Clearly a lifetime positional player minor leaguer, and the great white hope Kyle Gibson are clearly the same type of player no should be handled similarly.

Who not no

So it looks like he gets matched up against Shields on Saturday. Should be fun.

And projecting ahead, he'll have the Fourth of July start against the Yankees. That should put some butts in the seats.

Relax. Whining about whining just equals more whining. Half-way through the season with the worst SP ERA and the Twins best starting pitcher finally gets a call-up. Its just long over-due and some might want to get their shots in. Hit the ignore button dudes. I'm extremely pumped to see Gibson and I think my posts finally convinced TR to make the move. I think he should read my posts more often.

No kidding. It's not unreasonable to call him up a few days early and let him adjust to the big leagues before pitching.

The complaining around here is starting to become tiresome. Gibson doesn't get called up, the front office is cheap and incompetent. Gibson gets called up, the front office is incompetent because they didn't take advantage of putting Drew-freakin-Butera on the roster for one series.

I mean, really. C'mon, people. Listen to yourselves.

I warned you guys this place would become rube chat...people cant help themselves, thye want to be scouts, GM's and coaches.

Your backup C possibly sufferred an injury today, and you're goin into a NL park with only 4 total bench players & you call up a starter who wont be used for 6 days & debating that is considered whining!!! WOW

Bringin up Butera was just a snarky remark on Ryan as the catcher to call up in such a circumstance is obviously Hermann.....figured a majority would get that wasnt a serious request.

If we are to ONLY give positive remarks to every topic, please let us know

I thought he could have been up a month and a half ago but now he is up and I hope he does well. And I also hope he can stay up permanently, which was probably the ultimate goal of the front office from the beginning.

My question - if he does well is the Twins approach vindicated or should he have been called up earlier? Will people actually enjoy his success or use it as more reason to attack the FO and whine?

I'm with Seth. You can't please some people. I myself could not be happier. I was super excited when they drafted him. I was gratified by his first full year in pro ball. I was shocked and dismayed by his injury. I was impressed by how hard he worked to come back. And I was extremely impatient when he was knocking on the door. Now I can just be excited to watch him pitch. I get an added sense of excitement when Hicks and Arcia hit. This will be like that and then some.

The Garza trade, surely the worst I have witnessed was a mistake in my opinion the day it was made. Liked Bartlet too. Since we have seen a marked decline in pitching talent. Hard to watch sometimes. That is why it is so sweet to see some talent arriving. Makes this recently suffering Twins fan excited again! Can't coach talent. Let's judge Anderson when he has something to work with. For example he has been the pitching coach during Perkin's change to reliever and rise to closer. Did Perkins achieve that by overcoming his poor coaching?

This is just sad. It honestly makes me not even want to come to a site that I write at. I'm amazed by people's (some people's) lack of civility and basic respect. We built this place not for people to whine about and complain about everything, over and over again. This should be civil discussion. Now the move that everyone has been waiting for has happened and right away, more whining. It's pathetic. I don't even know what to say anymore. We shouldn't have to continually post things about how to comment. It's not that hard!

The Twins obviously had their rationale for not calling him up earlier. The Super 2 deadline just definitively passed in the last week (two at most). Kyle strung together a number of nice showings. And look..... he got promoted.

Some folks here are constantly caught up in wanting instantaneous action of whatever their whim might be. Gibson was a great example. Earlier, Sano. Recently, Buxton. And look... all three are promoted.

It's a recurring theme that the big picture gets ignored and a lot of keystrokes are spent hashing out the difference between today and next week. In baseball, that's practically a microcosm. I (wishfully) hope these three examples can help folks step back and maybe relax a little with the understanding that the FO isn't actually full of complete idiots.

I don't know what to whine about now since both Buxton and Gibson were promoted. Maybe I'll just save it up for the trade deadline.

Asking reasonable questions of the club you are following for why they do what they do is not whining.

My general thought here is that the front office is actually doing pretty much what everyone thinks they should, they just don't do it exactly the way many want them to. In a general sense they are finding out what they have. Florimon and Dozier are getting a chance to prove whether they are major league regulars or not. Some people were complaining when Escobar wasn't moved into a regular role when he was hot early in the year. When he started playing more, well maybe we saw why the Twins want an extended look at Dozier and Florimon.

Plouffe, if he can stay healthy, is getting his look. Arcia is getting his looks. Even Parmelee is getting his chances to show what he can do.

It is the same with the starting staff. They are gradually working their way through the viable candidates giving each enough starts to show strengths and weaknesses. They are rewarding minor league performance(like Walters) and looking at those with perhaps higher upsides (like now Gibson).

There has been plenty of complaining about what free agents were signed and sticking with one too long(Pelfrey) but largely what the Twins are doing is mostly what most thought they should be doing. It might take a huge nose dive my the Tigers, but it is not impossible that the Twins could edge their way into the Central Division race during the 2nd half. Nobody expected or realistically expects them to do that, but they are in a position to possibly do that despite all the "mistakes" the front office makes and Gardy makes.

