Don’t know if anyone’s interested in an All-Star Game Thread, but here goes. Not bothering with lineups — just offering a place for discussion if anyone’s watching and feels like chiming in.

Dislike the idea of generic “American” and “National” uniforms. Much prefer the multicolor pageantry of seeing everyone in their own duds. Saw a picture of a mid-1970s National League All-Star team a few days ago and it was awesome. Also think it helps kids learning the game to see the unis from all the different teams.

I agree. I'm an old guy and I'd like the players wearing their individual team uni's rather than "National" or "American" uni's. Wearing an AL or NL team hat would be enough for me. I've been watching the All Star Game since the mid 1960's...always enjoyed it.

(I’m a couple minutes behind, after rewinding to catch the player intros.)

Fox TV seems to be a minute behind the Gameday feed, so by monitoring both I'm prepared for a feeling of time warp.

Best I can tell, this is the first time the Twins have had two starting pitchers make the team, but no hitters. Long careers from Harmon, Tony O, Carew, Puckett and Mauer will do that.

Dont Forget  Laudner:banghead:

Trails only Brian Dozier in career All-Star Game OPS as a Twin.

(Laudner doubled in his only AB. Dozier homered.)

Carew had 36 plate appearances as a Twin. Reflective of always batting at the top of the order, with smaller rosters, when teams tried to win.

Unfortunately, he was only 5 for 31 in those plate appearances.
