All the brouhaha was was/is silly; Lewis had a double with two gents on after a nasty slump, he has done nothng for any one to think he should have an extension. At the end of the year , then , judge what his furture - may - be.
MGM4706 Verified Member Posted July 8, 2024 Posted July 8, 2024 First there is the injury issue. It has been pretty consistent his entire time with the Twins. Second, is he another Julien? Once the league figured out Julien cant hit a cutter in on his hands his strikeouts sky-rocketed to Sano-like numbers. What if the same is true on Lewis. He was like 3 for 27 his last two weeks before the injury. Has the league figured him out and is he really not a consistent hitter or was it just a slump? Need more time on the field before spending the big bucks! RpR 1
Danchat Verified Member Posted July 8, 2024 Posted July 8, 2024 If Spotrac is to be believed, we have control of Lewis through 2028 (4 years of arbitration) and he hits free agency in the winter of 2028 and will be 30 in 2029. I've never one to jump at paying a player big money into their 30s, and while Lewis could be an exception given his talent... and then there are the injuries. If he were to hit FA around age 27-29, I would be more interested in an extension. Also given Boras being Royce's agent and Falvine's lack of a track record of signing extensions to players early in their career, I don't see it happening.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2024 Posted July 8, 2024 I can't think of any reason to do this at this point. How many years in a row has he been hurt for more than half the year now? Four? Twins33 and RpR 2
