    Ober was good enough. Urshela and Correa played a good overall game. Celestino should be considered as a backup in CF. Even if he isn't an offensive asset or is a liability on the bases, I like his defense. Miranda looks tired. Wallner needs to learn how to hit to all fields. He's too much like Kepler, pull and HR happy. Veteran guys that can't or barely do hit .200 like GSanchez, MKepler, JCave, KGarlick, SLeon need to be gone. Even if they belong in AAA. Why is BHamilton on the team? Only 3 SB since he was acquired on Aug 27th. Thought for sure his pinch running situation in the 8th would lead to a SB but he never tried. What was the point? Like "Mydaughterhastwins" said above, this team or the game in general as to what it is now, has become very difficult to watch. Maybe that is a clue as to why attendance was miserable this year. Us old fellas like the old style of baseball and aren't going to pay big prices to go watch a new style game, and the youngsters of today just aren't into baseball like we were.

    Wow, this team is a mess but I fully expect the FO telling the fans that the team will be "competitive" next season. We've heard that before and unfortunately St Peter doesn't realize broken records don't sell very well.

    It would be normal for this team if he loses the batting title because of it. Bad luck follows this team like the black plague. Then again, sometimes you get what you sow. like signing constantly injured players, (Buxton) to long-term contracts and trading for other injured players, but don't blame the FO for injuries becasue that's their excuse for losing. Bad fundamentals, bad coaching and bad managing had nothing to do with it.

    Same crap, different day. Good job motivating your team Rocco. I think it's ironic that the Twins scored there only 2 runs because of a Baddoo error, yes a former Twin.

    Rocco gave out more rest days than I can ever remember to his everyday players. Injuries and days on the IL were among the highest in all of baseball. I see little to suggest it helped prevent them.

    I'm the product here, so if they want my product, they just gotta come get it." Based on those comments it's very obvious the Twins have not tried to extend Correa with a longer term contract. If you wanted him at $35M and you know what you are doing as an organization wouldn't you have made an effort to sign him long-term already? Waiting for him to opt out and look at other offers signals to me that the Twins don't want him back. I can see both viewpoints. Yes, he's the best shortstop they have had in years. I'd like to see him return, but he's also expensive. If they can find a stop-gap guy to make it until Lewis or Brooks or Miller are ready then maybe the money would be better off spent elsewhere, like pitching. Maybe the stop-gap SS is already in house. I know, Gordon and Polanco and even Urshela have played SS. Yes, it's not at a high level. But with those 3 and Arraez and Miranda you would have a decent "hitting" infield even without adding someone new. I say, take the $35M and go get 2 pitchers, 1 for the rotation and 1 for the bullpen. Just make sure they are GOOD, YOUNG and HEALTHY.

    Rest does not make a player healthier or stronger. If you want a strong player at the end of the season, improve their conditioning. A runner does not finish a marathon by resting, he finishes it by conditioning his body to the length of the race.

    Miranda, Gordon, Ryan and Duran. Just want to see the young kids making it good. Hoping Jeffers, Kirilloff, Larnach, Lewis, Wallner, Martin, Brooks, Winder, Varland, SWR, Balazovic will join them shortly as difference makers. Wish they wouldn't have traded away Petty and a few others at the deadline for a futile effort to try to contend this year. A pitcher like Gray didn't put them into the playoffs and probably never will. Meantime trading away a talent like Petty for Grays stop-gap measure will cost the Twins in the future. Let's turn the page. I'm tired of watching the old core flounder through the season and then hear excuses why they weren't quite good enough. We've seen this regime for 6 years and outside of 1 good season in 2019 with a juiced ball which led to a collapse in the playoffs they have produced nothing outside of the young guys we are waiting for. It's time for their draft picks to materialize or move on from them as well.

    I wondered the same thing. I guess since the season is lost the "Plan" doesn't have to be used anymore.

    I would go so far as to say #3 is partly to blame on #1. If they wouldn't be signing broken players to begin with #3 might not be on the list. There biggest move during the off-season not named Correa was resigning the most injury prone player in a Twins uniform to a 7 year deal. Sometimes you get what you pay for.

    You were the one who said those 2 moves paid off handsomely. I just beg to differ. While I wasn't overly disappointed in Correa the value he brought to the team wasn't worth $35M. And I already touched on why Gray, at less than 120 innings for the season wasn't worth his weight in $$ either. If my expectations for those 2 players were unrealistic then your expectations of Buxton, Polanco, Kepler, Arraez and Jeffers were also. They gave us pretty much exactly what they have in the past. If you are to expect career years from them let's do the same for Gray and Correa.

    I don't understand the constant stream of articles praising some of the disappointing moves made by the FO. Trading your top pitching prospect for a veteran starting pitcher that didn't even throw 120 innings is not a handsome payoff. To me it's disappointing. Adding Correa was shocking and there is no doubt he made the team better but without a better plan for the pitching aspect that they put in place, adding him wasn't going to be the difference maker they needed. His salary would have been better used in acquiring GOOD pitching. As for the nucleus letting them down I disagree as well. I think the Twins got pretty much what they always did have and will have in Buxton, Arraez, Polanco, Kepler and Jeffers. Buxton play part-time true to form. Arraez hit .300 true to form. Kepler hit in the low .200's true to form. Jeffers hit a bit over .200 just like last year. Only Polanco's production was down from previous seasons and anyone could argue they got some or most of his lost production from Gordon. As for the other spots on the field Miranda easily replaced and probably added to lost production from Sano. Urshela filled in very well for replacing Donaldson. The only spot that was lost was left field due to Larnach and Kirilloff not coming through and they weren't considered the nucleus of the team. I've said it before and I'll say it again, If the FO doesn't start putting a priority on getting GOOD healthy pitchers instead of bringing in broken down washed up veterans this team will never make a serious run in the playoffs .... if they even get there.

