    This year there was a giant hole at SS for the most important part of the season even though they spent $33+M on it. Brilliant indeed!

    Spending doesn’t guarantee success, but as the Dodgers and Yankees remind us, not spending almost certainly guarantees failure. This sentence bears a lot of weight but spending on the "wrong" players also guarantees failure. With the likes of Gallo, Mahle, DeSclafani, Margot, Garlick, Archer, Bundy, Happ, Shoemaker, JLopez, Cotton, JSmith, Luplow, Keuchel, Paddack, Okert, JJackson, Tonkin, Richards, Dobnak, Duarte, Irvin, Topa, it's just too big of a list of non-difference makers to over-come. Add in players like Vazquez and Farmer, while contributing slightly, they too aren't difference makers. Wasting money is just as bad as not having money to spend, and this current FO has wasted a ton of money on washed up veterans, injured players and role-type players that none of, will ever make a difference.

    Santana was NOT a "successful" reliever his first 2 seasons with the Twins, unless you call OAVs of .302 and .292 with WHIPs of 1.81 and 1.51, along with ERAs of 6.49 and 4.74 successful. In his 3rd season they started using him as a starter and it is then that he started to excel. Totally different scenarios.

    Seems to be a lot of question marks for a team that is suppose to be a playoff contender. Even the veterans that are costing the team a ton of payroll can't be counted on. Couple that with the youngsters that haven't proven themselves able to be counted on either, either through poor performance or due to injury and there's only about 5 or 6 players on the whole team that anyone can feel comfortable with. In 2025, Falvey and Rocco better start getting a longer look at the young players, instead of bringing in washed up veterans, if this organization ever wants to get to the next level, or it will continue to be more of the same year after year.

    Can't recall 1 pitcher that was successful in the bullpen that the Twins moved to a starter role. I doubt they will start now.

    His innings would be replaced easily on the big league roster with Gary Gaetti.

    With the departures of Kepler and Margot they'll both be needed in the outfield.

    I never said a "horrid" defense. In 1987 and 1991 when the Twins were World Series Champs the Twins committed 98 and 101 errors respectively. That's not great defense. In 2024 they committed 70 errors. (Only the Braves and Diamondbacks were better). So the 3rd best defense in the league didn't even make the playoffs. Those who think they have to have great defensive players to make a difference are totally wrong. This years numbers prove that. I know that errors are just one aspect of defense but the difference is quite significant and it shows you don't have to be defensive oriented to win ball games. Pitching and Hitting are important and looking at those numbers one could argue they are MORE important.

    Who needs offense, when you SCORE MORE than the other team, all that does is win games.

    If Larnach and Wallner can get and keep the bats going, you can live with a bit less on defense. Let's not forget the primary reason for the teams failure down the stretch was offense, not defense. It's one thing to be strong defensively, but if it hinders you offensively it isn't going to help enough to matter.

    I totally agree. When they start beating good teams, we can start getting excited. Until then, ho hum. I think the biggest mistake for this offense was trading away their best hitter (Arraez). No one has come close to setting the table since he left.

    I think it's pretty comical that a team in this day and age, would struggle to find $6.2M to keep their MVP. I've said it before......... Over-paying for superduds (Correa and Buxton) that play part-time will cost you in more ways than one. The fact that anyone is trying to justify rostering Castro, is even remotely a problem, is a perfect example of the situation they have gotten themselves into. Or to put it another way, if Correa and Buxton would be able to do their jobs for an entire season you wouldn't need a super-sub like Castro in the first place. Then you'd only need that sub for 2nd and 3rd base, which aren't premium defensive positions that are hard to fill like SS and CF.

    Word going around is that Jax, who you think is the next heir-apparent to Duran and the closer role, wants to go back to being a starter, If that would happen then you can't, don't, shouldn't, trade Duran. Even though it is highly unlikely they convert Jax back to a starter, something the Twins just never do, I keep Duran. If we see his performance is slipping, everyone else does too, so the big haul you think he'll bring won't be anything close to what you hope for. On top of that I don't trust Falvey to get the players, or player needed to help this team in return.

