Carlos Correa Trade Buzz Is Heating Up
rv78 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If neither Correa or Buxton aren't worth a top prospect then neither are worth what the Twins are paying them. Which I have touted all along for the past 3 years. There are a lot of posters here who think they are superstars worth every penny. Funny how the Twins and a lot of the fans think they are the best players on the team yet you say they aren't worth a top prospect or two in trade. Guess according to you then, it goes to show how bad this team really is. -
Carlos Correa Trade Buzz Is Heating Up
rv78 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
That's kind of the reason why he left after his first tenure with the Twins. 3rd place team in 2022 and he flew the coup looking for greener pastures. He'd likely do it again, especially knowing there is little chance for 2025 to be much better than 2024 was. -
When you said Milwaukee needed starting pitching and the Twins wanted to shed some salary I first thought of Paddack. No way I trade Ryan or Ober for Perkins and some other player. Paddack would make a whole lot more sense.

Carlos Correa Trade Buzz Is Heating Up
rv78 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm not improving the 2025 team. This team is going no where in 2025. I'm improving the team in 2026 or 2027 and beyond. Trading Correa and Buxton for top prospects to add to the young core already here or coming shortly makes the team better long term. Adding a top young arm and a top young SS, or 1B is where I'm looking. No reason why the Twins can't find a good young SS to add to the team and replace him with if Lee isn't good enough. Doesn't appear Keaschall or Culpepper will be good enough either at SS. The Astros did it. The Twins need to go that route as well. Buxtons replacement is in the minors already. E-Rod or Jenkins. It's a perfect time to go young at SS as well and find another good arm for the rotation. -
Carlos Correa Trade Buzz Is Heating Up
rv78 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
IMO Correa only delivered in his first season (2022) with the Twins, not first 2 seasons as you implied. 2023 was horrendous at the plate to a .230BA, .312 OBP and a league leading 30 GIDPs. He's been FAR from what the Twins were hoping and PAYING for. If the Yankees or Mets come calling and he's on board with either team, I trade for all I can get. Outside of 1 playoff series win he's brought nothing and the 1 year window they had hoped for with Lopez, Gray and Ryan is over. Limited Payroll has changed their whole approach and now they're caught stuck with a big contract and no way of improving the team anymore from the outside. It's time to commit to the young core coming up and see what they have. A total rebuild is NOT necessary if they get rid of the part-time dead wood that is holding this team back. Both Correa and Buxton need to go. -
And while Correa’s deal remains in its early years, it has the potential to anchor the lineup if he can stay on the field. It has more of a potential to hinder any improvement to the roster now and through the later years.

The team is slow for one reason. The FO went whole hog on the HomeRun theory. You don't need speed to trot around the bases after a dinger. Take a look at the prospects that are now on the major league roster. They've tried to make everyone of them a HomeRun hitter. Even Austin Martin, who struggle with the attempt and finally went back to his former ways of just trying to make good contact. When you draft for power, develop for power and ignore speed and defense you end up with the 2024 Twins. Then throw in the lack of confidence by the manager to play players everyday and let them get comfortable playing 1 position you get the 2024 Twins. With a 13 man position player roster, you don't need players to move around. You need 8 guys that can each play 1 position and only 5 that can sub off the bench. A backup catcher, 1 corner utility player, 1 middle infield utility player and 2 bench players for the outfield with 1 of the 5 covering the DH spot unless one of the main 8 fills in there to get a day off in the field. The Twins have a luxury in Castro who can play both infield and outfield. Rocco pretty much uses his players opposite of what he should, moving players into spots they aren't use to playing. Up and down the lineup only to satisfy his analytical matchup that is only good until the opposing team counters that with a different pitcher putting him at a disadvantage by having him pinch hitting too soon.

The Twins Should Trade for This Former Gold Glover
rv78 replied to Matthew Lenz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I would only be on board with him if the Twins found a way to keep Castro as well so they have their backup still on board for SS and CF. Donovan could be a Farmer replacement. I'd consider trading Julien for him and give Donovan the reins at 2nd base if Lee isn't going to be the starter there on opening day.. Unfortunately that trade doesn't free up payroll and only adds to it. Maybe they'd take a Paddack with Julien and the Cards could flip Paddack to another team for another prospect. -
I'm really tired of reading numbers that say a player provided this much value for the way he played when he played but don't take value away for every game that the player doesn't play. If Buxton provided $29.4M in value for the 102 games he played then he also cost the Twins $17.3M for the 60 games he didn't play. So his real value is $12.1M. ($29.4M/162Games=0.1814814 per game). Now add in the extra cost of rostering another player capable of playing CF when he is hurt, He's not even close to being worth what they are paying him. As for being healthy, we all know with Buck that can change by tomorrow.

