The Twins were an Ace away from making the playoffs.  They would have beaten Houston.  That would have been at least six playoff revenue games they could have paid for that Ace.  Yet they cheaped out.  They played the PandL game instead of having the guts to lay it out there and take a chance.  The ownership wont take a chance even if its a close call.  They are who they are.

While an Ace would have been helpful it wouldn't have helped the hitting collapse which saw the Twins total 4 hits or fewer in 24 of their last 30 games. It was a total team collapse.

And to give Falvey time to hit the phones looking for Thad's replacement.

On a side note I hope Baldelli is looking for a new 3B coach and that changes will occur there also.

I hear that. Watkins is about the worst 3rd base coach I have watched.

But they hit more solo homeruns than 3 run homers because they can't get anyone on base ...

Everyone does that.

Across the majors this year there were 3088 solo home runs.  There were 616 home runs hit with two on base.

You'd be hard pressed to find a team, or even an outlier player, who bucks that trend.  Actually the Twins did better - a larger percent of their home 183 home runs were of the 3-run variety - than the majors as a whole.

However, it’s become increasingly clear that someone will need to take the fall for the disappointing results in 2024, and Levine, once a hot commodity, appears to be the likely candidate.

What is this framing? Someone will need to take a fall? Increasing clear?  How?  Are we insane?

We know nothing about what is happening on the other side of the wall, or what happened in the last two months but we are somehow comfortable with demanding a head on a platter?

Such dumb sports fan thinking. I'm glad they don't think with their Reddit brain.

It struck me as ... ominous for Levine when the Twins announced that Falvey and Baldelli would be returning for 2025, but conspicuously didn't mention Levine.

My gut tells me he's gone.

I already replied once, but in the meantime I looked at the STrib* piece by Nightengale on the 29th, and there is this snippet: "Falvey declined to comment on the status of General Manager Thad Levine, whose last known contract extension expires this year."  That's more than "conspicuously didn't mention."   So the odds are really high that they are just waiting for the right moment, whatever that is.

Which half season was Lopez actually effective?

It must have been his All-Star (half-season) year in Baltimore, it sure wasn't with the Twins ... or the Marlins ... or the Mets ... or any other team that attempted to salvage him afterwards. Is he even in pro ball now?

Every GM has good trades/signings and bad ones. The bad ones are brought up when the team does poorly while the good ones come up when the team wins. The Twins twin leaders failed to improve the team by getting a starter or two and maybe a reliever at the deadline when Ryan and Paddack went down. But they also couldn't figure that both KC and especially Detroit would be hot down the stretch, The team needs to increase payroll by 20% to get some better players in for 2025 and keep the core beyond that. We aren't dead but we'd better not stand pat.
