you're just simply wrong. no ifs, ands or buts about it. you're just flat out wrong.

if your boss , that does basically nothing, is making hundreds of millions off of your labor, you're damn right the players deserve the money they get

Crazy. Even Derek Jeter when he was making 15 million for 3 years. total of 45 million called it. crazy money. so it's okay to have a ticket to see one ball game at $1,600? That's absurd. you remember George Bush had part ownership in the Texas rangers and he was on TV with the current commissioner when he worked for the New York Yankees and George was criticizing everything about the money that the stadium charged parking and sessions prices for tickets. he was part owner and couldn't stand it. No ball game is worth that kind of money. I was offered a seat at the 87 world series for $100. too much not doing it. why do you think it's worth why do you think a ball player is worth $70 million for one season? you know we have two people in the NFL and they only have 20 games to play. that makes $70 million to play 20 ball games. that's insane. why is it okay? you are being screwed whoever you are every time you go to a ball field and pay that big money to see a ball game. they're laughing at you all the way to the bank. these players with money like that. 1972, I paid $15 for a box seat behind home plate. 1967, I paid $4.50 for the same seat. inflation hardly goes up to where it is now. a loaf of bread would cost $50 if it did. it's absurd.

Do you believe all income should be capped ... say maximum $1M? $10M? What number? To be fair this would be for any type of compensation (salary, bonuses, stocks, property, et al) and would be across all people in the country. A true salary cap.  What is the number?

Where was the seat located? $100 in 1987 is the equivalent of $296.60 in 2026. Not counting the entertainment tax of watching a live sport today.

$1 million is more than enough for anybody to take care of himself and his family. how close do you come to that? or let's say for most people, how much do they need to? have a nice home. nice car. whatever does it take a million dollars to do that? The one drawback on my feelings on it is they can't do this as a career for 40 years. 20 years maximum. the average is about 5 years so that holds them up on whatever career they have the ability to do until they finish baseball. but if they play for 5 years, they're still going to make millions and they don't even need to work anymore. just invest it. do you think a guy who can play really good will work for that? well that's a going rate. the most money Harmon Killebrew made in the season was $110,000. he played Jim Kaat played for 13,000. Bert Blyleven played for 9,000. today I'm going to guess that's about 120,000 something like that.

So Elon Musk, among many others, goes down to $1M per year? Ok. Sounds good. Deficit is conquered.

if it's playoff time even I would pay $300 for a seat but that's regular season pricing if you close to the field. you see baseball the better seats. they started charging the prices of the NFL who has 10 home games. baseball has 81 home games. that's crazy money. they don't need that much money. what was the average price of a world series ticket? multiply that times. what is it? 50,000 people you know they are hoping for not just four games with money revenue like that. The finances of baseball is outrageously out of hand because there's no salary cap and it's going to be a really good deal for the players if they accept the salary cap which will be an outrageous amount of money. but most likely they'll be no baseball for a while. you got to hold your ground. if the players walk with the money they're making now, we should boycott the entire season once they start playing. we're not coming to see you. if you're not satisfied with the money we provide you with now, you're not worth that much money that you're paid now. so if you don't play, we don't come watch when you come back because you're already light years overpaid as it is. that proves they're not loyal to your city. they just want to take advantage of your pocketbook for the few that can't afford it. let's get real people. you're being beat down

you can't compare what musk does to a ball game. let's compare it then. if that's what you want to do, you know anybody that's had a heart transplant to stay alive. I do well, not personally somebody I very much look up to. I read his book. it was incredible. his name is rod Carew. you might know who I'm talking of. he gets a heart transplant and a kidney transplant the same day. how much is that worth? how much should the doctor and everybody in that operating room make from keeping Rodney alive? they do that because they know how they bring your loved one life. shouldn't they make more than a baseball player? I don't know but somebody that does that probably makes a half me in a year. that's my guess and a baseball player can live on that easily. I am so surprised that people think the right to see a game is good in these days. I was falling out of my chair so to speak that one guy who probably like most they definitely don't get paid enough. they should get paid even more. $70 million a year is not enough so how about when it gets to be 100 million for one season? how absurd is that? is it going to reach 500 million? how about 1 billion for one season? there's no way that anybody should enter a baseball stadium with the prices that the players make like it is. you the player are not here for us. you're here for where you get paid the most. there is no loyalty unless your name is like Joe Mauer and he took the home team discount at 23 million a season. that sound like a discount to you? pricing on the ball field started to get out of hand like the late 1980s. I don't remember what year was it that Kirby Puckett was paid? the first $6 million player came right out of Minnesota. That's unbelievable. money to play a game.

