TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 Fien is in -- bring in Perkins if he gets in trouble? What better way to generate more value for Fien? It's risky, but it's the right thing to do: Throw him into higher leverage situations and hope he excels.
MichiganTwins Verified Member Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 I was hoping Tonkin would pitch today
ashbury Verified Member Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 Too soon. I didn't realize anyone would be in mourning about it. My apologies.

I'd just like to have them win at least one game against the Yankees this year. But since Fien got out of it w/o any damage........
James Verified Member Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 I'm going to disagree with the outrage on the call against Thomas at first base. I watched the play, and he was in fair territory the whole time up the baseline. He was not in the "running lane" that is marked on the field. Rule 6.05(k) and attached comment make it pretty clear the umpire called it correctly. It sucks, but that's baseball. (k) In running the last half of the distance from home base to first base, while the ballis being fielded to first base, he runs outside (to the right of) the three-foot line, orinside (to the left of) the foul line, and in the umpire’s judgment in so doing interferes with the fielder taking the throw at first base, in which case the ball is dead;except that he may run outside (to the right of) the three-foot line or inside (to theleft of) the foul line to avoid a fielder attempting to field a batted ball;Rule 6.05(k) Comment: The lines marking the three-foot lane are a part of that lane and abatter-runner is required to have both feet within the three-foot lane or on the lines marking the lane. The batter-runner is permitted to exit the three-foot lane by means of a step, stride, reach or slide in theimmediate vicinity of first base for the sole purpose of touching first base. That's no fair. Stop examining plays applying the rules to them. Well, personally, I didn't think he interfered with fielding the ball. It was a bad throw, which is why he was hit.

I agree it was a bad throw, but if you're going to rely upon the umpire's judgment, you have to expect sometimes it will go against you. If he had been in the lane, it would have taken away the need for an umpire's judgment call.
Guest USAFChief Guests Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 Darn ... Chief beat me to it!You have to get up pretty early in the afternoon to put one over on this old codger.
Bark's Lounge Verified Member Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 This feels awkward and unfamiliar.
stringer bell Verified Member Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 They probably won't have to face Cano again today. No one else in the order really scares me. I'm disappointed with the way the Twins have played the crippled Yankees. They match up horribly with the Rays and it figured they would lose at least three when Tampa was playing well. The Yankees aren't playing that well, but the Twins have just failed to do the job against them.

MichiganTwins Verified Member Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 I really enjoy it when the Twins win
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 The batter-runner is permitted to exit the three-foot lane by means of a step, stride, reach or slide in theimmediate vicinity of first base for the sole purpose of touching first base. But this is the part that affects the play and Thomas complied with this.

ashbury Verified Member Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 100. C'mon Perk! Sorry, you are caller #101. Thanks, and keep listening!

James Verified Member Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 A win!!!! We don't get to say/type that enough.
Guest USAFChief Guests Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 Our long national nightmare is over. Calls for a cocktail or two, IMO.
