Way too optimistic and highly unlikely. Don't get me wrong, I'm optimistic for the team's future. I think that the basic structure for a successful team is being formed in the minor leagues, but the scenario in the article is a pipe dream. I doubt Travis Harrison is up, some of these guys are probably going to flame out. None of these guys are guaranteed to come in right away and perform excellently, Aaron Hicks is an excellent example of how difficult the jump is. Arcia, who has played well, still has large holes in his game. I'm not a Terry Ryan hater, but are you really going to call him a "minor league guru?" Really?

 

It's fun to read, but it's basically MN Twins fanfiction.

Of course some of those guys will flame out, but several hopefully will not, and the twins will have 70 mil+ to "fill the holes" that is how you build a winner

I had no idea that Berios could touch 98 with his fastball. And that doesn't mention May either, who I still think there's good reason to hope for. I'll be interested in Sickel's view of the farm system this offseason. I think this system is heavy on B/B-/C+ type guys to go with the upper tier guys of Sano, Buxton, Meyer, Rosario, and Arcia.

 

While I don't think they are going to be a playoff team in 2015, I do think we may see a 2001 style run.

As for the next "Twins dynasty", they might want to shore up that whole "starting pitching" thing before they claim the Commissioner's Trophy.

 

i find it amusing he cites Moustakas as a failure when 3-4 years ago articles like this were rampant about the Royals.

Yeah, the first thing I thought was "what about the Royals?"

 

On the other hand, the Royals' offense would be creeping toward mediocrity if they had Wil Myers this season. His 125 OPS+ would go a long way in that lineup.

 

Any one prospect may wash out. The key is to have a bunch of them, like the Royals did and the Twins do. Accomplish that and you're probably going to field a pretty good team at some point.

It may just take awhile for everything to take hold. The Royals could continue to improve and start hitting for power like so many of their prospects were supposed to be able to do. It could just be a few years. That's why 2015 is a dream and a foolish one at that. The "Great Minnesota Turnaround" could happen then, but more than likel it will be in 2016/17.

That caught my eye as well.

Would Hicks really lead off a lineup like that? Why?

And Santana? Hmm...

 

 

And I have different hopes for May than as a closer.

We need him as a good #2 or at the least a #3 SP.

When you have a handful of high-upside players under 25 years old, I think mediocrity is just fine. The players may improve, they may not... But that's the nature of the game.

Sure, but in this context it falls far short of being a "dynasty" or any other grandiose pronouncement s like this one. Especially if we choose to use it as a way to pat the team on the back.

A big key to life is timing right?

 

Just like if the Twins get a new manager and the team improves it won't necessarily mean Gardy was incompetent.

That was all done within the constructs of a sophisticated organizational structure with full-time scouts out there on the front lines.

Harry S Truman disagrees with this statement.

 

The guy at the top gets the credit and the blame. That's just how it works. He's responsible for the hiring and firing of the people on the ground and anything they may or may not do.

Most people who have been leaders...or rather good leaders...understand they are responsible for everything that their people do. They are to blame for the mistakes and they are credited with the good stuff. The best leaders take all the blame and none of credit...they disperse the credit to their subordinates.

Because Ryan will get to keep his job based on how these players do......so if the best players (just an example) were not brought in under him, then I'd prefer he not keep his job. He needs to be judged on wheter or not the team produces players....and if they were actually brought in under someone else's leadership, I'd prefer he be judged on his time as a leader.......

 

and, just like being a fan of a team at all is irrational, so is my belief that people actually be judged on what they did, not what others did, and I agree with Brock, it is about leadership, not which individual scout did what.......

I didn't read the article but they certainly have a nice foundation to build on. Someone else pointed out that the Twins have 6 guys in mlb.com's top 100 prospects right now (Buxton, Sano, Meyer, Stewart, Rosario, Berrios). The other 4 teams in the AL central have 11 total. That's a good sign going forward.

 

And sure some of them won't pan out (in another post at the beginning of the year we looked at all the guys ranked in the BA top 100 and just under 20% of them were complete busts. But that would include taking the Joe Benson's into account). But players not ranked also will help out significantly. Guys like AJ, Baker, Koskie, Radke, Dozier etc were never ranked but became solid or better.