I asked a simple question. Where was the $100 seat location at the 1987 World Series?

He's a Boras client, you offer the QO and there's no way he accepts it. The free agent market for catchers is sparce so Boras will try to take advantage of it. I could see him taking a 3 year contract for 40m before he accepts 23m for 1 year.

People should remember that a contract of less than $50M results in a pick after Comp B, which is before the third round (roughly pick #75).if the QO is given and rejected. Offers over $50M gives a pick before Round Two of draft (@#35).

That has nothing to do with my post at all.  The Twins should have traded Jeffers at the deadline. The QO is just to get something in return instead of nothing.

Agree Jeffers should have been traded. Just a note to say that the something could be a #75 pick, not a #35 pick. That value is not worth a $23M gamble. I'm not convinced the QO should be made. There is a chance Jeffers accepts the large one year deal. The Twins made a mistake by not trading him and it would be another mistake to roster two catchers for $30M+, unless the roster budget is $160M+.

So it is related but I certainly could have extended and explained the response more fully. Regrets on that.

It's not a $23 million gamble. You're only gambling the premium you're paying him on a one year deal. So closer to $5 million.

I'm very, very willing to see the Pohlads throw away $5 million on a second tier player that improves my favorite baseball team. And I'm very confused how people here aren't.

It's not your money. It's a $2 billion entity! I promise you Jeffers doesn't preclude the Twins from doing anything else.

This decision does not cause payroll issues on account of the Twins having bottom third payroll commitments, but maybe more importantly, unlike decisions about Royce or Larnach or Ober or Kramer or even Joe Ryan, this decision creates no downstream roster issues.

The Twins need 2 catchers on their 26 man roster and an additional one on their 40 man roster. Jeffers is blocking no one and, is clearly the best option internally. There's not a single hard decision created if he were to accept the QO.

Everyone needs to remember this is the Twins and if that money doesn't go to Jeffers, it goes to the Pohlads.

honestly sir, I have no idea where the seat was. that's a long time ago. the contract money. hopefully the new bargaining agreement will fix that issue because it's not right that the dodgers get $300 million worth and the twins get $35 million worth that's no good. The prophets such as contract money should go to the players. it should be a part of the contract. the profits of the teams that kind of thing part of it goes to the players. part of it goes to the owners and we don't need to be charging so much money to enter the stadium and see a game. I watch through DirecTV where there are blackouts of two teams which is a slap in the face to the baseball fan. I am 5 hours from any Major League Field but baseball is always going to put a black out unless you're in the tri-state area of Minnesota. I have a pretty large screen television and it's about $30 a month or less for 6 months and I don't find that price excessive at all.

that is true but the most value I think is human life. your loved one in a major operation in a hospital. I think more value is placed there, hopefully than a ball game. I've not said this yet but players like to talk about how much fun they have being on the field and getting paid to do it. how much is just having fun? supposed to be worth how much should you get paid just because you're having fun but there is another side to it. they're away from their families for quite a while at a time. their children are wanting Dad to be at home and he's not for 3 out of 6 months but Mexicans get on a plane, come to California and work on the farm for 6 months and they don't see family for 6 months in a row. they don't get paid very well. it's just the ultimate con job to me and it's not the player's fault. this Con job exists. you see free agency started I think in 1976. George steinbrunner took Jim Hunter from the Oakland A's and brought him to New York for $350,000 and that was huge money at the time. when people come to see a game they know the players that's going to be there. there's not all these massive changes in who's going to be on the field for that City. so so much of the talk is about well. we need to sign all these players and how much can we afford to pay to try to buy our way into a championship instead of doing it by drafting and trades and no sport is harder to make the right call on a trade then baseball is. to just pay for your championship and this world series proves the huge money does not always make you a winner but you are paying to try and get your championship, not do it from the smarts of your brain for baseball knowledge. I would love to see the Minnesota twins win a championship not buying anybody. just doing it by making trades and good drafting that would be more rewarding.

