  1. My list would not include Kepler, even though he's the first one I'd like to move of the 5 you have listed. I think the way Miranda has hit the ball the last month he'd have to be on the list if you pick another hitter to replace Kepler. I actually think he's going to be better than Kirilloff. If you pick a pitcher then I go Duran. ............... 5.Duran/Miranda, 4.Buxton, 3.Polanco, 2.Arraez, 1.Ryan. I value a promising top starting pitcher more than a hitter. Buxton drops to #4 because he cannot stay healthy and is starting to look like a one dimensional hitter, (high HR and low BA).
  2. Was nice to come out of the 2 game set with Detroit on the plus side of both games. Had they lost 1 or both games with Buxton not being able to play it wouldn't have looked like a good decision to have him unavailable. As it turned out they didn't need him.
  3. If the Twins were out of the race for the division it wouldn't look bad but when they are in first place, bailing on the contract would definitely look bad.
  4. The more things change the more they stay the same....... ok nothing changed, my bad. First game of the 2nd half and Rocco proves he's learned nothing from the first half burning though 6 pitchers in 1 night. So what if Castro had 2 hits off of Ryan already. Odds are huge Ryan gets him out to end the 6th inning. Only at 86 pitches and hasn't pitched in 10 days there's was no reason to pull Ryan. Then only use Pagan to face 1 batter. Another moronic move. Correct pitcher usage would have been Ryan for 7, 1 pitcher in the 8th(Duffey) and 1 in the 9th(Duran). Over managing does not make you a good manager.
  5. With the injury to Lewis the Twins hands are tied to Correa for the rest of this season. It would be nice to get something in return for him in a trade but not only does that send a bad message to other Free Agents that would consider coming to the Twins organization, I doubt they would get much in return anyway since he can just opt out of his contract regardless of who he is playing for. Not many teams are going to trade much for a half a season player even if it is a Correa. I also don't see the club trading for much help by the deadline, maybe 1 or 2 bullpen arms and that will be it. They've got 7 starters in Ryan, Gray, Bundy, Smeltzer, Archer, Winder, Ober for the 2nd half and possibly Maeda to finish the season with 2 or 3 of them going to the bullpen depending on what they do by the deadline.
  6. Agree, all-star games are meaningless regardless of sport. Only reason why baseball made the home field advantage rule in the WS to the winner was to try to change that. It did nothing to entice fans to become more interested. Todays game is nothing like it was years ago. It has become boring. Starters have no incentive to pitch a complete game. Years ago a starter took pride in pitching a complete game now they're lucky to go 6 or 7 innings. That's what most high-school players do. Years ago hitters would hit to all fields and knew how to bunt. High-schoolers still do that. Most big-leaguers can't bunt and only try to pull the ball and hit a HR everytime. Maybe if all the fences in every ballpark were 450 feet away from home plate the real game of baseball would return. Seems to me if you want to watch a HR derby all you have to do is tune into any regular season game and watch as every batter swings for the fences.
  7. One thing to remember, the FO said this team would be "competitive" they didn't say they would be a "contender". So far, it looks like their plan is working. If they improve the club before the deadline then we can hope they maybe changed their plan.
  8. This team is in shambles and it's beyond belief they are still in 1st place. Any other division and they'd be in 3rd so I guess we can be thankful for that, but how does that give any of us hope going forward? The starters can't go more than 5 innings and that's only on a good day. The bullpen is imploding due to being overworked, understaffed with quality arms and no clear role given to any of them by the Manager who seems to change that role almost daily. The offense fires on about 2 cylinders out of 8 each day with no clear leader among them. Some of you seem to think there is hope for an upgrade before the deadline but where do you start and at what cost? The rotation, the bullpen, and the offense all need help, a spark, a difference maker. Don't see it happening. Instead I see the collapse continuing and them being sellers at the deadline, not buyers. Are we to really believe this team can compete if it reaches the playoffs? Not to worry, the current squad won't get there and I don't see the FO spending or trading to get what they need. It's just too much.
  9. Sano Who?
  10. Unless some trades are made before the deadline there's nothing to get excited about with this Twins team for the rest of this season. If they were in another divison they too would be under .500. I like watching the young players like Kirilloff, Miranda, Celestino, Larnach, Gordon, Winder, Ryan, Duran, Jax make major contributions but they are at least another season, maybe 2 from being what they need to be to become playoff worthy. Even if this team stays in 1st place and makes the playoffs this year I expect an early exit again.
  11. With Rocco there is no "standard" lineup. You should know that by now. His idea of "managing" is to change the lineup every day. Then some guys here wonder why there is no consistancy offensively. If you don't play pretty much every day with a feel for who is hitting in front of you and behind you in the lineup, every day, it can be difficult to be consistant. By the way, what's up with Buxton. He's looking more and more like a Sano. Not good!
  12. Ok so Winder was off a bit but he's been on more than off so we cut him some slack. Why is Kepler in the cleanup spot? He's been one of the least productive hitters this year and should be batting no higher that 7th. Polanco, Kirilloff, Gordon, Urshela all hitting better than Kepler but hitting behind him in the lineup. And the $35M man Correa is pretty good at hitting into double plays. He's got to be leading the team in that catagory. 6 hits, 3 runs, 10 left on base. Another game where the offense didn't show up again, so it's not just the pitching.
