  1. Sano's a nice 'problem' for this team to have. I agree with those that would like to see improvements in approach and recognition. I think small improvements would have a big impact. We have a lineup that affords the Twins the patience to see if that can happen. My wish (dream) is that Nelson Cruz likes to talk, and Miguel can get to a place where he can listen/learn. I like watching Sano. Shows a lot of joy for the game and his team-mates, IMO.
  2. Interesting article. But, IMO...with balls flying out of parks at ridiculous historical rates, you'd want to look at OPS+ (or wRC+)...not OPS. But, it's enough for me that they are the best in baseball so far in 2019. The offensive over-performance is due to almost all players having performed toward the top of their reasonable expectation/projection. Kepler, Polanco, Rosario, Cruz, Cron, Schoop, Garver, Castro, Buxton. That's 9 names. That just doesn't happen. Then you consider that the others...Gonzalez, Adrianza, Sano, Astudillo, etc...have all ranged between decent and good. Most experts thought the offense would be good...above league average overall...but, then this happened.
  3. I did...there was acknowledgment that the bases should have been loaded with nobody out...but not the usual outrage that we get when the call goes the other way. I’m firmly in the ‘let the umpires call the pitches, it’s not a big problem’ camp. But that was one of the worse calls on an extremely high leverage pitch that we’ll see all year.
  4. Thought for sure I’d be reading all kinds of pleas and arguments for electronic calling of balls and strikes. Guess not. Weird.
  5. Nice to hear encouraging comments on Lewis’s defense. And he’s striking out less recently, so there’s that. His name doesn’t come up much, but I would think Diaz has made himself a legitimate trading chip. After all, he was a pretty highly regarded hitting prospect prior to last season...and at age 22, he’s not an ‘old’ prospect yet. Even better if he can get to AA soon and be productive. If the Twins don’t trade him, it’s starting to look more possible that they could lose him via rule-5 (unless rostered).
  6. I don't know that there was a question there. But there was a question here....
  7. Kirilloff was eligible to come off the IL for today’s Pensacola game...but no. What is the injury? When is he expected back?
  8. Blankenhorn, Cabbage, Arraez, Diaz, Balazovic, Poppen, Smeltzer...not that hard to argue that it would be more fun this year to track the “2nd 20” prospects than the top 20.
  9. I think "integrity of the game" is fine (IMO), as long as playing fields are level. For those that equate the integrity of the game with the state of historical records...that ship left port before this year, with both home runs and strikeouts. Approach, ballparks, the baseball, etc. It doesn't bother me any more than it does to hear announcers drone on and on during NFL games about the amazing passing yards and receiving yards players x and y have. Just as meaningless, if not more so, than 2019 HR numbers in MLB. I tend to tune that out, and enjoy the competition of the game.
  10. Used to be the Twins private plane. Abandoned due to what were considered major mechanical issues at the time. Works great now, though. (but only joking because Papi is stable...good to see him get safe!)
  11. The thing Garver will be fighting between now and the game...he just hasn't played much. He's like 37th among major league catchers in games played. It's amazing that some of his counting stats do make it into the top 10 among catchers, but bottom of top 10. It would kind of be bitter sweet to see either Garver or Castro make it, while the other did not.
  12. 6-4 road trip against these three opponents is what we could have expected from a legitimately good team.
  13. Lots of speculation regarding second base depth without the mention of the player the Twins invested the number 5 overall pick in...and currently OPS’ing nearly .800 with our AAA club.
  14. Kirilloff’s injury disclosed yet? Isn’t it odd that a baseball injury is undisclosed? Do we know when he’ll be back? Surprising little chatter here for something that seems a bit out of the ordinary going on for the no. 2 prospect (and a top 10 overall).
  15. Jose Ramirez...off of back-to-back 3rd-place MVP years, isn't going to OPS .617 for the entire year. Even as injured as it is, the starting rotation is still decent and can get better if/when it gets more healthy. Their bullpen seems better than it's been...better than last year, certainly. The Indians can get to a point where they are better and more consistent. I don't think it matters...given the current standings...because the Twin's floor (if the starting rotation falters and further exposes the bullpen) still seems to be at least 'decent'. The wild card is that there are over 100 games to go in the season. A lot can happen in four months.
  16. Bad loss. Cleveland was in a desperate and almost hopeless position, and still they found a way to win the game (or the Twins found a way to lose it...whichever you prefer). It's the kind of bad loss, great win, that can have lingering effects, on both clubs IMO. We'll see. Hopefully, this thing for Carrasco is quickly controlled and remedied from the standpoint of his health.
  17. Fair. But at the least a bad headline/theme, here. I would buy lowered expectations (which isn't unique to Sano)...but not a narrative where his career arc is fading. He's not at any point yet established super-stardom and he might never. But he might be extremely useful...and he's doing fine for now. We'll see.
  18. Yes...it's just a matter of perspective. Felton had a very good arm...was a very high draft pick. It was really his control...it just didn't come around.
  19. Anyone that goes 0-16 has some bad luck that comes into play. But his career ERA was 5.53 (78 ERA+). He walked 87 in 138 innings. There’s a reason nobody gave him a chance to go 0-17. He was really bad. He got the leash he got based on his high draft status.
  20. Sometimes, it's the the luck of the draw in terms of what type of lineup the major-league team is fielding when you make it to the show. Rather than 0-16, if Felton had come up with the 2019 version of the Twins, it would have been different. Probably something like 1-15.
  21. I don't see this mentioned in the thread (could have missed it)... Yesterday shortstop Michael Davis was promoted from Cedar Rapids to Pensacola. Pensacola needed SS help in a major way...offensively, Jordon Gore has struggled mightily...and apparently, the Twins decided to send help all the way from low A, rather than move Lewis at this time. Could very well be that they see this as a temporary need. But I know a lot of in the community, including owners/contributors, saw a 'likely' move to AA for Lewis in June of this year. That seems in doubt.
  22. Promoted a SS to Pensacola. Michael Davis from Cedar Rapids. I'm guessing that wasn't the plan. Is this a concession to Lewis's struggles? That would make some sense. Although, I was wondering if they might have continued to shove him up...following the theory that the faster/harder he fails, the faster he makes the adjustments.
