I don't want to speak for Levi, but he made perfectly reasonable suppositions, which you then chose to pick apart and jump all over instead of responding in a civil manner.

Here's the thing with Baker; remember those at bats that would last forever because the pitches were up and the hitters would hit foul after foul. That just killed his pitch count and made for short starts. Gibson looks to be more of a ground ball than fly ball type, and maybe can keep the ball down and get quicker outs.

2. I'd like a credit for 7 of those pages.

 

3. Scott Baker had a +ERA of about 130 in 2011 (and a WAR of +4 for WAR likers) so he's definitely a respectable pitcher and would have been great to have on the staff if he was healthy. If Gibson outs out a few years of comparable service we should be happy.

 

4. The innings limit is getting way too much play. The Twins have been loosey-goosey about this since spring training. Rob Anthony backed away from this further on 1500espn today.

 

5. Don't flip out if Gibson has a few crap outings.

 

6. Remember Eddie Bane.

 

Closing it... Is Certainly an option. I think it can straighten out because a discussion about Kyle Gibson is certainly top of mind for us all. Let's see if it happens.

Levi did make excellent points and Drjim asked for a clarification on if Levi meant... "We" The Fans don't know the kinks or "We" The front office don't know the kinks. That's an important distinction.

 

I think Levi will understand that and answer respectfully.

That Antony response must have been his response to Phil Mackey who a little earlier made this comment:

"Prior to this season, general manager Terry Ryan said the team would likely limit Gibson's innings to 130 or 140, so as to not put too much strain on his surgically-repaired elbow. It is believed the Twins could be flexible with that limit, but even if they are it's likely Gibson won't pitch much beyond early- to mid-August. "

 

Following the cuurrent Twins starting pitching schedule, and assuming it goes exactly as scheduled in the 5 man rotation, Gibson would be making his 9th start on August 14- and assuming he goes 6 innings per start, it would put him right around 150 innings on the season.

I'm sure the Twins have anticipated some of the problems, but they can't anticipate them all. If they could, Hendricks wouldn't have dominated AAA hitters and struggled in the majors. Gibson will have challenges unique to the major league game, I'd rather he experience those and work on them now, rather than in 2014 which I am increasingly optimistic about.

 

The more opportunities for that this year - the better. Rather than wait until next year.

Hopefully, his beachful bliss comes after 6-9 starts that will have offered the first linchpin of legitimate hope that this franchise can turn itself around and field a starting pitching staff that doesn't have the worst ERA in baseball.

 

Other than Gibbie, what I'd like to see happen with the rotation and what is likely to happen are probably 2 very different things. I don't want to come off as negative or anything:p....., but I'm guessing that Albers gets Gibson's spot when he is finally shut down and Bagger Vance regains a rotation spot at some point over whomever is no longer cutting it or is shut down (Pelfrey, Walters immediately come to mind). Other than that, probably little else will change. Come September 1, I hope that May is healthy enough to get a call-up for 4 starts or so.

I'd be all-in for what you propose. It fulfills two purposes, it would be fun and it would help to answer some more questions----

 

Correia and Diamond's ability to effectively pitch a full season?

 

and for H, W and A, where they fit in the equation going into the 2013-14 offseason?

 

And maybe throw May in there for a make-up game or DH spot start or 2 or 3.

One September I remember watching Kinney, Lohse, and Santana all audition back to back. I thought it was great. Wouldn't mind that type of thing again. I remember thinking Kinney would be great and Lohse pretty good. Wasn't sure about Santana.

Hendriks is pretty much the poster boy for why you need your best prospects up to face the real thing and answering those lingering questions and then hopefully, solving the inevitable issues that pop up, sooner, rather than later.
