be an upgrade from Luplow. Renfoe or Grichuk. I think Matt Moore makes a lot of sense. Funderburk looked good but he has two innings of mlb experience. Lastly, Giolito is not pitching great but if Pete Maki could get him right that could be a legitimate 3rd starter. You could send down Cole Sands or Josh Winder and maybe move Maeda to the bullpen. I'd be aggressive if I were the Twins. There are a whole bunch of good players there and we don't have to give any prospects. I'd call this a gift from God. Of playoffs teams the Twins are in the 1st claim spot.
  13. Joe was great it just never translated to even 1 playoff win.
  14. Royce Lewis is the first Twins player that gives me the same vibe that Kirby Puckett did. He has that let me lead the way leadership quality about him and makes me believe he could help the Twins win a playoff game. As much as I loved Joe Mauer back in the day, he lacks this moxie quality that Royce Lewis brings. I sense something great is on the horizon.
  15. Also, Austin Martin is red hot the past 45 days or so. Austin Martin St. Paul Saints - AAA 2B/OF Martin is absolutely destroying AAA in August. He has a 1.097 OPS, a .479 on-base percentage, and maybe most importantly, four home runs.
  16. Also, Austin Martin is red hot the past 45 days or so.
  17. What about Andrew Stevenson. His is hitting .318 (10th highest in International League) with a .396 on base .pct. That in and by itself is worthy of a look instead of Michael Taylor. In addition, Stevenson has 42 stolen bases in 47 attempts. Plus he has hit 16 HR's. This kid was a top prospect in the National system and finally appears to be putting it all together. Why are the Twins not thinking about him?
  18. I would sign him. He fits in well, his contract would be reasonable and he could also pitch out of the bullpen like he did in LA. Maeda does not walk hitters and is dependable.
  19. I'd like to see Gallo get DFA'd and bring up Martin in 2023. I think Gallo would be overmatched in playoffs and we could use Martin in CF, utility infield and in pinch running situations to actually score.

    1. High heat

      High heat

Martin is getting hot with the bat would like to see him up in CF as well.
Doubt he is a Gallo replacement tho.  Gallo is filling 1B unless Julian moves there full time (which they have been unwilling to even try) or AK comes back healthy Gallo isn’t going anywhere now with Wallner going down he has even more playing time.

Martin might be a guy they bring up on August 30th for the 13th pitcher.  Then keep him on the new 28 man for September which would make him eligible in the playoffs if he performs well and stays hot in September.

  20. Castro has done well for us this year and give him credit. However, if we look over our shoulder to Saint Paul there is a guy really hitting the ball that would bring electric speed, athleticism that is badly missing on this current roster. I'm talking about Austin Martin. He is raking and could serve in a utility role or maybe just usurp Michael Taylor in CF. The home runs do not win playoff games. Elite pitchers rarely surrender the long ball. Martin draws walks and can steal basis. He has the feel of a Royce Lewis with pure athleticism. I think if he took CF and you get Kirilloff back at 1B now you have a really interesting lineup. Many guys in St. Paul we should be looking to as a resource. Stevenson is another interesting guy.
  21. Good player but he is part of that Twins collective who has never won a playoff game. He has a good legacy in the regular season so we'll leave it as that. Time to move on. I would have traded him at the deadline but the injuries understandably weakened that possibility.
  22. We passed on CF Corbin Carrol in the 2019 draft. He was the obvious pick and the highest rated pick on the board and I'm watching the draft at the time thinking oh wow we are going to land Carrol. Instead the Twins reached for Keoni Cavaco who was projected to go in the 2nd round. Corbin Carrol is hitting .276 average on Diamondbacks with .357 OBP with 21 HR's and 36 stolen basis. Meanwhile Cavaco is at high A Cedar Rapids hitting .176. That was such a reach. I think there needs to be some accountability. We also passed on Mike Trout for Kyle Gibson (even though Trout's relative played for Twins) and picked Kohl Stewart over Aaron Judge. I think the last two drafts have been good but we miss so bad sometimes.
  23. I had a car like Byron Buxton in the past. It looked nice in the driveway but it was always broke. The guy has had like 30 injuries. His hip, his knee, his hamstring etc. I think the hang nail is next. I'm not sure what bothers me more Byron Buxton or the Trevor Mahle trade. Byron Buxton sat on a wall Byron Buxton had a great fall All the Twins trainers and all the Twins men Couldn't put Byron Buxton together again.
  24. I think the Twins should promote from St. Paul. I do think a DFA of Gallo is justified. Williams is deserving and should be the guy I think. Albeit Andrew Stevenson although he is left handed brings speed and can steal bases and is really deserving plus might be a upgrade in CF. I think we need competition in CF.