Is José Miranda a Viable Primary First Baseman in 2025?
rv78 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Martin was better than Margot. Wallner was better than Gallo, This year, just about everyone was better than Farmer. Of the 4, Santana is the only one who might have been the better choice yet Miranda isn't given the chance to be an everyday 1B. So the Twins learned nothing about that possibility in 2024 for 2025 and beyond. Offensively he is just as capable of putting up 2024 Santana type numbers. Santana helped the Twins win.... ???? Nothing. Margot helped the Twins win... Nothing. Gallo helped the Twins win... Nothing. Adding 1 year veteran players to push a team over the hump is fine. I have no problem with that, but it's first going to take a solid core at the rest of the postitions to be in that situation and the Twins aren't anywhere close to that yet. The core is going to come from within. Adding veterans and pushing the young players back year after year gets you exactly where they are now. Nowhere, with little to no chance to win or be a serious contender. If you see it differently, then show me how what they have done in the 8 year period of the Falvine regime, that has gotten them anything to brag about. Breaking a playoff losing streak doesn't do it for me. Do you seriously see a Championship in the next 8 years with the way Falvey brings in washed up veterans and injured pitchers? Or the way Rocco manages lineups, pitchers, bullpens, games? It's a joke. -
Is José Miranda a Viable Primary First Baseman in 2025?
rv78 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If Miranda would get the same amount of playing time at 1B as Santana did in 2024 he could very easily be a 23 HR, 71 RBI guy at 1B. The only difference would be the defense. The scenario you present is not going to take the team to the next level. It will be rinse and repeat 2024. and we would be another season down the road, not knowing if Miranda is a viable option to play 1B every day. -
Is José Miranda a Viable Primary First Baseman in 2025?
rv78 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
You missed the point. I'm fine with them using a Julien or Miranda because they are players in-house. Stop spending money to bring in NEW players like Margots, Gallos, Santanas & Farmers. We have them already. -
Is José Miranda a Viable Primary First Baseman in 2025?
rv78 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The time is now for some serious thought on IF this team can make the leap to being a contender and not a pretender. In the 8 years under the Falvine regime they have been pretenders. If you look at the players at every fielding position you can make an argument that that specific player just isn't good enough, for some reason or another. Whether it is injury prone, defensive liability, can't hit consistantly or hit against the splits, strikes out too much, blah blah blah, we could go on and on.... Some of you might say Correa, but look at his last 2 seasons. Didn't hit worth a lick in 2023 and only played half a season in 2024. Buxton is an injury waiting to happen everytime he takes the field. Lewis is injury prone and completely fell apart down the stretch in 2024. Miranda isn't skilled enough to be considered a fulltime 3rd baseman, 1st baseman or any baseman. Julien looks to be a AAAA player. Lee hasn't played enough to know even remotely what you have there yet. Larnach and Wallner each have about 2 part-time seasons to look at and while they look to be solid they are streaky and not defensive standouts either. So where do you upgrade, IF that's even an option due to payroll? Are any of these players, quality wise, capable of helping this team get to the next level? Almost everyone is talked about on this site as a problem in one way or another. It is WAY past time to play the young guys consistantly everyday and see what you have. No more Margots, Gallos, Santanas, Farmers, ect, ect. That way has PROVEN not to work. Find out what you have and THEN make moves to correspond accordingly. If Miranda isn't capable of playing 1B, 3B or being a fulltime DH then trade him. The same can be said for any other young player on the major league roster. But first and foremost, the FO and Rocco have to quit trying to make these players be something that they are not, along with playing them where it is basically a new position.... Expecting them to learn the position, playing there.....part-time. They should only be using them where they KNOW it will work..... and they shouldn't be finding that out at the major league level. -
Minnesota Twins Arbitration Dilemma: Ryan Jeffers

I'm all for trading away our young core and signing those washed up veterans who have done so much for this team the past 2 years. -
Minnesota Twins Option Dilemma: Jorge Alcalá
rv78 replied to Matthew Lenz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
You answered your own question in your article. The Twins have plenty of right-handed relief options, yet he can be relied upon to effectively face left-handed batters. Then being one of the right-handed relief options, he's better suited to be on the team verses one of the other right-handed relief options that aren't as effective against left-handed batters. All this for $1.5M? No Brainer! The bigger question...... is Rocco going to pull his own head out of his rear-end and use him effectively in 1 inning roles, where he has shown to excel, like Jax and Duran? -
Offseason Status Update: The Long Winter Begins
rv78 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
First thing I'd do is ask Correa and Buxton which clubs they would waive their no trade clauses for. Second, I'd get on the phone 1 minute later and start negotiating with those clubs to see what I could get in return. This team is never going to go anywhere expecting 2 players that are either injured or performing under their abilities due to injury, to lead them to anything but disappointment. It hasn't happened in the last 3 years and it isn't going to happen going forward. Wake up Twins fans. Using young players via platoon per Rocco's management style and adding in washed up veterans has been tried enough. Is there anyone who really thinks Falvey is going to bring in players talented enough to make the changes needed if he has to work around the Correa, Buxton and Lopez contracts? Trying to do just that will only be a rinse and repeat of the last few seasons that have gotten this club little or nothing to be proud of or make fans happy about. If I can trade those 2 away along with Paddack, I've got $60M to spend on quality difference makers instead of $10 or $15M to spend on the same junk we've seen the last few off-seasons. Do we really want just more of the same or do we want to actually try something different that might lead to something better than what we've had and seen?- 72 replies

Minnesota Twins Arbitration Dilemma: Jhoan Durán
rv78 replied to Matthew Lenz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
#1. I don't trust Falvey to make a good deal based off of his needle last year. #2. Yes, they can roll it back again. Not adding payroll puts them in the position to do the same thing. I'd go so far as to say, they won't add 1 significant Free Agent and they won't trade for a difference maker either, because they can't afford it.... Thanks to the Correa contract. -
What "big deal" has he helped the team accomplish? If 1 playoff series win is a "big deal" then your goal for the team is set pretty low. His huge contract has limited any quality additions that the Twins really need and will stifle any future acquisitions as well.

The only "moves" it opened up were getting Correa and so far that hasn't been all that impressive, especially when you consider he was willing to leave the Twins after his first season for bigger money, which he would have gotten if not for the Giants and Mets backing out on him. tarheelsfan says Donaldson was not one for the young players to emulate. Is Correa's lack of committment to the Twins when he decided to leave after his first season something to emulate? Again, the ONLY reason he is a Twin is because of two other clubs deciding they didn't want him. Oh yeah, he's a proven cheater too. That's not a great role model for the young guys either. Kind of seems the Twins replaced one troublesome player with another.