OH, I'm ok with the Pohlads/Twins spending a ton of money. No problem. It's not my money and it would fine with me to see the Twins roll with a $175M+ roster in 2027.

Perhaps I'm exceptionally naive but I don't see it, although I would support it. Roster choices are largely opportunity costs for our Twins. But sure, Sign Jeffers and also sign Morejon, Bednar, Lowe, and Bauers too.

As fans, we should be hoping for the best, pushing the organization to their limits, not making excuses in advance on their behalf.

There's no excuse for the Twins not to extend the QO other than them being cheap bastards. And we as fans shouldn't be supporting their decision to be cheap bastards.

The simple fact is if the Twins want to be the best version of themselves in 2027 there is no argument against offering Jeffers a QO (unless he's already signed an extension which I'm not even sure I support).

Rather than complain the sport isn't the same it was 50 years ago, maybe instead recognize what it is today.

And also recognize I live in NYC and don't pay a thousand dollars every time I go to the ballpark like you apparently insanely believe. $40 per game on average. Including transportation.

You really, really need to stop pretending as if baseball is an unattainable past time just because players are getting paid their fair share of the billionaire welfare queens massive revenue streams.

When next season begins, I will still be a baseball fan and a Twins fan. Every year I hope the team improves. Some times those suggested improvements require increased expenditures and at other times I hope for savvy trades. I sat 5 feet from Dusty Baker in the 2023 playoffs and knew the Twins needed change. The Twins have sat on their hands quite a bit. The frenzy of action at the 2025 trade deadline was not followed up, which left me with a frown. Shelton let the players show their skills and then managed to convince management and the players to shift positions. This was a positive move. In all cases, I'm still a fan. I'm hoping and pushing.

Where we (and actually almost everyone else here on TD but not everyone) disagree is on Ryan Jeffers. I think in the other cases we mol agree. Reality is not something to ignore though. Gleeman has been screaming for years for a much larger roster expenditure. I don't see that as something we have any control over and have consistently pushed forward multiple plans for rosters. One possible and one likely. The front office has options every year. We see teams like TB, CLE, MIl, and more make their own futures whereas the Twins mostly sit. The money is less important than the moves as we clearly saw when Falvey spent more money than any of his ALC opponents during his tenure. So spend more. Absolutely, but spend smart.

and that's our program for tonight. I did not say it's $1,000. a ticket everywhere. most likely New York still has a $10 seat the Yankees. I don't know anything about the Mets. when the stadium opened they had seats that were priced at $1,600 per game. not very many seats just behind the Yankees dugout. My point is in the past pricing was a lot better based on the economy at that time. now the inflation of baseball is about a hundred times more than the regular national economy and people like you seem to think that's fine. do you want to pay $50 for a loaf of bread? is that fine too? but a baseball player. you must get on your knees and bow to this person because it seems to be a good idea to pay exorbitant prices if you want to pay them or you can take the cheaper seat and not get to be very close to the field. look dude. I'm an old man and I know the past and I know it was better than now in all things and I really would rather you not write me anymore. not reply to this. I'm not going to read it. attitude is everything and yours is not good. it's abrasive. it's not becoming of this site to talk like that and it's very typical of the New York Yankees fans who are by far the worst in the league. why? because they beg the owner to pay huge money for the best possible player out there rather than develop their own. that's asinine backwards. no more

Jeffers is worth whatever an employer is willing to pay. Same as any job in a capitalist society. The contract estimates for Jeffers from models and non-Twins fans seem way too low to me.

The top estimate is 3yrs $40MM with two other estimates below $20MM total, but I think teams are going to have to look hard at what Jeffers did and how he accomplished it.

Jeffers has undergone a pretty radical transformation at the plate over the past couple years. Walk rates have skyrocketed, strikeout rates have cratered, contact has improved dramatically. He rarely whiffs and when he swings hard, he hits the ball hard.

