But they still had the lead and he should have been given the opportunity to get out of the mess. Pulling your "#1" to go to the Twins BP is a fatal error in a game they could have easily won!

So why does his name coming up so often in trade situations? How long do we have before we lose him because his big pay day is coming up?

I guess the new fangled baseball isn't for old time fans who loved to see the same players everyday and also not really a fan of how soft they are becoming Soft so they can extend their careers or so the owners get their money's worth. Give me Mickey Mantel and Roger Maris any day!

They need to let the starters go longer and learn how to work themselves out of a jam.

This made me laugh "shown an inclination to spend" They may show it but rarely do it. Their inclination is to go dumpster diving and hope and pray.

4 Veteran Players the Twins Can Trade
MABB1959 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
They have the $$$ to get a player w/o trading anyone. They also should have the $$$ to make Correa an offer he can't resist even if they overpay for now. Sick and tired of them getting rid of players I enjoy watching.- 62 replies

4 Veteran Players the Twins Can Trade
MABB1959 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Stop with the trading and focus on keeping Correa and "buy" a #1-2 starter. With the money they saved by throwing away Berrios they can afford both and more. I don't have much excitement about Martin and Richardson. Both doing just okay if that in AA. Part of it is the wait and the other part is we are always waiting on prospects. Few have lived up to their ranking and usually shipped off before they are due to be paid. We have been waiting on prospects since 2010, Buxton is the only one that paid off. I still have a little faith in Sano but would like to see him go to a team that could help him and value him.- 62 replies

Isn't half of Buxton's value playing Center Field? It just gets so confusing.

How about give Kirloff the position he will spend his career? What the heck are they waiting for? We do this time and time again. Keep our top draft pics in the minors for as long as possible. Will they ever see a healthy Royce Lewis seems like that isn't going to happen. I follow most games and frankly have no idea where we see this team going. Buxton: New DH or Center Fielder? Who is our DH, why didn't they replace Nelson Cruz with a good strong DH? Correa: SS for this year and then who? What is Kirloff's planned long term position? Who else is here to stay Kepler, Polanco? Miranda is a 2nd baseman so why is he at first. Shouldn't we start to see some stability soon? Let's be done with the "journey men" and get our real team on the field and in their real position!

Checking In on the Players the Twins Moved on From
MABB1959 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
What about Berrios? He got off to a slow start but a much better pitcher than anyone we have. Throw out all the stats but he consistently pitches 7+ innings, is never on the IL, the team is 9-3 when he starts. The Twins had the money to spend even with Correa and Buxton. At least he is with a team that has a chance for the WS or at least a good play-off run. He is with a team that will spend the money and don't whine about it when he has a bad day. He is on a team where he is appreciated by the FO, manager and fans. So I am very happy for him and disgusted with the Twins letting the type of pitcher we are always longing for.- 20 replies

Three Reliever's That Could Work Into High Leverage
MABB1959 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Too bad they didn't keep a pitcher that is consistently healthy and typically gives 7 innings. They certainly have the $$$$ to keep him and still sign Correa and Buxton, Stats are interesting but don't paint the whole picture. He was the pitcher we have been waiting for since J Santana! This is the reason many good players do not want to come here knowing the ownership never intends on putting out a great team and are happy to sign players that may or may not have one last good year or trade away a blue chip player for prospects.- 17 replies

3 Observations from the Twins-Yankees Series
MABB1959 replied to Melissa Berman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Prince night was huge and the Yankees attract a larger crowd (many of those Yankee fans). Who doesn't want to see a bunch of All-Stars play at once. We are lucky to see ours play a whole week straight.- 20 replies

Somehow the MN Twins/MLB/Pohlad's need to figure out how to get the games televised. Yesterday's game was televised and I feel like I got to know and love Archer like I do Berrios. I understand stats and strategy, but I am more of a fan who likes to get to know the players and cheer for the team! That was really fun to watch.

Did you see his game against the Twins. Savants and stats are one thing. He is a very good starter that gives his team at least 7 innings. Have you read what his team thinks of him. Did you see this game " José Berríos’ fantastic outing in Saturday’s 12-3 win over the Twins, the gang’s now all here." "“We’ll have a chance to win every day,” Montoyo said. “You know what one thing is about Berríos? We’re actually 8-3 when he starts. Of course, he hasn’t been the most consistent, but today it was awesome to see him come back from that start in Anaheim and pitch like that. It’s huge and it’s good to see.”"

Good thing we don't have Berrios right? Wrong! We need him and need him bad. He is good for 7+ innings and would keep us from using the BP. Frankly I know nothing much about the rest of the starters. Hard to make any judgements when you can't watch them on TV (Not switching from DishTV for this team). I think tonight is finally I game I can watch.

We had our pitcher in Berrios and let him go. Yes his ERA is high but he is 4-2 and typically pitches 6-7 innings. We are always on the wish, hope and pray train and we we finally get a hope and pray we let him go and start this same conversation over. Over and over and over. Berrios is a great pitcher and the Blue Jay's management believes in him. "That Berríos is the man worthy of the seven-year, $131 million extension signed this past offseason." "If Berríos can use this outing to spring forward, the Blue Jays’ rotation will have a top three that ranks among the best in baseball."

Reviewing the José Berríos Trade
MABB1959 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree he is a good pitcher consistently in the line up and has one of the highest inning pitched. A record of 3-2 isn't horrible. He is in the AL East and just faced the Dodgers. Way too early to decide this year is going to be bad for him. I wish we had him, always will. He is what we wait for in a prospect. If you like to follow prospects this is the perfect team to do so.- 29 replies

Is it possible they are sitting Buxton so he won't hit the number of games or at bats to get to his incentives? I don't remember specifics, just that he needs a certain number of games or at bats to hit his max. They are not playing him to his potential (seriously DH'ing him when he is the star center fielder). Seems he is off at least every 3rd game? He can't get on a roll or hot streak like this IMO. All and all it is ridiculous. I won't buy tickets again because part of the fun of the game is to see him on the bases or making the great plays in center field. Just getting old that's all.

I hate that I cannot watch the games! IMO: Buxton should not sit home games. The crowd needs players to cheer for and get excited about.

Does this team not have...
MABB1959 commented on The Mad King's blog entry in Proclamations from the Mad King
The number of "injuries" have been growing for all teams. I don't think it takes much. They are more concerned about prolonging their careers than playing for now. With the huge contracts you have no choice. It is sad that it got to this point. Starting serious play at such young ages has changed too. I swear you have to declare your sport by the time you are 5 years old now. Then it goes all year long. Baseball was a summer game for kids it is much more than that and if you don't keep playing all year long you will most likely fall behind. This happens with all sports now. -
Last year was supposed to be "the year" we have all been waiting for until it wasn't. It felt like we were going back to re-building and in a month it could be back to that. Losing a key pitcher like Berrios and at the time wondering how long we would have Buxton made it even worse. Probably the most depressing/disastrous season in Twins history. I think we are not ready to get excited yet and if it happens he make get more positive comments and even manager of the year considerations. We as MN sports fans are always waiting for the rug to be pulled out from under us. I will only call 2022's Baldelli as a successful manager if he get's us past the 1st round of the play-offs. Again it is way too early to get excited or frustrated.