So. I think the complaining could be toned down. Let's give the Twins organization some credit for trying to get it right, even if we are sure they could be doing it much better.

We could ask the front office defenders the same thing. Will they enjoy his success or use it to attack and whine about the fans who do not defend the front office? Don't think your complaints are any less grating to those who disagree with you.

Except asking why Gibson was not being promoted was not based on any "whims," evidence was presented from past promotions for why he should get the call, the Twins starting pitching staff has been the worst in baseball, and since the beginning of May, Gibson has easily exceeded the alleged impediments that were supposedly hindering his promotion.

There are some that have alleged the front office is "full of idiots", but most of the dissent has been rational and evidentiary. Buxton and Sano have finally been promoted, and now Gibson. Better late than never, but there are sound reasons to consider a faster-track than the course the Twins almost always follow. Buxton and Sano are special and should be treated as such, and after making adjustments in April, Gibson has clearly been ready for promotion for over a month now.

Touche'

You could feel the "I told you so" knives getting sharpened when Sano struggled coming out of the gate in New Britain. Hopefully, these same types won't "tut-tut" if Gibson's first few outings go like some of Gausman's have gone.

And, that's me whining about the whining and the negative spin on everything. Thanks for listening!

And, congratulations to Kyle Gibson, one of the best people I have had the opportunity to meet and talk to. He knows pitching. He's smart. He's got stuff. I hope things go well for him!

I too am excited about the call up, and I'll put the matter to rest unless repercussions arise. I also understand the frustration with a few complaints after everyone finally got what they wished for, but it was only a few complaints. I think those complaining about the complainers are using this new, somewhat trivial carping to invalidate the original issue. These new complaints, even if trivial, do not mean those that criticized the front office for the delayed promotion were in the wrong.

It's nice Gibson is getting the call. I won't add "finally" though. I hope he does ok, and don't expect alot, like some of these posters who think he's the solid gold answer.

I'd just like the Twins to hang in there this year. So far, so good.

And I actually agree with you. I guess we just differ on the reaction that causes.

With Gibson, if we're talking a month, like 5 starts? The Twins FO obviously had their reasons to keep him in AAA, with Super 2 being a pretty justifiable rationale in my mind (granted, not so for some folks here) that every MLB team considers. When we're talking the matter of a month, I can't fathom that being a real factor in the long run and I guess I'm willing to give the FO at least that much leeway without ripping them to shreds over it.

Same story with the others that have been hot topics around here.

Reading these comments and being a MN pro sports fan for my whole life I can say that most of MN fans are whiners. Sorry but its true. We finaly get the news Gibson is being called up and people are complaining that they should of done it differently. Really? Come on we finaly got the news, be happy.

Another thing that got me to say this was a article on the star tribune about a Q&A with the Wilds owner and fans. Most of the questions were negative. Like: How dissapointed were you with last season, Why was koivu so bad in the playoffs, how long will it take for Koivu to restore his image, Do you regret the pominville trade because you gave up so much to get him....... I was blown away by how negative all the questions were. I mean the Wild made the playoffs for the first time in years despite the fact that half of their team was new and it was a shortened season with no pre season to get chemistry. It was one of the very few times in recent history that a MN team had gone out and spent big money on FAs and made big trades to be good and all MN fans can do is whine. I hope when the Wild are one of the best teams next year they dont watch.

Im not saying all of you are like this im just sick of seeing people whine when a team is going in the right direction. Instead of finding something bad about a good thing lets be happy and get excited.

I'm glad to see Gibson. I wonder if we'll ever know why they took their sweet time in making this move.

But the timing of this is, at best, odd. I wonder if they Twins will reconsider things tomorrow, possibly adding him to the 25-man roster later this week. He can still hang out with the team for a few days. I don't know why they would short themselves the opportunity to have another bench bat (or maybe even more necessary after Saturday, a bullpen arm) for those four games.

The only thing I can think is that they want Gibson available as long relief for those four days in case one of the starters gets knocked our early.

Yep. Pretty common ground here. The big thing with Gibson was that the organization let it be known in the spring that he would be "monitored closely" and was going to be limited in his 2013 innings. The "monitor closely" part just seemed to miss the forest for the trees the last month, and many of us didn't want the self-imposed innings restriction to end up making 2013 largely a wasted year for Gibbie in AAA, rather than to jump into the deep end of the pool at the major league level and getting the acclimation curve of his career over with now. These 4 starts missed in June and lets split the difference, 2 starts in May, totaling 6 could have been over half of the major league innings he's going to log in this year. He likely only has 6 starts if the club plays it conservatively (shocker! I know...) and shuts him down closer to 130 rather than 140-50.

What are you saying. You're just not happy unless you're miserable? Makes total sense.
