Carew had 36 plate appearances as a Twin. Reflective of always batting at the top of the order, with smaller rosters, when teams tried to win.

Unfortunately, he was only 5 for 31 in those plate appearances.

HALL OF fAME NUMBERS FOR OUR PRESENT HITTERS

Every time they introduce Tim Laudner as  Former Twins ALL-STAR , i CRINGE

Selected in 1988. Let’s see — who would have been the manager that year?

EDIT to add: In Laudner’s defense, he was at .264 with 9 homers at the break. Don’t know an easy way to check on other catchers at that point in the year, but that’s probably not an awful selection.

Gotta be a Senator Moment

1924, to be precise. Wonder if the Twins will do anything with that next year. They pretty much ignore any Washington stuff.

Interestingly, their manager was only 27 at the time, making TK look like a senior citizen when he first won.

Better than Ron Coomer. When he use to do the Twins pre game show, they would introduce him as former all star Ron Coomer. I would chuckle every time.

Laudner to me was a Descent player,  All Star, no-no

How do you cringe when you consider the odds of becoming a professional ball player.  Just luck?

He’s another example of how they were probably a better team in 1988 than 1987. They won six more games in 1988, but still finished 13 behind the Bash Brothers.

Rule--- each Team 1 player, without that  No  all star

I always enjoy playing around with rotation scenarios. It will be interesting to see how they (re)line things up after the break. With the four-day break, anyone would be pitching on at least four days rest, so all are options.

If they were to stay in sequence, it would be Maeda-Lopez-Ober-Gray-Ryan. Ryan has struggled a bit recently, so I wouldn’t go there. It seems like an opportunity to give Ober some extra days and save some innings. Same with our post-TJS Maeda.

Particularly if Lopez doesn’t throw today, and even if he throws no more than 20 pitches, I’d go with him. Then I think I’d go Maeda since it will have already been more than a week. Then I’d go with Gray on Sunday, followed by Ober and Ryan.

Whadaya think (and to keep it easier, let’s ignore the Keuchel discussion)?

I think it's easier to figure out a logical rotation based on whatever.  Then take the paper. roll it up in a ball, and shoot it at the waste basket.  Then let Rocco-nomics take over.

Did anyone happen to listen to Cal Ripken's thoughts on playing everyday, or close to it.  It was just before the game started.  To paraphrase it, he basically said the rest and days off, did not suit him.  PS. Ripken is a HOFer who did pretty well for himself playing close to everyday for over a decade, and not being a fulltime DH.

The All-Star Game has lost a lot of luster for me since I was a kid, but when I think about a 182-174 NBA ASG, or 14-12 in the NHL, this still at least resembles a real game.

Still like the All-Star Game but could never get in to the Home Run Derby.

I didn’t tune in in time, but I did see an article the other day highlighting A-Rod’s nudging him over to play SS in his final ASG. Other stuff aside, that was a classy gesture on A-Rod’s part.