If trading for injured players is shrewd then I guess you are correct. If setting a different lineup every day and pulling pitchers after twice through a lineup is running a clubhouse and making difficult decisions then I guess you are correct. Contrary to your statements IMO, the FO has done nothing shrewd and most any other GM tries to avoid what they seem to overlook and the manager doesn't know how to deviate from a plan regardless of the in-game situation so he is taking the easy way out.

    Never a big fan. His offensive skills have deteriorated to the point he's become a liability to the offense. If we are going to value defense at a corner outfield position over offense then there are guys like Celestino that can replace him for much less money. Is that what we really want? I'd say no. Time to trade him for a prospect or include him in a bigger package trade and move on. Unfortunately that is all he is worth.

    So Buxton is getting $9 million this year. Not a problem. Like so many here have pointed out, if he was a player that could stay healthy and play 150 games he'd be getting $30M. If you want to talk about someone getting over-paid - coincidently Sano also got paid $9M this year. In my opinion, the problem with Buxton is he is always going to be a liability health-wise. He's played one full season, 2017 in his 8 year career. Yes, he's the best centerfielder in the game when healthy but not all of his injuries happen when he's playing in CF. His last two, if I'm not mistaken, were a broken hand being hit by a pitch and now a knee from sliding into 2nd base. At this point you have to continue to play him in CF every chance you get and you keep playing him there until he can't walk because an injury is going to happen regardless of how much you baby him and rest him. Throw the "rest" days away and use him. If this season proved anything it's that "rest" days don't help prevent injuries. If he isn't healthy enough to play defense and he's at DH then he needs to go on the IL for as long as it takes to get healthy again. The DH is for a player that can hit but isn't very good at playing defense. It's not for injured players who can't play defense or can't hit because of an injury.

    I would have to disagree. Both Jeffers and Arraez have established themselves to be major league players that are important to the Twins going forward. Jeffers was headed towards a good 2nd half of the season before the broken thumb. He'll be just fine come 2023. Arraez has already proven he's one of the best hitters in the game. A second half slump of a .276 batting average is still respectable in todays game and still makes him one of, if not the best hitter on the team. As for Celestino, he's a good defensive player that should never be used as more than a 4th outfielder. With a broken Buxton every year the Twins need to find a better part-time center fielder to play when Buck is not. The FO has chosen to pay for a part-time Buck and need to adjust their "Plan" to account for it. Ober, Winder, Moran, and Larnach have the most to prove.

" Yes, We have seen poor fundamentals in the field by players and poor management such as, the lack of trying to manufacture runs. Rocco accepts not scoring if they can't do it the way they've done it in the past. (Bomba Squad) The acceptance of normalcy or less has become okay and that makes winning when it matters difficult to almost impossible.

    Absolutely a great article. There are a lot of things wrong with this organization that you enveloped. The two that I'd like to emphazise are,... winning when it matters and not having a problem with losing. I think those 2 are key to the culture that the Twins have fallen into. When you can't beat a team like the Yankees and then walk away thinking, well yeah, we lost, they're the Yankees, we weren't suppose to be able to beat them anyway, you have a major problem. Even before the injuries decimated this team, they could not beat a good team. Injuries are not an excuse for poor play, poor management decisions and just going out onto the field with an uninspired approach to playing. Sure, they go through the motions and play the game but playing with conviction and the desire to win every game just doesn't seem to be there, but rest assured that the FO and ownership will use the injury excuse to blame away another season instead of the real problem which you explained so perfectly.

    If Tingler was a problem in SD why is he with the Twins? Looks like another acquisition that this FO didn't do their homework on. As I previously posted in another topic page.... Toronto turned their season around this year AFTER they fired their Manager. Twins FO could have done the same thing but didn't. Kind of makes you realize they and Rocco are joined at the hip. Only way to change the Manager and Coaches looks to be a FO change as well. Does Pohlad have both the guts and brains to do it? Only time will tell.

    Not what I said. I said "some" of their young players. Miranda and now Wallner are both examples if you can't see clearly. Miranda did not make the team out of spring training even though he tore up AAA last season. Wallner would not be on the team if Kepler was not hurt. Guys like Sano and Kepler weren't performing and were only replaced because of injuries. Is Miranda more deserving to play than Sano? With his primary position being 3rd base, they had Donaldson blocking the way. Then they trade him away and refill it with Urshela. How is that committing to a deserving player and giving him a shot? Miranda is here and getting consistant at bats only because Sano is hurt. How about Wallner verses Kepler? It took way too long for them to bring him up while they lived with Keplers weak bat and hole in the middle of the lineup.

    Any prospect that has played well in the minors that they don't promote verses using veterans who don't perform. The only reason why some of them are playing on the major league roster is due to injuries. IT'S NOT DUE TO PERFORMANCE! Did you even read my post?
