Pablo yielded a bit of hard contact in his third inning after he really handled the Tigers first eight hitters. He still really looked good. Okay inning for Mahle, except for hitting Torkelson in the upper arm.

I noticed the same thing.  In the interview he said he was working on weaker pitches and getting them in the zone.  I did not like the pitch down the middle with 2 strikes for the home run but it is Spring so I guess just let it fly and see what happens.

The new rules say the pitcher can only do two pickoff throws to, say, first, yes?

What are the rules regarding a catcher making a pickoff throw? Do the same limits apply?

I don't think so. I believe the catchers have carte blanche on pickoff throws.

Vasquez has looked horrible at the plate every time I have seen him.  Are we sure he is going to better than Jeffers at the plate?

I’m not sure that’s why they acquired him. He’s a very good receiver and he is very good at controlling the running game. With larger bases, that is very important.

You also don’t see that as often, esp when a pitcher is using the pick off to give time to a reliever warming up. But, now that the pitchers are limited, will we see the catcher make more throws to first this season?

The hit in the 4th would probably have been caught last year if the infielders were allowed to stand in the grass. The hit in the 5th went through the hole between first and 2nd where the 3rd infielder on that side would have played last season.
