2. Managing Player Workloads: The grind of a 162-game season takes its toll, especially on veteran players. Platooning offers built-in rest days for players, keeping them fresh and reducing injury risk. Players like Carlos Correa and Byron Buxton bring immense value to the Twins, but injuries have sidelined them for parts of the last two seasons. Veteran players need rest days to avoid extended IL trips, and sitting the team’s stars against tough right-handed pitchers could help them manage their workload. HUH? 2 players that have probably missed the most time the last 2 seasons due to injuries that actually have SCHEDULED off days and you are saying they would benefit from sitting? Rest has never been proven to prevent injuries and Players like Correa and Buxton prove that.

3 Twins to Watch for Potential Regression in 2025
rv78 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
"Smart roster management and a deep bench could help the team weather any storms that come their way." Well, with Rocco providing the management and the over-use of the bench in 2024, platooning at every whim, we know how good this worked in 2024.- 41 replies

There is so much that can be read into this trade. As suggested, is this a footnote to a Vazquez trade? Even if he is a MiLB filler for the Yankees and Boston, Falvey probably sees him as a MLB backup. Afterall, the Twins are becoming just another AAAA team playing against the big boys that spend mega millions every year. That perrenial contender status that we were led to believe was their goal when Levine and Falvey were hired has become a thing of the past. You don't acquire a $30M shortstop and then abruptly cut payroll a year later. That's a sign of changing course back to being a pretender, not a contender. When you can't compete with the big market teams for marque players in MLB you try to improve your minor league teams. That way it looks like you are doing something, at least enough to maybe save your job.

Are Cubs and Twins a Good Match in a Willi Castro Trade?
rv78 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Then come up with a player from the Cubs that is worthy of a trade for Castro. That really shouldn't be too "tough". Most of the players in these articles seem to be from throwing darts at the other teams bench players or AAAA. Is that because they too have no faith in this FO to make good trades and are so use to the dumpster diving that those are the only players that are expected to be traded for? I have no problem with acquiring a player like Canario but common sense tells me you don't trade someone with Castro level talent for him.- 39 replies

Are Cubs and Twins a Good Match in a Willi Castro Trade?
rv78 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Is this a serious article or a joke? I'm not trading a full-time, play almost anywhere, MLB player like Castro for a 21 total games MLB player named Canario or any other 21 game MLB player. 21 games doesn't prove anything at the major-league level regardless of how good the numbers are. The last good player the Twins got in a trade was Pablo Lopez and it took their best player, Luis Arraez to bring him here. If I'm trading my best player again, then it has to bring someone equally as good in return. Canario for Castro is laughable.- 39 replies

Is Harrison Bader This Year’s Byron Buxton Insurance?

The problem with "safety nets" is that Rocco doesn't see or use them that way. Once on the roster, he sees them as an intregal part of his platoon strategy and the everyday player who needs to be playing everyday becomes a platoon player as well. I hate to say it but the "safety net" needs to be a AAA player that isn't part of Rocco's platoon strategy.

You definitely got the, fit right in with the Twins part correct with Laureano. He's had 1 good full season in his 7 year career. Exactly what the Twins look and hope for in a player. Which version will they get? His usual Oakland/Cleveland version or the Atlanta version. Odds say it'll be his Oakland/Cleveland version, which I'd pass on pretty quickly. As for France, you nailed the reason why he wouldn't be acquired by the Twins. He'll be too expensive. Adding either one really doesn't move the needle. I'd much rather see the players already on the roster get MORE playing time, not less.

Two Years In: Do the Twins Regret Signing Carlos Correa?
rv78 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm not a fan of Correa or the contract he was given. I think he is over-rated when you look beyond his defense. That being said, the only way signing him was NOT a mistake is if they keep adding QUALITY players that make the team better. In the last 2 seasons since he was signed they've added 1 quality player, Pablo Lopez. Sorry, but that is NOT being committed. If they are really serious about becoming a perrenial playoff contender, which they said was their "goal" it's going to take more. Either their hands are tied by the owners, or Falvey doesn't know what he is doing, or both. At this point, we won't really find out unless NEW owners are willing to spend the money to accomplish that goal. Otherwise it is a waste of time and money. -
Unless you are having a fire sale, you don't trade Ryan or Ober. If you are rebuilding or even just trying to improve incrementally, you build around them. Neither one is expensive. Both have potential for more upside and unless you find a cheaper option elsewhere that is just as good with MORE upside, losing either one would be a step backwards. Anymore foolish ideas?

