If the Twins are in contention, I think you can take the "Correa not performing well" out of this equation. He is performing well and a couple week slump between now and then doesn't mean we should trade him. We have no other viable short stop.

If he's hurt, he has no value. He will opt out with whoever he is traded to unless they pony up big $$. Even if healthy we are not going to get some massive haul for him.

Truth! Never waste a chance when you're in a playoff scenario. They need veteran calmness once they get there. Correa has been there and done that. I think it's huge for the team. Next year...who knows--one or two pitchers are visited by the ghost of Tommy John and it's all out the window.

Never waste a chance.  Small market/revenue team window.  Very small window.  It opened in '87 and '91.

Game finances way they are now that 87 and 91 window have armed guards to keep small market/revenue teams out.

The Twins are going to be starting young, affordable players all over the diamond the next several years. Not because the club is being cheap, but because those young guys look really good and are the best options. We can pretty definitively say that the team will NOT spend big on pitchers, but they will for offensive players. The Twins will have more money to spend than they have reasonable free agents to sign, and if they are coming off of a strong year, they are not only going to feel compelled to use that money to win, but to use that money to show the fans and players they want to win. Shortstop is the one clear hole.

This nonsense about Correa guaranteed to be gone next season is baffling considering we had even less reason to believe he'd be here this season, yet here he is.

Nothing is guaranteed, but the weird agent situation and the lockout 100% played a big part in the deal he signed with the Twins. 

Odds on favorite feels like it's more about the fact he's currently here than the likelihood MN actually commits the years and money Correa will certainly be after. They're going to have to essentially double what they're currently paying him. He's probably worth it, and I'm fine with the Twins plugging the SS hole and sorting out Lewis's future afterwards, I'm just not confident, at all, that this club will spend like that.