Projection models for salary estimators aren't bullish on Jeffers' future production. Even at a longer review, nothing really seems amiss except... he sucked against fastballs last year. Pitcher rarely threw fastballs Jeffers' way, but there's no way analysts don't catch on. It feels a lot like Trevor Larnach's adjustments. As Larnach adjusted to not be useless against changeups and breaking pitches, his ability to get on the fastball tanked. Then, Larnach re-adjusted to try and get to the fastball again, but the old weaknesses started showing again.

Jeffers has historically been, overall, a little above a league average bat with mediocre catching skills and mediocre durability. He's never produced better than 2.6 fWAR in a season, and he averages just under 2.0.

How much teams buy into the sustainability of the new Jeffers approach at the plate will dictate his value. I'm trending down on my estimates of his contract based upon independent estimates. If the Twins can sign Jeffers to that 3/40 contract without a NTC, I think that's certainly worth considering. Trade him when/if Lackey or Tinney is ready.

I think somebody said I'm not sure if this is right or not but that Carl polad was the richest owner in baseball when he took over yet he didn't put a whole lot of money of his own into it. that kind of insinuates that if he has the money he should spend it. but isn't he owning this business? that's what it is to make a profit not just spend money he could spend and go in the whole profit wise but maybe see a world series championship. what is that worth when it comes to financials to an owner? My phone doesn't seem to always show the results of someone writing to me and I haven't read what I think is a message from you just yet because this popped up and I'm not even sure it's going to be there. sometimes it's not. we'll see. you can't be such a young guy based on what you're name on here is. and I started filing Minnesota in 1965 because we had Harmon Killebrew one of the best personalities on and off the field. I like to root for people of integrity and Ken harrelson who is doing games for the White Sox call. the Minnesota twins after he tongue-in-sheet says the Twinkies the best run organization in the game and he's talking about the integrity of who they will hire as a free agent and who they will draft in the draft. looking for people who have on and off the field integrity. otherwise I wouldn't be following them at all since I'm in Virginia. but I hardly go a whole day even in the off-season without looking to see what news might be up there for them. I realize the business it is but the guy puts on the twins uniform and it becomes different to me and I'm a grown man. what I'm rooting for is the Minnesota twins putting the team on the field that can prosper in the playoffs and if they don't I'm still going to follow it on a daily basis.

and that's our program for tonight. I'm not going to read it. attitude is everything and yours is not good. it's abrasive. it's not becoming of this site to talk like that and it's very typical of the New York Yankees fans who are by far the worst in the league. why? because they beg the owner to pay huge money for the best possible player out there rather than develop their own. that's asinine backwards. no more

Dude, I want to read what you wrote but it is not readable unless I want to take 5 minutes to put in Capital letters, punctuation, and fix the word order, grammar, etc. I'm not rejecting whatever you want to say. I am rejecting the unreadable text. I am confident you can use sentences to convey your thoughts, which others will then read.

Google does the pronunciation on here not me and I would have to read every sentence and redo every single sentence that I write and I have written to Google about this. you need to leave what I do alone. it is none of your business. Google how I write anything and you can't get worse pronunciation than what Google puts out. Am I the only one that has to deal with this all kinds of mistakes? one after the other so I just stopped proofreading it. you know this is not business. this is just recreation. I'm sorry if it's a problem. it definitely is for me.

I have taken this phone to the phone store and they tell me it's Google and they can't do anything about it.

I fully agree. But it's not the obvious move because he's "expensive". Ryan Jeffers receiving a QO is the obvious move because he's easily the best option readily available and even if he rejects the offer it helps the Twins.

The Brewers would offer him the QO! I can all but guarantee you that.

Sorry you have a problem with your phone and Google. Good luck in the future. I will not bother you any more.

I understand the wish for a draft choice. I'm afraid that there is a chance that Ryan Jeffers accepts the QO. I'm ready for the Twins pitchers to have a real catcher to throw to and I really don't care about the bat. This is my opinion and I recognize the opposite side, but I disagree as do Cleveland and many other teams.

FWIW, I don't believe that Milwaukee would use Ryan Jeffers as a catcher.