The past has proven this FO doesn't act but instead reacts. Letting other teams dictate your moves based on what THEY do isn't going to make you a "contender" but instead a "pretender". Why would anyone who KNOWS what they need to become better wait for the leftovers, if you were really truely committed to building a consistantly competitive playoff caliber team? Their strategy this off-season won't change and it'll be another year of waiting for scraps. If they even bother to go after them. The only player that they could move to make room for improvements would be Correa and he won't be traded unless he's on board with it and a new buyer is too. They really made a big boo-boo doo-doo signing him. If you aren't going to commit to spending long-term to get better then you don't sign a player for multiple seasons for $30+M per year. To put it mildly, that's Major Brain Fog.

Trying to make baseball like other sports is just dumb and this idea goes way too far. If they really want to improve the game, do 2 things. 1.Start with payroll and make all teams stay between minimum and maximum limits. 2.Add a red light on the scoreboard. When the home-plate ump calls a pitch wrong, the red light comes on and the call gets reversed. It's simple, fair, and requires him to still do his job.

Three Risks of Moving Griffin Jax into a Starting Role
rv78 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
"Given Minnesota’s financial uncertainty due to declining television revenue and potential ownership changes, they likely won't have the flexibility to pursue big-name starting pitchers in free agency." FYI, the Twins never pursue big name starting pitchers in free agency. -
If I'm not mistaken, the list only goes back to 1990 when Baseball America started ranking prospects. Correct? Is that the "dawn of prospect histroy" as the article implies? You confuse many readers when you say "Minnesota Twins History" in your headline but don't take into account all Minnesota Twins in history. You also imply, "In the Target Field era". Which era are you covering? Sorry to say, but that is just sloppy journalism.

I don't understand the perception that every prospective Twins hitter has to have "power". The most frequent criticism leveled at Jenkins’ profile thus far in his pro career has been a lack of power production, Let's allow the hitter to be the type of hitter they are instead of making or even expecting all of them to be Home Run hitters. There's nothing wrong with being a hitter that hits into the gaps for singles and doubles and an occasional home run as long as they are productive. I'll take another Joe Mauer over a Miguel Sano.
-
Unfortunately that is the type of player that most of the young Twins are. Is Julien a good 2nd baseman? No. Is Miranda a good 3rd baseman? No. Kirilloff wasn't good at 1st or OF. Lewis isn't good enough to play SS and hasn't impressed at 3rd. He won't play 2nd. Looks like another guy at DH. How about Martin? Not good enough to play 2nd. Doesn't have the range or arm to play outfield. Larnach and Wallner are not great outfielders. Seeing a pattern here? Maybe part of the problem is trying to make them something they are not. That's another Falvine and Rocco mistake.

this looks like a sturdy bullpen foundation. If things break right, this should be a very solid bullpen with a narrow path of being one of the best in baseball. We were told last year that it WAS the best in baseball. I once again LOL.

"This department is being put into place by the Falvey-led administration to make sure there never needs to be right-sizing of their payroll ever again." It sounds like they feel they made a mistake increasing payroll in 2023, and since they had to downsize in 2024 they want to avoid that same scenario from happening again. So I take it then, this means they aren't going to spend additional payroll to "go for it" when the opportunity presents itself. Or in other words, they are going to continue to be cheap dumpster divers and hope the fans are too stupid to notice. UH, FYI..... that's not going to work.
-
Wallner is getting close. he's basically had 1 full season in the 3 years he's played at the major league level. I would argue that is not a "proven" major leaguer when it takes you 3 years to get to 160 games played. 64 innings for Festa with an ERA close to 5 and Mathews ERA above 6 don't do it for me. They've proven nothing. The article says, "viable big league starters" of which they are not.... yet.
-
Totally agree with bean5302 on this one. Of the 6 players you mentioned, only Ober has proven to be a viable major league starter. Wallner is getting there. Would be there or could be there if given consistant playing time. The other 4 not close. The growth from within is not impressive. Commitment to player health is very much in doubt with the number of injuries we see every year and data-driven-decision-making, which is a 4 word term for analytics, hasn't helped this team win anything significant. Internal options for depth and flexibility help keep costs down but it doesn't guarantee winning. I would also question if this team is really "competitive" like we have been led to believe. They seem to be more like "pretenders" not "contenders".

Carlos Correa Trade Buzz Is Heating Up

They are when you look at the number of Championships Correa has and will bring to Minnesota. 4 years from now it will still be zero. Just saying. -
Carlos Correa Trade Buzz Is Heating Up
rv78 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
On the contrary. It "means" a lot when you aren't even a winning ballclub when your most expensive player is actually playing. I will add that the Twins were 42-43 in Correa’s 85 starts. Then they were 40-37 without him. Yep, he's really important. LOL!
