Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2022 Posted August 28, 2022 Here is my final 53 man prediction: Note that I'm predicting a few things here like a Jesse Davis trade, with a couple of waiver claims likely to come.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted August 29, 2022 Posted August 29, 2022 I can't believe they couldn't find anything better than Bradbury so far. On most teams he'd probably have been among the first cuts. Have there truly been no centers better than him cut yet?
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2022 Posted August 29, 2022 He was the Sire of Fort Myers but it wasn’t enough to make the team.

Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2022 Posted August 29, 2022 Sounds like there is trade interest for Mattison. I’d move him for a 4th round pick for sure.

But, a 4th rounder works for sure. If not that alone, a 6th and him for a 4th. Teams need to package more often....
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2022 Author Posted August 29, 2022 McGill and Bisi on injured lists of some kind....not released.

Bisi tore his ACL so he's out for the year. McGill is week to week with an ankle injury and will likely be released off the IR in an injury settlement within the next month.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2022 Posted August 30, 2022 Not surprised. The new regime gave him a fair chance this preseason but he’s still a long, long way from being serviceable. I’m not sure he’ll be claimed and we stash him on the practice squad.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted August 30, 2022 Posted August 30, 2022 I'm not upset cutting bait with Mond. Unless it's to find room for Mannion who has even less reason to be on a 53-man roster.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted August 30, 2022 Posted August 30, 2022 Also, a lot of usable RBs are starting to float around. None look as good as Mattison, but if the Vikings can improve the center position this year or get a decent pick next year, I'd be fine moving him then picking up a Kenyon Drake or Phillip Lindsey as insurance. Also, if the Vikings are willing to part with Mattison, I kind of think it means they really like what they see in either Nwangwu or Chandler.

I was thinking about this yesterday. KOC probably empathizes Mannion’s position because he was very similar to him during his playing days. He may be having further conversations to bring him onto the coaching staff vs. outright cutting him. If Mannion wants to get into coaching, bring him on board and create a made up title so he can be Kirk’s study buddy during the week.
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2022 Posted August 30, 2022 So far, 3 of the 4 3rd rounders from 2021 have been cut (Mond, Chazz Surratt, Wyatt Davis) along with 2021 4th rounder Janarious Robinson. Oof! At least Darrisaw looks like a above average LT in the making and we did find Nwangwu and Bynum in the 4th round, but Spielman's quantity over quality approach did not work out as intended. I am intrigued to see if any of them get claimed on waivers - I am on the record predicting that Mond will be claimed.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2022 Posted August 30, 2022 Mannion is gone. It’s quite clear the new regime does not like Spielman’s last draft class.

That said, hard to complain about the Davis pouch at the time, but the others? Ugh.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2022 Posted August 30, 2022 A majority of these guys will make it to the PS, but still. It’s pretty obvious why Rick had to go.

Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2022 Posted August 30, 2022 Today’s head scratcher. Cutting Armon Watts and trading for Ross Blacklock on the Texans. I’m not sure that’s an upgrade at all.
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2022 Posted August 30, 2022 Armon Watts was cut, which is a big surprise. He notched 5 sacks last year and looks like a solid interior pass rusher, but he's a better fit in a 4-3 defense. I guess he wasn't worth anything on the market, but he's a guarantee to be claimed on waivers. Jonathan Bullard is now a starter, or perhaps they plan to sign Suh.

He is a better fit in the 3-4 system but hasn't played as well as Watts has up to this point.

Yeah, Watts was the only of the starting DL that seemed to have any potential. I remember having Blacklock on my radar in during the draft two years ago two, I had no clue he had done next to nothing. Still, this seems like one of those moves that looks terrible right now, but could end up being one everyone high-fives about come December. Maybe a system swap out will work out well.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted August 30, 2022 Posted August 30, 2022 Also, I keep refreshing PFT to see when the Vikings will be picking up a new center and I keep being disappointed. Any minute now, right?
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2022 Posted August 30, 2022 How in the world did Troy Dye make the team? Looks like they’re gathering up as much cap room as they can… Maybe a potential big signing like Suh?

Any minute now, right? I haven't seen any substantiated rumors, it's mostly fans who are drumming up talk about adding a center. They've given Bradbury zero competition and they're committed to starting him all through 2022. The backup center Schlottman is not going to push him (he's somehow been worse in pass protection when he's had to start games). 3 hours ago, Vanimal46 said: How in the world did Troy Dye make the team? I was surprised since Blake Lynch started several games over Dye last year and graded acceptably, while when Dye played in 2020 he was a disaster. So it's got to be special teams, I imagine. Hopefully Asamoah is the primary backup at LB.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2022 Posted August 31, 2022 Mond is now on the Browns practice squad. Mannion on the Seahawks practice squad. And we just traded for WR Jalen Reager.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted August 31, 2022 Posted August 31, 2022 The Eagles almost cut Reagor I'm surprised a 4th/5th was necessary. What is he going to be the #6 wideout? Oh well, it's not a big draft pick. Reagor looks like a bust to me but I guess I'd rather roll the dice on an upside guy than go the Dede Westbrook/Aldrick Robinson route again.
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2022 Posted August 31, 2022 I like the Reagor pick up. I know he's a been labeled a bust but he's young and had a cruddy QB. He had talent to be drafted in the first round. And Viking 3rd receivers have been just as bad or worse the last few years.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2022 Posted August 31, 2022 Ihmir Smith-Marsette was waived now that Reager is on the team. 7 out of the 11 picks in the 2021 draft not on the 53 man roster. Amazing.