  13. Looks like you are selling the farm for a 1 year chance. Not usually a good move for any organization. I'd much rather see the Twins be sellers of some veterans and take on a full fledged youth movement. If that means punting the 2022 season then so be it. The roster right now can't compete with the Yankees or Astros and to get them there shows you would mortgage the future. Move Kepler, Sano, Urshela, Sanchez, Correa for more young talent and in 2023 let the young guys take over. c-Jeffers, 1b-Kirilloff/Arraez, 2b-Polanco/Arraez, 3b-Miranda/Arraez, ss-Lewis/Gordon, of-Larnach, Buxton, Celestino, Kirilloff, Gordon, Garlick, Contreras. Bring up Steer, Palacios, Wallner. Get a backup catcher and pitching for the veterans in trade to add to the likes of Gray, Ryan, Ober, Winder, Duran, Jax. Maeda and hopefully Alcala will be back and maybe Paddock will amount to something in 2023. Last and not least, get a manager that is willing to let his best players play every day.
  14. Hopefully he will be included in a package with a prospect or two for bullpen help before the trade deadline. Problem solved.
  15. Smeltzer was pretty stinky today. Jax could have went another inning but Rocco chooses to burn through another reliever, again for no apparent reason. Duffey continues to pitch decent when it doesn't matter. Duran takes his turn and lays an egg. Arraez got 1 at bat because Rocco doesn't believe in playing his best players. If you are a left-handed hitter going up against a lefty pitcher you can't hit. Even if you are currently the best hitter in the majors, so you sit the bench. Looks like a sweep for Texas with Bundy going Sunday. This team has no direction, no killer instinct, no consistancy. They play exactly like the way their Manager manages.....Wishy-washy.
  16. A good player, not a great player. #1. You got to be on the field regularly to even be considered great. Yes, one of the best defensive center-fielders in the game..... when he's on the field. If it is only half the time, (this year, even less in others) then he's not making as great of an impact defensively as you might think. #2. He's starting to remind me of Sano. Striking out too much, going for the HR. No. it's not rediculous to compare him to Sano when he starts to hit like Sano. The team got better when Sano went on the IR. Maybe someone should tell Buxton that.
  17. Can't narrow it down to 4 players. Lets do 8. Arraez, Buxton, Kirilloff, Lewis, Larnach, Ryan, Winder, Duran.
  18. This is a problem that happens WAY too often for this team to be successsful in the long run. When your Manager waits for the big hit and it doesn't come then you have to manufacture runs. Rocco doesn't know how to do that.
  19. Unless the offer is too good to refuse I keep him. First to go should be Sano and Kepler. Both are over-rated HR pull happy hitters that just don't produce often enough or consistant enough runs.
  20. No reason for this team to be tired. Rocco gives everyone more than enough days off. Once again Buxton doesn't play. Whatever happened to guys like Ripken Jr who played every day. Are today's players a bunch of wimps or are these guys really not that good? Maybe they need to take a look at their conditioning program if they are tired. Some of the guys in the lineup today that haven't played much lately were Polanco, Gordon, Garlick, Kirilloff, Celestino. Thinking they are tired is a poor excuse. Correa gets days off, Miranda is young and shouldn't have that problem. Only two guys that might be being overused are Sanchez and Kepler. Jeffers was hurt and Kepler is well, Kepler the over-rated. Twins were lucky to win the 2 games that they did, it should have and very easily could have been a sweep by the Orioles. This team just can't put it together. So Smeltzer gave up 3 runs...that shouldn't mean a demotion to the bullpen or AAA. If the bullpen and the offense do their job that should be good enough to win.
  21. The Twins have played 80 games to date and Buxton has only played in 60 of them. I know he has been nursing a sore knee but Rocco really needs to find a way to play him more. It doesn't look all that sore when he jumps and hops around the bases after hitting walk-off HR's.
  22. Maybe they can trade Sano to the Padres for a pitcher or two. If they have anyone left like Pagan and/or Paddock it might be close to and even trade. Seriously tho, I've been wanting him gone for 2 years now. Let him rehab in AAA and if a trade hasn't been worked out by the end of his rehab, DFA him. No big loss if another team takes him, and if they don't he can stay in AAA and then be available to be brought up in an emergency situation.
  23. If Pagan, Cotton and Thornburg pitch an inning each in the same game that's 3 innings total. Archer usually can handle 3 innings by himself.
  24. Twins need to make the change immediately moving Archer to the bullpen in a long relief role. He's had too many short starts to warrant him as a consistant starter for them going forward. Gray, Ryan, Bundy, Smeltzer, Winder need to be the starting 5 until Ober comes back and proves he's healthy. Say bye bye to Thornburg or Pagan or Cotton, take your pick, none of the 3 will be missed and give their innings to Archer.
  25. Reclamation projects very seldom if ever pay off, yet that is the Twins way. Funny how the FO saw the need to trade away their best reliever in Rogers for 2 pitchers that they didn't really need. Pagan definitely wasn't going to be better than Rogers and why did they think they needed Paddock? They already had Ober, Ryan, Bundy, and Archer with Smeltzer giving them a perfect spring and Winder showing he was ready also. That's 6 starters, no need to trade your best reliever for another one and definitely not for one that had health issues that, yes, they knew about. Should go down as one of the worst trades in Twins history. Thanks, to the ineptness of Falvine we have guys like Cotton, Pagan, and Thornburg, all cut from the same mold as Colome and Shoemaker, trying to get outs when it matters.