    That "veteran leadership" that is lacking in BAL seems to be lacking in MIN too since they can't get over the top either. BUT WHOA........... it's not Correa or Buxtons fault. Maybe they should bring in a guy like Gallo? HA HA! You can't build around part-timers and expect good results. Besides they probably don't have $11M to spare for a .189 hitter to improve the offense.

    Ok, you win. the reason we got Correa was because we were willing to pay more, it wasn't because the Giants and Mets backed out. LOL! (If they wouldn't have backed out, he wouldn't be playing for the Twins, but you go ahead and believe in what you want). Drink some more kool-aid.

    Sure do. They backed out because of his health, not because of the amount of money they offered him.

    Seriously? You don't know that the Giants and Mets offered more to Correa than the Twins did and the ONLY reason why the Twins got him was because they both backed out. It wasn't because "Always remember... The reason we got Correa in the first place was because we were the team willing to pay more than others were willing to pay."

    Lewis, Lee, Castro, Farmer. All provided depth or could have at SS. It was probably one of the positions of more depth than any other position on the roster. If we are going to compare talent of that depth to the starter then which position is or was better equiped than SS. None. There isn't any that has proven depth. Not in the outfield or any of the infield spots. If you are going to base NOT trading a player based on depth then the Twins shouldn't trade anyone because they have no "proven" depth anywhere.

    The fact that Correa had to have a no trade clause and the fact that there would probably only be a couple teams (Yankees, Dodgers) that would take on his contract prove that the Twins over-paid for him. Throw in the fact that he has only had 2 seasons in his 10 year career where he played more than 140 games also shows he is not a player that can be relied on. Buxton is even worse. I highly doubt the Yankees or Dodgers would be interested in him or they would have out-bid the Twins when he was available to start with. They knew he wasn't worth that amount of money, so yes they could take on his contract, but won't. The Twins have made their bed for the next 4 years trying to build around 2 part-time players. If they are now in a financial bind that is no ones fault but their own. $73M tied to 3 players in 2025 with a $130M payroll is the reality they have to work with. If their prospects cannot hit, or play fundamental baseball, or sustain enough energy to play a full season, or play against opposite throwing pitchers (lefty-righty matchups), that is of their own making. This is their team. Can anyone here really call it successful? Sorry, I don't see it. If you are trying to win now, you don't bring in players like Gallo or Margot or pitchers like Mahle or DeSclafani or Jay Jackson. They seriously don't know what they are doing, and until they actually win something meaningful beyond 1 playoff series and then go in the opposite direction the following season, my mind won't change.

    At the end of the never ending day you must ask yourself WHY if you want to fix the problem. Why did the players under perform? If it is a lack of talent that is one thing that can't be fixed. Are we to believe that the players don't have the talent? Didn't seem that way earlier in the season. So it MUST be something else. If it is fundamentals or the WAY the Manager manages that CAN be fixed. Are we to believe that the players were exhausted and simply ran out of gas when most of them were platooned to death most of the season? That really doesn't equate into a common sense belief. That only leaves one aspect left to examine and that is team philosophy, chemistry, over-use of analytics, lack of confidence from the Manager and Coaches, poor fundamentals and unless the players aren't doing what they are told that squarely falls on the FO, Manager, and Coaches.

    I don't understand the mentality of thinking.... that he performed better than expected. Why did they accept him in a trade if they didn't think he'd be a decent pitcher? Is the goal,.. to fill the minors with Randy Dobnaks? If anything, one should be critical of the FO for bypassing him for a DeSclafani or Varland. Those two literally forced their hand to go with him when their obvious choice was someone else. How's that for evaluating talent? Can we say Gallo and Wallner? Same situation. Or Margot and Martin? Same thing again.
