This topic may have been brought up already, but I don't see the thread.

Will there be a Twins 2020 season this year?

What are the most up to date details? Arizona? Florida? Away from families for 10 months?

I dunno man. I think I watched a documentary once called "The Best that Never Was" (about a football player) and that title keeps coming to mind when I think about the 2020 Twins.

The league's been creative with the AZ/FL/TX plans, but the players (and possibly more importantly, their wives/gfs) seem to be reluctant to embrace the idea. At this rate I think we'll get a half-season at most, and there's probably a 50/50 chance we get no season at all. That's just my gut feeling.

I can't see the NBA starting back up, or the NHL, and the NFL will be lucky to have a season.

I think the majority of us would be 100% behind any plan that the MLB and players accept. A summer without baseball is pretty depressing.

Hope for season this year, resume spring training for a few weeks in late May, June. Then have games in home stadiums without fans, do screenings and social distancing as able.

In some ways I would look at the aircraft carrier. Lots of men (and women) who got the virus. Because of age and health, weren't hit all that hard. The big thing is what happens if it hits a team en masse in a short period of time.

Also, how much isolation do you have from family for the entire season. That could be asking a lot.

Testing is important.

They fly charter, so that is fine. No one has spoke about what it is like to be in hotels. Do you use the facilities (restauntas, pools, workout, office) or jsut stay in the room and at the stadium.

Bigger concern is support staff, and any aging population (coaches and such).

If you need fans, the issues are sanitation in rest rooms and common sirfaces (railings and seats and such). As well as the need for concession sales. I'm sure teams would be happy to play at partial capacity than no capacity.

But testing is still the key. Once positive, you may not need to be tested again for quite a while. But if negative, you will need constant testing of some sort.

But interaction with media will be less. Players won't be spitting as much.

I think most teams could play at home and at least half a season with limited playoffs. I also would hope minor league teams would be able to play at two leveles with increased rosters, but all the lower levels housed at minor league training camps. Development is a key.

But think you have to treat it as military or a touring Broadway show. No family for x-amount of time (but a paycheck) and very limited time interacting outside of your circle of teammates.

The owners, players & fans want it so I believe right now we are waiting for it be worked out w/ the players` union & state gov.s. to initiate the Arizona plan. & hopefully before too long the states which took the disease serious from the start could return to close to normal w/ all the precautions needed.

It`s a shame that some gov. officials did not take it serious & even encouraged their citizens to engage in public contact. Those areas where the vast majority of cases which put the rest of the nation at risk. Minnesota was least affected because of their correct response & should be rewarded w/ one of the 1st to be granted to have home games. Those that are high risk should be protected, no known cases should allowed in nursing homes. My mom is in a nursing home & she misses her Twins. America needs baseball to lift it`s spirit. If there is no 2020 season, it will be a regrettable tragedy for baseball especially for MN

Tragedy might be a bit of an overstatement, but a disappointment for sure. The Twins were in position to be one of the best offensive teams ever.

There seems to be only lukewarm support from the players, at best. Yes, a lot of it is money. But no one is going to want to spend 4 months isolated from the rest of the world, their families.

The only ones who stand to lose from not playing at all are the owners. Any MLB player who has played at least half a season should have enough cash to simply wait it out. Yet, the owners are the ones demanding salary concessions for playing a partial season without fans.

That’s never going to happen. From the players’ perspective, they should get more for having to be isolated. And that’s not going to happen either.

Going out on a limb here and saying yes, there will be a 2020 season.  Will even put a starting date on it.  Spring Training-2 will begin the Friday before Memorial Day with opening day Monday, June 22.  The Twins will begin their season at home against the Milwaukee Brewers in the revised Central League.  The only fans at the game will be players wives and immediate family...who will be regularly tested for COVID-19 as will all the players.  The season will be 108 games long, playing 12 games against each of their Central Division rivals with no games against teams from the other divisions/leagues.  God willing and COVID-19 cooperating, a limited number of fans will begin seeing games by mid-August.

That's my prediction.  Doubt I will be correct, but really hoping it is close.  The biggest question remaining is whether there will be robo umps for calling balls and strikes?

I still support the Arizona Plan (I believe to be the most equitable) to start with, where the season should start earlier & finishes earlier. All games would be played as early as possible in AZ until In the states where people were responsible & low infestation be allowed to start their home games in their home stadiums & have a gradual increase of attendance & eventually everything will return near normal. The recent option stated above where we wait until everyone is ready to start the season in their home stadiums furthers penalize the responsible states especially MN which the important late home games would be played in neutral stadiums. I also support more games played w/ more double-headers. I`m sure players like everyone are concerned about all the information that is thrown out there but if they are not crazy about playing they are in the wrong vocation
