Kwesi has to be gone after this year.

Agreed, but I am skeptical now that they extended him before the season. Why they did that before we knew how McCarthy and Turner would turn out is one of life's many mysteries.

I have to move to Minnesota. Management loves extending or picking up options on underperforming employees 😂

All you need to do is be the Gophers football coach and you'll be extended in perpetuity if you finish above .500 in a season.

Only watched the first half of last nights game which I think was 5-3 at halftime. And this 3-0 game in the 4th. Couple of snoozers. Bad week for nfl primetime games

Speaking of under performers...word is Tommy Watkins is moving on to the Braves.

At least we can say with some conclusivity that Jordan Love ****ing blows and the Packers gave him the bag.

They fell right into the Kirk Cousins trap. Hook, line and sinker. I looked at the Packers’ Reddit page this morning out of curiosity and they’re in full blown denial about Love. Placing all of the blame on LeFluer.

The cherry on top is if they actually fire a great HC over admitting Love is middle of the road at best.

Idk if that’s fair to say. It was his worst game of the year but he’s still top ten in most statistical categories. Had a higher qbr than darnold last year too.

Have you seen how he single-handedly lost the Cleveland and Carolina games with passes that can only be described as "mind numbingly stupid"?

Would you switch places with GB as far as their current QB situation?

We talk a lot on here about how few competent QBs there are in the NFL today. We don’t know yet if the Vikings have one. Early returns not great on McCarthy. Yes he doesn’t have the big contract, but if he doesn’t work out we are in huge trouble.

Context:

Weaponizing expedited review against false starts would go a long way toward officiating this play properly.  It's apparent immediately, and they have a window of time to look at it as players untangle themselves from the scrum

No.  I wouldn't.  I think they pulled a Cousins.  I'm all done with that strategy.  I'd rather fail cheaply with McCarthy and try again in a few years if it comes to that.

Nope. Easier to move on from McCarthy if he can't cut it than it will be Love.

The earliest the Packers can get out of Love’s deal without destroying their salary cap is 2027. Good luck to them.

Easier financially, but it’s not easy to find someone putting up top ten numbers. If it were, teams like the browns and jets wouldn’t be the browns and the jets.

McCarthy is presumably going to get next season to show what he has. If he’s not it, the Vikings will be looking for a quarterback in 2027 as well.

Sure, and there are probably some fan bases that are on board with just getting back to regularly having an above .500 record.

I'm pretty sure GB is like most of the Vikings fan base though, we're average to good most years, so mediocrity and frequent uncompetitive playoff appearances aren't going to cut it. Keep looking for a QB who can put you over the top.

But the Browns and the Jets are the Browns and the Jets because of their owners. Which is pretty much the case with every perpetually bad franchise.

Presumably, but not most definitely. He's got 8 games left; there's a lot of time for the tide to turn. Anthony Richardson only got 15 starts, Trey Lance only got 4 and both the Colts and 49ers got HUGELY rewarded for making a decisive call and going in another direction. That's not going to be lost on teams in similar situations going forward.

Big difference, if McCarthy fails there is a very good chance that people will be getting fired considering they went all in on him instead of darnold or someone else. I’d bet a month’s wages he’s going to get more than 12 games.

Part of the reason the Browns and the Jets (and generally bad teams) are who they are is because they constantly fire coaches/gms/qbs and don't let things develop.

I like our owners on this. Speilman was our GM for 15 years, essentially. Some of those years were pretty bad but the Wilfs trusted him instead of kneejerk firing him. If KOC can't develop JJ (and I think, outside an injury, he will), I want him to stick around and get another shot, not fire him.

Jets can always find a way to Jets things up.

They can pretty easily get out from under Love if they trade him after 6/1 of next year-they'd eat $16M in dead cap in 2026, and $31M in 2027, but save $19.4M on their cap next year.  It's even easier in 2027; trade him after 6/1 and you have $36.7M in dead cap in 2027 (but save $25.7M against the cap), and only $15M dead cap in 2028 (when the cap might well be $425M).

The Vikings would incur minimal dead cap by moving on from JJM next year, but would not get any savings unless they did a post 6/1 trade.  Same as in 2027--no savings for cutting him, only for trading him, and less than $4M in savings.  So yes, less prohibitive to move on from JJM, but also much less beneficial as well.

Yup.  It's gonna be hard to sell the Wilfs on keeping KAM around if after 4 years he's only made the playoffs twice, won zero games, whiffed so badly on a QB pick that they cut ties after only 12 games played, and missed the playoffs despite back-to-back FA spending sprees that created one of the oldest most expensive rosters in football.
