  1. That would be cool if Duffy makes the Royals and has a good season. Best of luck to him.
  2. Because of the 40-man roster status, that is actually a pretty logical pecking order. But I liked this article and the variety of names mentioned, especially a dark horse like Culpepper, and as others noted, even Ohls. Plenty of intriguing arms in the system. I hope that let Raya loose a bit and stretch out his innings this coming season.
  3. If we can't find some pitchers soon, I may start wishing for the Twins to bring back the likes of Jharel Cotton and Chris Archer! And if we don't do something soon, that may be all that is left to choose from.
  4. Absolutely! I don't want to wait another 2 full months before the front office cobbles together a trade, and as you say, risk losing some of the better arms that are available.
  5. Hard pass on this guy.
  6. Not so sure, I don't think Farmer has that much value as a trade piece, but he's a very handy player to keep on the team. Versatile and has a very strong competitive edge that we need.
  7. As things stand, I'd say no. But a healthy full season of Buxton, Correa, and Lewis, combined with good performances from Julien, Wallner, Jeffers, and some combination of Kepler and/or Gordon (if either is still with the team in April) will be HUGE. That said, my main worry remains the starting pitching. Lots of potential to be good, but not great, And lots of potential to melt down too.
  8. Rodriquez signing for 4 years with Arizona for "about" 20 million per year. Don't think the Twins were in the mix for that one.
  9. Sorry to read that Andrew Bechtold signed with the Blue Jays. He was an intriguing player, especially after he started trying being a 2-way player. I still think he will wind up in the majors some day in some capacity.
  10. Good analysis. The Tigers seem to be a much improved team, combining the fruits of their farm system along with savvy trades and free agent signings. A few things surprised me: I had no idea who Jake Rogers was, or that he had hit 21 homers last year. I need to pay more attention to the box scores! I think Skubal is going to be a beast in their starting rotation, plus they also have ex-Twin Sawyer Gipson-Long, who could end up being in the rotation next season too.
  11. Diamond did indeed have a good run with the Twins for a few years, that very lean time when we didn't have much else in the starting rotation. I might have ranked Pressly a big higher. He had some good years with the Twins, and of course even better ones with Houston.
  12. I hope you are right about both Ober and Ryan. When they were throwing well earlier in the season, they both looked like legit rotation pieces. And I also still hold out hope for Varland in the rotation too. All in all, some positives to take from those arms. As for the bullpen, I agree in finding a bounce-back candidate, or converting a starter to a relief role. I also think that spending big money on a relief pitcher is a dodgy proposition most of the time.
  13. Weird, but interesting. Thanks for digging that stat up. Never would have guessed that he pitched that many innings last year for Atlanta, and quite effectively after such a long hiatus. Baseball: what a weirdly wonderful sport!
  14. I'm quite optimistic about our stable of young prospects, but as you noted, unless we get another REAL difference changer in the starting rotation for this coming season, we may not even be capable of winning the division again.
  15. That's one of the problems, He needs to, and is capable of, hitting MUCH higher than .235.
  16. If they front office has an actual plan, I'd be curious what it entails.
  17. I think Paddack is totally ready for a starting role in 2024. He's had sufficient recovery time from the TJ surgery, and everything I've read about him suggests that he is fired up and ready to prove his doubters wrong. Okay, I understand his track record, but he's still relatively young, and I think he's also very much motivated to put in some quality innings this coming year. That said, I think the Twins will be wary of him pitching TOO MANY innings in his first full year back. Another reason we still need a proven veteran in the rotation.
  18. As you said, I would certainly expect a couple of free agent signings like last year, when we acquired Farmer, Solano. Taylor and Castro (I realize some of these were by trade), and I also agree that we have a bunch of young players that are ready to step up and show their stuff. But just like last year, when injuries (Gordon and Miranda, and even Lewis) were a factor, I think we need the added depth of some veterans on the team too. I can't imagine how the team would have fared without Farmer, Solano, Taylor, and Castro. No All Stars in the bunch, but they proved to be very versatile and useful. I'd love to see the likes of Martin, Kiersey, and/or Prato come up and impress us, but I'm not counting on them all to produce at the same time.
  19. Absolutely. We can compete, but can we win as many games as last year, or even more? If that is going to happen, we need to add some quality arms, and do it well before spring training starts. Hopefully, we can get full healthy seasons from Paddack, Ober, and Varland, but that will only get us so far..
  20. I think both Varland and Festa may turn out to be good additions to the rotation, but I'd feel more confident with another veteran arm at the top of the rotation this coming season. With the way the current pitching staff is constructed I don't see us having another playoff run. But hey, it's still the first week in December. Hoping for some action this week.
  21. If the Twins want to compete for the post-season in the next year or two, they absolutely need to add another quality starting pitcher. Brooks Lee is a great prospect, and I think he's about ready for the jump to MLB, but I don't see a clear path for him with the Twins as things stand. I mean, which position will he play? He seems blocked by veterans at almost all key positions right now, so fitting him into the starting lineup will take some creativity and/or it will mean getting rid of someone else. So yes, I think the Twins should at least consider any offers for Brooks Lee. Hey, he could well become a Hall of Fame caliber player, and we could end up regretting that we moved him. but as we head into a new season I think we need pitching more than hitting, and he's one of our most valuable trade pieces.
  22. I was puzzled too. Maybe someone in the front office knew him from a previous team? But honestly, no idea of what sort of connection prompted that signing. Sounds like he might be based more in the DR to oversee operations there.
  23. Martin might also be able the handle CF, and Gordon has experience there too. That said, I'd still like a signing like Taylor again, just for insurance. That position aside, we urgently need to fill the holes in starting rotation and bullpen.
  24. I also don't know anything about some sort of "word behind the scenes" but Correa is obviously a serious competitor who wants to win NOW. I can't imagine he would be happy to see the Twins go into a cost-cutting off-season where they don't make any helpful additions to the team. Sure, it's still early, but I'm not seeing/hearing anything encouraging on our Twins grapevine. Trades? Signings? Wire Claims? Nothing happening yet.
  25. I sure wish that was the case! I mean, we are coming off one of our best seasons and certainly our best playoff run in years/decades, and now they are going to cut back on payroll? Sure, I understand the revenue stream dilemma, but the Twins are in a great position to COMPETE and go even further in the playoffs this coming season. But barring a couple of trades or productive FA signings, I see us taking a step backwards this coming season.
