I mean, before the year, Detroit had the third best SB odds. Breathe, people.

As I said earlier, you mean to tell me the Vikings aren't going 17-0? I will sleep at the same time tonight I usually do. There are signs of concern, but IMO we've already banked 2-3 wins with this early schedule. It lightens up starting on Thursday if they play like they have been.

But…we had them and as the late great DG once said, we let em off the hook.

At the end of the day....the Lions running game beat our run defense.  That was the strength on strength matchup to decide the game.

That said..you convert that 2 pointer or you make that 3rd and 4...and we walk out winners on a day we didn't play a great game.

One thing KOC needs to work on his his short yardage play calling.  I'm not inspired by it given the wealth of options we have.

Need Hock back for sure.....

I have been worried about the run D since before the year started.....

This offense needs to be A LOT better, given the WRs and RBs.

Speaking of which...that last series before the hail mary:

1st Down - Rip off a run up the middle that Jones single handedily makes into a 5 yard gain.  Good call.

2nd Down - A sweep to the near boundary?  They're lucky the ref called that in play and kept the clock running. That play call makes zero sense.  Zero.  Pound it up the middle for another couple yards and make 3rd easier.

3rd Down - It's only 4 yards.  Why are we running a layered set of flood routes?  Why is no one doing a quick whip route down the middle.  A even a quick out or a slant?  That was a long developing, low odds play.

The run D has been one of the best in the league.  Not sure how given how little talent we have with their hand in the ground, but they got beat yesterday.  (Although, to my eye, mostly off tackle)

Yes, I've been surprised by that all year......didn't get to see any of yesterday, and won't likely watch the highlights.....or maybe I will?

Off tackle (which is the LBers) seems to have been exposed.  I think Cashman's absence showed too.  That TD likely never happens with him on the field.

I'd have liked a screen or play action quick pass on 2nd down, as they would expect run.....

The concerns with this team arise from the last 10 quarters—D has given up 77 points, which equates to 523 in a 17 game season; that would have been worst in the league last year.  The offense has scored 42 points, which is 285 for a full season; that would have been 5th worst in the league last year (ahead of only CAR, NYG, NYJ, and NE—all of whom had dreadful QBs).

The next 4 games are pretty easy (6 wins across the 4 teams combined), so I’d be shocked if the Vikes are any worse than 8-2. But finishing with the Bears, Packers, Lions, Seahawks, Bears again, Falcons, and Cardinals could easily yield 4-5 losses if things don’t get fixed.  A final record of 11-6 or 10-7 would be very disappointing after a 5-0 start.

This team is going to make the playoffs, but the most recent version would get bounced pretty quick.

I'm not quite as worried as others are, these were two of the best five teams in the game and it could have gone either way. We will be fine. (Harrison Smith looked really old in this game though).

1) I think Darnold was better than many think. PFF actually gave him a pretty high game score (second to Jones on the offense). He wasn't perfect but he did enough. It's also worth remembering this is only his 7th start in the last two years. It's not unreasonable to think he's still seeing new things out there.

2) Ingram was horrible. Darnold was under a lot of pressure all game, straight up the middle. Makes it hard to do a lot with a crashing pocket. I suspect Ingram will be benched soon.

3) Lions were lucky and the refs blew a few calls that really impacted the game. On the second TD, Pace was tackled by their lineman for a pretty obvious hold, for example, and several illegal hits weren't called on Detroit's defense. The Lions also recovered their own fumbles twice. Any of these things change, we likely win.

4) KOC is a huge positive but, as I've mentioned a few times now, his play-calling is not always ideal. The rollout on third and four being the big example this week. We've also had a lot of stupid pre-snap penalties that hurt our drives. That's really annoying and usually a coaching issue.

5) We have a kicker.

Agree. I think the run blocking of the interior OL is the problem, but they've had two years to address that issue.

The other issue I have with him is end of half time management. He needs to stop trying to run out the clock when they get near midfield when there's still ample time left. Every capable offense in the league can get into at least field goal position if there's a minute left on the clock. Until they hit the two minute warning, getting first downs and keeping possession needs to be the priority. Stick to what has worked all game long, don't do predictable handoffs trying to kill time until the two minute mark.

Edit; I see the prior posts and realize paragraph two has been discussed.

Someone in the NFC is going to have ten wins and miss the playoffs. Pray to god it’s not the Vikings. The soft middle part of the schedule needs to help us rack up wins. Otherwise, the 4 remaining divisional games are going to be tough. Even the bears who always give us headaches

And someone in the AFC is probably going to lose ten games and make the playoffs.

Crazy how the balance of power in this league can switch in a year.

I still have my money on an AFC team winning it all though.

I believe the lions could definitely win it all, which would be incredibly hard to take. Goff is completing like 85% of his passes. Did anyone see him becoming prime drew Brees?

I don’t disagree that they can win it, but I’d still put my money on KC, Baltimore and Buffalo ahead of them.
